wwwwwWHAT

IS YOUR QUEST

-Which discard option is best?
-How often is this useful in a Kingdom?
-How does this compare to the other "free" Events?

Add two useless stopcards to add another, slightly less useless stopcard? And that costs a buy? You haven't convinced me yet.

Get two Ambassadors. Ambassador everything. On collision use the other Ambassador to get a gold with this.

It might be worth it to pick up 2 cheap attacks in the opening and then just discard them for Golds, or play one if they collide. Having something like 2 Oracles and 2 Golds at turn 5 seems like pretty strong BM.

I think it's a great addition to terminal draw-bm. If the drawer is Margrave, you're in for a good time.
Otherwise, it's a good way to gain a ok card that doesn't fit in many decks, so it's really a question of how good gold is in each single game.
The two-curse option is nice, but I don't see it obsoleting cursers. Not even near.

I can see the 6-card option being useful in pretty much any BM situation.  Assuming no attacks, you would be guaranteed a Gold or Province every turn you play a Smithy variant.

You could also buy 2 Golds and achieve a better result. Maybe it can work as an accelerator when you add in payload to your deckdrawing engine (like how you sometimes pick up Hoard and Explorer), but I'm not convinced. Honestly this sounds worse than both Hoard and Explorer, which aren't really strong cards.

I think Worker's Village, and only Worker's Village, generates enough excess buys that the double curse thing could be good.  And only with terminal draw.  And probably needs the stipulation that nothing else exciting is in the kingdom.  Then it's probably ok.

Seeking out Curses to get Golds is stupid.

This event is nice in a lot of situations, most of which aren't the traditional super thin draw your deck engine games. In BM or hybrid games, there's lots of times you'll use Quest to gain Gold and you can use it to basically skip Silver completely. In slogs, Quest basically makes the game take less of a stupidly long time to resolve as you can build economy even with most crap hands. I could also see this as a way to gain Apprentice fuel in a non-thin engine game, or a way to deal with double junker / double handsize openings. Even discarding an Urchin with it in a Mercenary game?

i wonder if this makes you want terminal draw in those kinds of money decks where you normally want a bunch of good non-drawing terminals...

i think quest is yucky

like, it's an ambassador game, we both were gonna open two ambassadors anyway and now we are gonna do the same thing we were gonna do but now there are intermittently some golds in our decks which is yucky. the golds get in the way of sending stuff around and so we are inhibited from making progress that kinda barely even happens anyway. and then the target $6 is border village/mountebank and so eventually we get to a point where we are just made out of golds and garbage and we push face first into provinces in much the same way that a cat will push into a leg because he wants to acknowledge the leg but also wants to pass it somehow, except he hasn't determined whether to go on the right side or left side of the leg and so he is just giving me some newtons.

quest is a way for games with attacks, curses, and hands that end up with 6 cards and nothing better to do to just go in some direction, but gold seems to be one of the less interesting ones, with a few exceptions.

If you have extra buys you can use this to evade Haunted Woods' attack.

Nobody ever said you need to buy Quest every time.  Just skip it if that's best for you.  But even in Ambassador wars, you usually end up needing to have >=$5 eventually.  In which case, maybe you buy 2 silvers during the war, in hopes of spiking $5 for that Bazaar or Minion or whatever, then maybe eventually you give the Silvers back.  Quest gives you the option of skipping those Silvers and getting to $5 earlier than you would otherwise.  And of course you don't need to get more Golds if you don't want to.  So ya too much of anything can be a bad thing, but just enough of said things is, well, just enough of it.

i think schadd just hates the principle of the card, i.e. getting gold instead of something more interesting

I'm guessing it'll be pretty nice in alt-VP games with weak draw, like a Silk Roads game with Oracle or something.

This card is okay, but one of the weakest events for sure. Gold isn't terrible, but it's not great either

Gold. Why do people complain about Gold? They can't all be the best $6 card ever.

...
...
i just generally don't like gold as a card, as a different person sort of predicted, and it feels like there aren't that many situations where you get one gold and continue to be able to get golds but choose not to. and i haven't played out any quest+amb games but the impression i get is, you have the choice to go for a mediocre engine like inn/catacombs/merchant guild but there's also golds and gold is an okay card. that situation might be on my mind because it's a recurring nightmare that i have
but i dunno. maybe i like silver less

I played a game yesterday where I bought quest every turn, discarding a familiar after curses ran out to use them as remodel targets. Unsurprisingly, the board had no other decent payload whatsoever and was overall not very strong.

It's kind of ok in these situations, altough it's obviously stronger in slogs. I'd say discarding an attack or curses are the stronger options, since dicarding six cards mean you have draw, which means your deck probably does not do much worse than gold, most likely.
