Multi Dominion

I host a regular game night, tonight we had seven people who wanted to play Dominion. Although others in the group own various portions of the game, they of course did not bring their sets because they know that I own all the expansions and promos.

We ended up choosing two kingdoms at random with no overlap. Seven people seated around one table, three to the left of me, three to the right. I got to play in both games. I know not everyone likes 4 player dominion, but I found this to be a lot of fun. I ended up the victor in one of the games and second place by a point in the other...

Full disclaimer: I was the one at the table with the most experience

Anyone else ever try doing anything like this?

So you were in both games simultaneously? I guess as long as you haven't got Possessions popping off in both games, it doesn't sound that difficult to keep track of, but I don't think I'd like my attention being divided like that.

Still, as long as you enjoyed it!

Hah, I did that blindfolded and without breakfast!

Or am I confusing that with Gauntlet of Fools?

Back when I played Twilight Struggle competitively, I used to play simultaneous games. Sadly I don't believe this is easily possible on the Dominion Online client. Maybe a feature on the 2017 client?  :P

Helps ensure you always have a junk card to pass with Masquerade!

once in Goko, maybe two yeras ago, I caught a glitch, and suddenly took parts in two games simultaneously. It was like cards in the kingdom changed every turn. But the problem was that the kingdom was very much the same, so me head really exploded. I resigned both. It's hard online, believe me.

Maybe split screen will solve the problem

I tried this on isotropic and it just didn't work, at least not without playing really badly. You would roll two engine kingdoms and the turns would take too long that you'd be forcing one of your opponents to wait for no reason.

That's what impressed me with how Petrovic seemed to pull it off: timing. I think this variant has more potential IRL: if you're just sitting around with friends, shooting the shit, maybe they won't be so annoyed when their turns have consisted of straight money grabs while the other game has had labs popping off everywhere.

Although maybe not, depending on the group...

Our casual ish gaming group often ends up with 5 players, which isn't a number many games work well with. We've never considered me playing two simultaneous Dominion games but one Dominion and one somewhat simpler game (Carcassonne, say) has definitely been mooted.
