Double Jack?

Sorry if this isn't in the right place.

I understand how single Smithy and triple gear work with BM, you're guaranteed to never collide. But double jack? Is it that if you draw both jacks in the same hand you can trash one of them?  :P

one just happens to want two jacks, that's the tried-and-true best way to do bm with jack of all trades; it has nothing to do with drawing them together. same with smithy, even, in fact i'm pretty sure it has been demonstrated that you want to get a  third later in the game if the opportunity comes.

BM with two Smithies is also better than BM with just one.

They're unlikely to collide, and if they don't, the turn you see your Smithy will almost always be a Gold/Province/Duchy buy. And with no trashing, your deck will be thick enough that they're unlikely to collide

You get the 2nd Jack early because it's very unlikely you'll draw the 2nd Jack dead. With no other actions, Jack only draws 1 card and you're gaining extra Silvers into your deck, making collisions rare.

In contrast, you usually don't pick up the 2nd Smithy until later, because if you buy it too early they'll collide too often. A rough rule of thumb is 1 Smithy per 8 cards in your deck or generally 1 action drawing N cards per 5 + N cards in your deck. Obviously this rule of thumb stops working with engines, or when you mix non-terminals into your deck.

Odds are you can do something better than double Jack anyways. Jack + <something> BM is usually better than Jack BM, and sometimes you can get a semi-engine/Good Stuff deck with Jack on the board.

Collision isn't the end of the world, and people fear it far too much. Double Jack only really has a decent risk of collision early on, and later there's so many Silvers as buffer that you have nothing to worry about anyway.

Jack also has the deck inspection thing which helps limit collision a tiny bit.

i thought i read that one jack + 1-2 big terminal draw cards is better than double jack unless there's a handsize attack to worry about

think this was sim results posted in a random thread i don't remember now

I actually don't think there was a time that would have made people go nuts. People cared a lot about sim results, but they didn't follow them blindly.

They were good at discovering openings like Young Witch/Tunnel though. Wonder if that still passes the cut today...

Jack + <something> BM is usually better than Jack BM

I would still argue that Counterfeit is the best <something>
