Thread to discuss the counting thread

I've open this to keep the other thread clean, and just in case you really wanted to post something there but can't anymore.

Why was this moved to general discussion? It's clearly a forum game.  Sorry to be an uptight, but I don't post my threads about Innovation in GD.

I guess you could argue it's not a game because no one who wins? It's such a boring exercise that everyone loses..

Actually, this started because people wanted to know how many active users f.ds has. Gamificating (?) the question makes it ever so slightly more probable that people will participate.

tl;dr : for SCIENCE!

I think the counting thread needs a [serious] tag.

I didn't take it to be a game. It's just light-hearted babble, much like the Random thread.

Of course, some people turned it into a game because some people can't just post a number as a simple decimal.

My post was on topic.  If you graph the consanant-vowel patterns and then decrypt, you will see that I was actually counting.

It's clearly not "Dominion General Discussion", which is where it was originally posted. And once you misplace a thread that poorly, you don't get a vote where it ends up. :p

35, but you can just add 1 to the reply count to get a number...

Man I didn't even read your opening post.
This is of course another reason to avoid having threads that try to strictly control content.

We could just keep track of who's posted twice in this thread so that our final count will be correct in the end.

Also, i predict a lame "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" reference.

Way to drop the ball on references.

Man, I can't believe you posted twice and I didn't even notice : /

You'd think that people on a Dominion Forum would be better at following precise instructions presented in the form of short snippets of text.

I just want to thank pacovf for fighting the good fight against so many thankless people invading his counting thread.  It is just so inspiring.  The unwavering decision to count....I mean....not many people have that kind of dedication these days.
