My fastest win so far ...

So, I just played the following on Iso:
http://dominion.isotropic.org/gamelog/201201/21/game-20120121-140751-7321dd6f.html

There were 4 provinces gone by turn 9, 3 in my deck, 1 in the trash.

There's a significant amount of luck here, I'm sure ... but it was rather cool to see how fast Salvager and Apprentice could take off (with help from Hoard).

11 turns is quite fast, but I think any efficient card with good players produces speeds in the same ballpark. Of course, bad players can speed up games too.

I recently played a game where both players dashed for Governor, but he used it for +cards consistently and I used it for +gold.

I think the game ended inside of 10 turns with an explosion of golds remodelled to provinces in my last turn, putting me 5:3 up.

Then there's Ironworks/Gardens games if both players open Ironworks... They're pretty damn fast too.

Ironworks/Gardens is probably the fastest game that you'll see commonly, averaging less than 11 turns (less than 8 in a 4-player game). Governor/Chapel also seems crazy fast if both players open that (but I can't simulate that)

(Might be a nice puzzle to find the slowest board where both players go for optimal strategy.)

Maybe something like:

Transmute
Vineyard
Secret Chamber
Pearl Diver
Scheme
Scout
Sea Hag
Feast
Saboteur
Possession

With the optimal strategy being something like Hag/Money. Maybe Ghost Ship makes this even slower, but I don't know.

I think protracted ambassador wars will produce the slowest optimal game.

I'm almost sure that Ghost Ship would force a slower game in almost any Kingdom... unless the best strategy is just to completely ignore it.

A key is no trashing, so that the same bad cards get sent back and forth over and over.

The other edge case of ridiculously long games with optimal play are ones with, say, Farming Village, Golem, Chapel, and Possession. This sort of game results in you playing your opponent's hand more often than you play your own. Both players trim down to 0 treasure and the game can go on indefinitely.

Embargo can be potentially a great counter for BM strategies.

Chapel + pirate ship will produce games so slow that they will never finish.
