Game Altering Hands

I think we should have a thread for hands that totally alter the rest of the game. Its fun to see the sick chains people pull off that maybe dont deserve their own thread. Mods if you feel like this thread is what the whole forum is for then feel free to lock it up!

So maybe the hand ends the game or maybe its a soul crushing blow to your opponent (or you). Maybe its a bonehead move that cripples you when you should have won. Maybe you just pulled off the sickest KC+Bridge combo ever.

Whether you wanna whine/brag/make fun of yourself lets post some hands that define the rest of the game (or ends it). :)

I offer two: a solid tournament draw (im willing to bet someone has pulled all the treasures) and one ridiculous ending.

— Randal Graves's turn 11 —
   Randal Graves plays a Menagerie.
   ... revealing a Copper, a Tournament, a Province, and a Gold.
... drawing 3 cards and getting +1 action.

... Randal Graves reveals a Province.
... Randal Graves discards a Province and gains a Trusty Steed on the deck.
   ... drawing 1 card and getting +$1.
Randal Graves plays a Trusty Steed.
... drawing 2 cards and getting +2 actions.
Randal Graves plays a Ghost Ship.
   ... drawing 2 cards.
... mecha-shiva puts 2 cards back on the deck.
   Randal Graves plays a Tournament.
   ... getting +1 action.
... Randal Graves reveals a Province.
... Randal Graves discards a Province and gains a Followers on the deck.
   ... drawing 1 card and getting +$1.

   ... (Randal Graves reshuffles.)
... drawing 3 cards and getting +1 action.

   ... revealing a Province.
   ... discarding a Province.
   Randal Graves plays a Tournament.
   ... getting +1 action.
... Randal Graves reveals a Province.
... Randal Graves discards a Province and gains a Princess on the deck.
   ... drawing 1 card and getting +$1.
   Randal Graves plays a Followers.

   Randal Graves buys a Province.
   Randal Graves buys a Gold.
   (Randal Graves reshuffles.)
(Randal Graves draws: a Menagerie, a Followers, a Silver, a Tournament, and a Gold.

This was probably the best turn I've had in a tournament game (in terms of getting all the treasures) and Im rage retiring if an opponent does this to me  ::)

I once opened my turn by playing 5 Menageries in a row. All were successful. On the fifth play, I revealed a 12-card hand, all unique cards. No log though, this was a face-to-face game.

Do I see it right that you would have won if you bought a curse the last turn?

Yes, either that (for the highest score) or trash the duchy instead of the gold.

I don't think the game would have ended in that case.

It would - he bought nothing. Just trash the gold und buy that curse in addition to replace it as 15th card.

Yup, reyk is right. All I had to do was buy a curse or expand the duchy. I was in cruise control and didnt really think twice about trashing the gold, I mean expanding gold > duchy 99% of the time.

Nag was just as surprised as me and said he would have done the same thing.

Hah, that fairgrounds game from yesterday.

We both thought the isotropic point counter had glitched. I typed GG to acknowlegde the beating the exact moment I saw the Gold trash, knowing I was just 1 point ahead and the province would have me lose by 5.

IIRC, we stalled the penultimate Colony and then later the penultimate Province.

Hello altogether,

I'm new here, though already reading here for some time, so I don't know whether this qualifies for a game altering hand, since the game was pretty much over already, but it nevertheless surprised me a bit.
But, well, Cities, King's Courts and Bridges, you probably know what this means.

But, well, Cities, King's Courts and Bridges, you probably know what this means.

You've posted this in a very cautious and decent way - so I will give Theory's cautious words as an answer:

Quote from: Theory
Full disclosure, though: we omitted all the insane massive point turns, since that’s a whole ‘nother post, and once you’ve seen one King’s Court-Wharf-Bridge-extravaganza, you’ve mostly seen them all.  But don’t think we don’t think those are awesome!

So, yes - we know, what this means. But congrats anyway and welcome!

From a Sea Hag game that iomi and I played yesterday.  Lookout was on the board for some moderate trashing, but i was able to use native village, forge, and some shuffle luck to wipe out all the chaff in my hand on one turn and speed through to clear out the provinces:

Quote
Raine plays a Native Village.
   ... getting +2 actions.
... drawing a card and placing it on the Native Village mat.
   Raine plays a Native Village.
   ... getting +2 actions.
... picking up 9 cards from the Native Village mat.
   Raine plays a Wharf.
... drawing 2 cards and getting +1 buy.
   Raine plays a Forge.
... trashing a Native Village, a Sea Hag, 6 Coppers, and 4 Curses.
   ... gaining a Gold.

I can't find the log but, I once misclicked and opened Silver/Copper.  That's about as game altering as it gets.

I suppose turn 15 in this game fits the original request. http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20110617-064810-515ea6e3.html. Turn 17 is flashy too.

I hated being on the receiving end of that - the huge trash of all those coppers was actually really important in totally locking the game down as opposed to making it close.

http://councilroom.com/game?game_id=game-20110622-110617-ae54871d.html

Chapel, Bazaar, City, King's Court, Ambassador, Young Witch, Lighthouse

So we both open Chapel/Bazaar.

Game goes relatively as you would expect, we Chapel down, buy Bazaars and King's Courts, do some Ambassador battling and Young Witching.  Note that there are no +buys unless we 2-pile Cities.  The game gets a bit drawn out because we both make sure we stock up on KC instead of going for earlier Provinces.

I break out and start going provinces.  I open a 5-0 Province lead.

Turn 27, I'm up 5-2 provinces.  2 piles have been emptied, he has 2 cities.

(Elysium draws: 3 Provinces and 2 Bazaars.)

I pray for a KC but draw another Bazaar, and then an Ambassador, and another Province.  Great, I'll just Ambassador a province and end the game, but no, he has lighthouse.  I have to settle for an Estate.

Next hand (abridged):

Surprised no-one's posted a KC/Goons game yet. This turn altered the game in the sense that it ended it, with me the winner, having started the turn down 1 VP and gaining … er, 128 VPs …

Yes, a turn where you wind up with $32, 16 buys, and 6 Goons in play is likely to be a good one :-)

(Hell, I could've just bought a Bazaar and ten Curses and ended the game in victory …)
