Well, it's nothing new or anything, but that last turn was pretty fun and was something I hadn't done before.  I played a lot of games with this person where we both went for totally different strategies that were pretty equal, which was a lot of fun.

Apprentice,rats,Herald, Guild seems much better than the Herald great Hall thing your opponent did.

Herald doesn't seem very good here, without trashing its unreliable lab, and with apprentice its better to get rats and herald stack will quickly turn into rat stack with forced play. You want only few heralds in unlucky 4 hands, otherwise you want play merchant guilds and buy copper to turn into rats that you use for apprentice draw, that gets you five provinces in 15 turns like in this game

Herald is risky as hell because of Rats trashing. I would do Rats / Apprentice / payload, probably multiple Merchant Guilds and a few Gold you play every turn until you win.
