Tens10n, REDUX Game 1 (a Single Submission Game)
« on: April 26, 2016, 11:51:46 am »

There are 10 boxes. Box 1 is worth 1 point, Box 2 is worth 2 points, and so on up to Box 10, worth 10 points.

There are 10 players. Each player has 10 chits.

To join the game, post here and then send me a PM assigning your 10 chits to the 10 boxes. If you put the most chits in a box, you win that box and its points! If there is a tie for the highest number of chits, no one gets the box. (Note: If you don't post here and send a PM, you will not be signed up - I will take the first 10 who do both and submit a valid assignment.)

Whoever gets the most total points wins. In the case of a tie for total points: whoever wins the most boxes wins. If players are still tied, they rejoice in their shared victory!

Here is an example of the results:

The best reason to lynch Haddock is the meltdown we get to witness on the wagon runup. I mean, we should totally wagon him every day just for the lulz.

For anyone else, such a statement would be a scum tell.  For Hydrad, it's simply a tell that you're reading something from Hydrad.

I'll put 1 in every box. I could win almost all of them!

I think we all saw the sample game and thought "Wow, people weren't aggressive enough to go for box 10", then stopped and thought "wait a minute, everyone else is going to think that and put everything in 10", and then thought, "no, they're all going to think that, and go for box 9 again".

Anyway, I'm now realizing that it makes a lot more sense to just go all in on 10 rather than try to go for 11 points like I did.  I was thinking someone's probably going to get 10, so I need 11 points to beat that.  So I could go for 9 and 2 or 10 and 1.  But 10 and 1 doesn't make sense, because if someone's going to get 10 points, it's going to be from the 10 box, and either it's me and I don't need the extra point to win, or else it's not and I'm losing anyway.  I could have looked really awesome going for 9 and 2 except that Watno screwed over anyone going for the 2 box anyway...I'm not sure I get that, since the goal of the game is to maximize your chances of scoring more points than everyone else, not to score as many points as possible.

I'll note that I played too, not officially though putting down my submission before posting the thread. Had 5 in box 9. 1 in box 5 and 4 in box 6. Would have been good enough for second place.

I have used this game a couple of times as an ice breaker. It can work with any number of people. Generally I have used it with 7 or 8 and it works fine. You just change the number of Chits and boxes to the number of people. But I think 10 is probably the magic number.

It has to do with me not reading the rules properly. I thought the value of a box was the total amount of chips in there. I'm not sure if I thought that as well the last time I played. Sorry about that.

/in I'm putting all 10 on 10.

That seems like a terrible strategy.

I don't play Mafia games and even I knew this was a scumtell.

I think we all saw the sample game and thought "Wow, people weren't aggressive enough to go for box 10", then stopped and thought "wait a minute, everyone else is going to think that and put everything in 10", and then thought, "no, they're all going to think that, and go for box 9 again".

Yeah, I assumed my play was a Prisoner's Dilemma sort of problem, multiplied by ten.  A single other person goes after it, and the strategy dies... so it was basically an 11% shot that everyone else would believe it could never work.

My reasoning:

I want to put most of my chits on 10.

If someone else puts 10, I lose no matter what.
Unlikely for anyone else to put 9, there, so should be safe with 9.
If I win 10, I think the most likely way to lose is if someone gets two of 1, 2, 8, 9. So I put one on 2 to block.

The post was just for fun, didn't expect it to have much of an effect.
