If you find it difficult to compare Events with cards because Events are one-time things, shouldn't it be similarly difficult to compare Embargo with other $2s, or IGG with other $5s?  Comparing overpay cards seems even worse to me, since you usually pay more than what you do for other cards at the same "cost".

here's another thing: you have an enchantress and a workshop in hand, but only one action. that is close to the same decision as expedition v smithy, and you make it all the time with no issue.

Expedition and Smithy don't have the same cost.  We've come full circle from the "Warehouse is strictly better than Cellar" discussion.
