Why doesn't the rush section discuss Vineyards rushes?

Also you probably are an expert if you buy two bureaucrats early.

I would like to see a sort of taxonomy / canon of deck types you should be familiar with too, but I'm not sure the OP's division is so useful. Attacks must usually play a part in both money/terminal-based decks and more action-oriented decks, so distinguishing attack decks as a top-level thing I'm not so sure about. I think the most important distinction in Dominion (and thus the one that should be at the top of the hierarchy) is between those decks that try to play more than one action per turn, and those that don't. Here's my proposal:

* Treasure-terminal decks
-* Big Money-type decks (e.g Big Money Wharf, Big Money Envoy, Big Money Masquerade)
--* Alternate treasure decks (Fool's gold, etc.)
--* Money+trashing decks (e.g Golden deck)
-* Terminal-based rushes (e.g IGG/Duchy, Horse Traders/Duke, Workshop/Gardens)

* Action-based decks
-* Megaturn engines (e.g Horn of Plenty, KC/Bridge, Governor, Native Village/Nomad Camp/Coppersmith ;)
-* Full draw engines
--* Alchemist-based
--* Hunting party-based
--* Scrying pool-based
--* village&draw-based
-* Steady engines (either dig through whole deck but not in play at same time, or full draw but not every turn)
--* Minion-based
--* Conspirator-based
--* Tactician-based
---* Single tactician
---* Double tactician
-* Rush engines (Ironworks+gardens/islands/Silk roads)

Here is my proposed classification:

-mean-value decks
=> try to get the best average turn (big money, HT/duke, plain attack decks without engines).

-near-deterministic decks
=> try to end up with nearly exactly the same playmat every turn (golden deck, HP, scrying pool, double tact, masq-pin, torturer chain...).

-spike decks
=> try to take advantage of unlikely(for any given single turn) but extreme events (single tact+coppersmith/bank, mega turn...).

All three correspond to secondary objectives that players follow in order to win the game. These mostly coincide with the usual taxonomy, but differ in some important cases:

Chancellor/stash is a near-deterministic deck, hence not classified together with BM/envoy
Golden deck is also a near-deterministic deck.
A BM variant that plays non-terminals (markets, say) would be classified together with BM/envoy.
Megaturn decks and other 'unstable' decks would be separate from engines.

It might not be as easy to classify decks within those archetypes, because you have to sit back and think rather than just look at the deck list, but I think it corresponds more to a fundamental truth behind the mechanics of the game. The first objective in the game is to manage randomness. Once that is done, people green and attempt to win.  All three archetypes correspond to a way to manage the inherent randomness of the game. I wrote an article earlier in the year where these ideas were presented (bundled up with other random thoughts of mine).

Sorry for being a thread necromancer, but when I saw what you said about Turbo Remodel, I had to try it for myself, and guess what? I won 3 out of 3 times against the isotropic bot! ... on a very specific setup ... and it was very close. But still! :P

Quote
5d) The Trasher

The Trasher just realized that Chapel is awesome, and by logical extension, he should chapel everything. He Chapels coppers and estates while buying Silver, he Chapels Silver when buying Gold, runs out of steam after 3 Provinces, and loses to Big Money. This is a trap even experienced players sometimes fall for - just this morning I realized I'd trashed down to only 1 silver and had to embarrassedly buy a copper.

Man experienced players sucked back in the day.
