I'd suppose so, just like all the other "or" clauses in Dominion.

It wouldn't do much when played that way, but I can see the edge-cases where it could create accountability problems.

The wording here is identical to Raze, and Raze has been ruled that you can always make either choice.

"You may make either choice — trash the played card or trash a card from your hand — even if the played card is not in play anymore (e.g. from playing it twice with Throne Room) or you have no cards in your hand. You won't look at any cards if the choice you made causes you to not trash a card."

Yes. I guess it should say "you may" to keep you honest.

Secret History Tidbit:

The very first version in my prototype just had the "trash another Castle from your hand" part, but it became apparent pretty quickly that it needed the Feast option for all the times that it didn't collide (a.k.a. most of the time). So that ability got added before I handed it over to Donald.
