Colliding Fool's Gold

You buy nothing but Fool's Gold when you have $2 or more. What is the most number of turns that it takes before you have two Fool's Gold in hand? (i.e., you have the worst possible shuffle luck)

Pretty sure it's turn 7.

You will always have $2 because you have at most 3 Estates/Shelters and all your treasures give $1. On the second shuffle of the game after turn 4, your deck has 4 Fool's Gold in 14 cards. You'll draw 3 hands this shuffle, so one of those hands must have 2 Fool's Golds. (It doesn't matter whether FG misses the reshuffle or not.) The worst case is the last hand of the 3rd shuffle which is turn 7.

Could you improve this using borrow unnecessarily?

Buying Borrow is buying something other than Fool's Gold, though.

Have your opponents screw you over with attacks! They can use Knights/Rogue/Thief/Noble Brigand/Spy to get the Fool's Gold off the top of your deck. They can buy IGG. Think outside the box, guys!

I'm pretty sure that Thief/Noble Brigand can make it impossible to collide FG, especially if there's more than one opponent.  Maybe also with the others.

Then there's your answer! We could also have your opponents rush Fool's Gold as well then trash them with Pirate Ship, so that you will never see two Fool's Gold even though you bought as many as you could.

New puzzle: Suppose you opponent only buys bridge trolls?

Note that you can buy whatever you want when you have 0-1 coins.

Then you curl up and die. And you borrow money. Lots and lots of money.

My guess, though I'm not sure, is that you still must collide eventually. Oh, another rule will be that you can't gain any cards costing 2 or more besides Fool's gold, like something with Alms. Then I think you can last somewhere from 10 to 20 turns, not sure but I doubt it's forever. Well, I went and thought about it, and I think you can barely survive forever. Here's a very rough sketch.

First shuffle double FG, opponent buys bridge troll.
T3 opponent plays and buys bridge troll, you buy curse
T4 opponent cannot afford bridge troll, you buy FG with 5 copper
T5 opponent plays bridge troll for the rest of the game (he can buy two more these next two turns then shuffle into one on T7).  You have copper FG (shuffle) 2 copper, curse, buy FG
T6 buy curse with FG, copper, 3E
T7 You have FG, 3 copper (shuffle) copper, buy FG
T8 You have FG, copper, 3E - save estate, borrow, buy curse
T9 You have FG, copper, 2 curse - save curse, borrow, buy curse
T10 You have FG, copper (shuffle), 3 curse (one saved) - save curse, borrow, buy curse
T11 You have FG, copper, curse, estate - same
T12 You have FG, copper, 2E - same
T13 You have FG, 3 Copper, buy FG
T14 You have FG, copper (shuffle)... now you have been getting twice as many dead cards as FG, so you can keep goong forever.[\spoiler]

I'm late to the party, but if you're P6 in a 6P game you can never even have the chance to buy more than one FG. Serves you right for playing a 6P game.

I suppose the next variant here is: you buy nothing but Treasure Maps (on $3 or below, you buy nothing). What's the last possible turn where you have two in hand?

(Now tell newbies the answer so they realize how bad of an idea this is).

After opening Treasure Map/Nothing on turns 1 and 2, you aren't guaranteed to even hit $4 again until turn 11. One you have your second Treasure Map, I am pretty sure you can infinitely draw $3 and never collide the Maps.
