In this game I play straight Rebuild.
My opponent plays an interesting strategy I wouldn't have expected. With rogues, he take back the duchies I trashed from Rebuild, rush nobles and buy (probably too late) silk roads. I manage to end the game quickly but my opponent could have won if the game lasted a few turns more.
Do you think his strategy is viable ?

Hardly so. Rebuild is a way to go here. Rogue is a very good support: buy one on your third five, DON'T buy Estates, go for upgrading Duchies to Provinces faster than usual.

At least, I would have played it like that.

Is there ever an interesting rebuild game? Graverobber/Rogue just makes losing the Duchy split not a real thing. He/she was behind, so getting Silk Roads was just desperation. I don't know, that play he did seems pretty awful. I'm probably wrong though, the game score was kind of close.

Yes. Most of the time when Rebuild is on the board.

Rebuild games are about optimizing and tweaking a dominant strategy, not so much about inventing new strategies.

i had a legit interesting rebuild game a month ago or so

it was basically rebuild vs. an engine that couldn't do much besides play 64378 knights and maaaaayyyyybe buy a province.  i did rebuild and just barely beat the engine, but i was lucky and imagine the engine should win in the hands of a more top-level player
