Puzzle: Infinite-damage combos
« on: October 12, 2015, 08:46:22 pm »

A series of puzzles.

1) You have a 10-card hand containing any collectible cards you like. The board is empty, as is your opponent's hand and both decks. Deal an arbitrarily large amount of damage to your opponent. (Assume they have as much armor/life as necessary.)

2) Same as (1), but without using Emperor Thaurissan beforehand.

3) Same as (2), but without using Echo of Medivh.

4) Same as (3), but your opponent's face is untargetable, i.e. you may not cast spells at it or attack.

5) Same as (4), but you start with 4 mana and no Innervates.

6) Same as (3), but you can only damage your opponent by attacking their face.

7) Same as (6), but your opponent has 1 health, so you can only attack once.

Eight) Same as (6), but you may only attack with minions with 1 attack. Edit: When the Warsong Commander nerf is released, this will no longer be possible, as far as I know.

Edit:

9) Each of the above, but your opponent no longer necessarily has an empty hand, and could have any cards. Alternatively, if your solutions already work with this condition, figure out why I put it here.

10) Same as (9), but your starting hand may contain no more than two copies of each card.

11) (Extra hard bonus problem) Same as (4) + (9), but your starting hand may contain no more than one copy of each card.

Solutions here: http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=14016.msg531200#msg531200

Does it have to be possible to actually get the collectible cards in your hand due to the previous events of the game? For instance, can I have both Perdition's Blade and Stoneforged Axe in hand?

Playing as Mage to solve 1.

Your hand:
Sorcerer's Apprentice x 2
Antonidas
Echo of Medivh
(6 other cards that don't matter, but aren't Thaurissian because he was already played sometime earlier)

Thaurissian has been played and was out for at least 2 turns while you had the above cards in hand. (Sorc Apps should be free, Antonidas should be 5 or less (but he could be 6), Echo should be 2 or less (but will be free when you play it).

Cast
Sorc Apprentice
Sorc Apprentice
Antonidas
Echo (getting a Fireball, Sorc Apprentice x 2 and Antonidas in hand)
Sorc Apprentice (2 mana)
Sorc Apprentice (2 mana)
Fireballs forever

That's the simplest solution I know of, but it only solves 1, 2-8 still up in the air.

I thought Mind Blast would be classier, but yeah.
No, wait, they both don't work, restrictions 6 and 7 apply to 8

1 2 3 ->

4 Sorc Apprentices, Antonidas, Ancestral's call.

Play all 4 sorc's, than Ancestrall call (it cost 0 now) Put in Anotonidas. Fireball till death.

Doesn't 8 contradict 7. (if they start with 1 hp, there's no need to reduce them to 1 hp?)

You have to use Rockbiter Weapon

That doesn't work either because they could have, say, 4 life.

Moonfire + Inner Fire works.

EDIT: Flash Heal is more elegant.

Not sure if works, but:

Commanding Shout + Bouncing Blade is the idea.

Sovles 1,2,3,4 if you use Axe Flinger

and 1,2,3,6,7 if you use Gah'zrilla or Gurubashi

Problem is that Bouncing Blades has hard-limit of like 50 bounces.

Assume all random effects go as poorly as possible. Note that your deck is empty, so drawing effects don't matter anyway.

Note: I screwed up the wording on #8, sorry about that. Try it now.

@pops, I forgot about the Mind Vision solution, derp. :P Try redoing everything with the modification that all strategies should work regardless of what cards the opponent has in hand; I'm pretty sure all the parts should still be doable, though I may need to think and make sure there isn't some super edge case that could happen.

@Grujah Bouncing Blade has a hard limit of 80 bounces, and will also stop if no minion in play is capable of taking damage.

Cheat solution:

You had arbitrary large number of Dreadsteeds die during the game.
Summon Bolver, cast Charge on him.

True. You can also have played an arbitrary large number of Mistcallers during the game and drawn a Stonetusk Boar this turn.

5] 3 preparation, 3 ancestral call -> sorcerer's apprentice, flamwaker, cho-> spam mind vision   needs 3 manager, and only 1 if you're lucky.
You guarantee it for 2 if you play sorcerer's apprentice manually

I added some "bonus" conditions to cover up my mistakes. :P Also, the extra-hard (11), which I only just realized was possible.

Sorceror's Apprentice (Eight)
Sorceror's Apprentice (6)
Ancestral Spirit (6)
Ancestral Spirit (6)
Reincarnate (6)
Ancestor's Call > Flamewaker / Archmage Antonidas (6)
Ancestor's Call > Archmage Antonidas / Flamewaker (6)

Ah, wasn't sure if it actually worked like that. Thanks.

In other news, puzzle (Eight) will soon be impossible due to the Warsong Commander nerf. It is a sad day for Hearthstone puzzle enthusiasts.

I added solutions for 1-5 here, in case you guys didn't see.

5] 3 preparation, 3 ancestral call -> sorcerer's apprentice, flamwaker, cho-> spam mind vision   needs 3 manager, and only 1 if you're lucky.
You guarantee it for 2 if you play sorcerer's apprentice manually

This doesn't actually work unless you get lucky, because if you don't get Lorewalker Cho last, then he'll put the Preparation and Ancestor's Call into the opponent's hand, where they can be taken by Mind Vision. You can do it guaranteed for 5 mana, by playing the Apprentice and Flamewaker by hand.

Here's the solution for #11, which again is no pre-turn effects, no Echo of Medivh, opponent face untargetable, opponent has arbitrary cards in hand, nerfed Warsong Commander, and you have at most one copy of each card in hand:

Sorceror's Apprentice (8 mana left)
Ancestral Spirit (7)
Faceless Manipulator (2)
Feign Death (2)

At this point, you have 4 Sorceror's Apprentices in play.

Innervate (4)
Flamewaker (1)
Ancestor's Call -> Archmage Antonidas (1)
Commanding Shout (1)
Fireball -> Archmage Antonidas (1)
Fireball -> Archmage Antonidas (1)
Fireball -> Archmage Antonidas (1)
etc.

Ancestor's Call / 0% RNG contingencies:
If Ancestor's Call summons Mal'ganis (or any other targetable non-deathrattle minion) for your opponent, you can just Fireball it before Fireballing your own minion.
If it summons Dreadsteed, the Flamewaker will still hit your opponent for 1 every time.
If it summons a Sneed's Old Shredder that repeatedly summons Sneed's Old Shredders, then you can Fireball the Shredder repeatedly and the Flamewaker will still hit your opponent for 1 every time.

If it summons a Sylvanas... that may actually be a real issue. Fortunately the solution uses only 9 cards, so you can throw in a Silence too.
If it summons a Majordomo, then technically you can only do 9 damage to your opponent's face in the worst case, so you need Silence here too.
