KC/TR vs Goons

I have recently played a game on isotropic, with KC-Goons.
I got the 3x+Buy, 3x 2$ to spend, obviously only the first requested the opponent to discard, but at the buys, I got only 1x VP.

Is this because of the wording on the Goons " While this is in play, if you buy a card you get +1VP " ?
And physically there is only 1 Goons in play, the other two replica, created by the KC ( or one with TR ) ?

I am wondering if I see the point right, or this is a problem only on Isotropic ?  ( Hope, not as then KC/Goons would be terribly overpowering )

Anyone can confirm/deny with reasoning ?

Yes, your reasoning is correct. Isotropic is playing this correctly.

I can confirm this is how it works and the reasoning you gave is correct. There is a difference between the phrases 'played' and 'in play.' When you KC a Goons you play the goons 3 times, but only 1 Goons goes into play.

This is an important distinction elsewhere. For example, peddler's cost is reduced for action card in play. So KC/Goons would only count for 2 actions in play, even though you played four (KC and 3 Goons) and peddler's cost would only go down to $4. If you look at conspirator it says you get +1 card/action if it's at least the third action played that turn. So if you Throne Room a Conspirator, you play TR then the first conspirator and then the second conspirator. So the first play of conspirator doens't give +card/action but the second does, because it's the third action played.

Also a duration card from the previous turn was never played this turn, but still counts as in play.

Thanks for the confirmation ;)

Good that the Peddler had come out as well, I were not considering that until now.
During that play I used the Conspirator as well, but that got me no worries, somehow I used it naturally right ;) // Lookout + KC/Conspirator to draw up KC and 2 goons.. well my opponent's smile was not natural //

Another played vs in play situation:

If you TR a bridge, costs go down 2.
If you TR a highway, costs go down 1.

TR a Princess (prize), costs go down 2 (not 4).
