Chapel is the best card at getting bad cards out of your deck as quickly as possible (pretty lame, but very true).
Doctor disagrees.
Doctor trashes 3 cards at once (which is the maximum). If you overpay for it, it's in a different price range. Chapel's low price also makes it super good.

Well, you said as quick as possible. Doctor can trash Turn1, Chapel at most at turn 2 with a few events. So Doctor is quicker :)
Then opening Farmland with a Baker token is fastest as well. Yay!

Nope, you woudln't have any more cards in hand!...

...Alright, I'll stop being unhelpful nowhopefully
Not if you also borrowed!

Leave it to F.DS to take a piece of actually good advice, twist it to mean something it didn't mean, and then discuss related edge cases, pulling this thread into a tangent completely unrelated to its original purpose.

<3 <3 <3
Oh come on, it's 100% worth it.

Also I truly think that doctor on average gets most of your bad cards out of your deck faster than chapel, especially if you open 4/3 or 5/2. The only trouble is that you probably don't have any economy or good cards in your deck, while chapel lets you do both.

...I'm not going to stop being unhelpful nowprobably. At least I made one constructive post first.

Another good advice:

No matter how long you think about an idea before posting, it'll going to be edge-cased.

I love it.

Doctor can only trash 2 cards turn 1 (without help). Mint can trash 5.

Oh I don't believe that for a second. With both Doctor and Chapel on the board, you can even have a 4/3 opening, I'm not touching Doctor with a 55-foot pole.

Yes I realize that's an awful generalization, but that's what this thread is about so it's OK. Please understand that I really only used that figure of speech so I could work in the 55 reference (though Chapel is better for early trashing than Doctor; that I'll stand by).

If you're buying a card not to improve your deck but because you've got a spare buy, you probably shouldn't.

I agree that chapel is the better card usually because it lets you actually buy things on your non-chapel turns. And, in retrospect that is consistent with what the original post said. However, I think Doctor will trash faster, that's all.

Don't try for an engine if there isn't a payload on the board that would beat Big Money.

When considering multiple strategies, go for the one that relies on luck the least.

Multiple Goons >>>>>>>>>>> Lone Goons.

If you play with Travellers, cycle like your life depends on it.

Look at ALL the cards when you start. ESPECIALLY those that aren't in the supply, or even technically "cards."

In real life, keep track of points. (I don't follow my own advice here, but still worth doing).

Thin before you green. (I didn't think this needed to be said, but I can never forget the poor soul who opened Duchy on a 5/2 and bought Chapels in bulk when the Provinces were low.)

And the most important advice for any board game: Have Fun!!!

There are no bad cards, only niche cards.

There are no bad cards, only niche cards.
Although frequently that niche is so small you'd be lucky to fit a card in there.

Moat only protects you from attacks if you have it in your hand. Don't count on it unless 1/5th of your deck consists of Moats.

Exception: your opponents are playing Council Room or Governor

No matter what the question is, the answer is always "engine".

Never open Advisor; rarely get it before T5.

Never open Market Square with the intention to gain quick Golds.

With Chapel/MS, don't gain any Gold until you've trashed your penultimate junk card.

Trade Route's main strength is early trashing; the late money is mostly a consolation price.

Goons.

With Rebuild-Duke, buy Estates and name Duchy all the way.

When your opponent has only a few non-actions, don't discard non-drawing actions with SP.

Goko by any other name is just as shit.

oh, I get it. let X be one of the enemy's stop cards, let A be non-drawing actions, let S be scrying pools. if the deck is

A X S S A A X ...

then flipping the A for your opponent actually gives them the mega-turn rather than taking it away from them. Even if their deck is

A S X S S A A ..

leaving the A doesn't actually hurt you, because they were still getting their megaturn either way. Nice! To misquote popsofctown, it's clear I need some time to study these hot new Alchemy cards.

Sorry to resurrect, but I just wanted to write this down and didn't know where else to put it:

You don't need to be thin if you have enough Hunting Parties.

That concept has pretty much single-handedly led me to several wins.  It basically changes my entire mindset in kingdoms with junker(s) & Hunting Party.

Ha, ha. I thought this was a thread for actual one-liners, like one liner jokes or pickup lines.

This one-liner looked like a bad pickup line to me, so I had to go read the OP.

Are you a Duchess? Because I'd be fine getting you for free when I buy a Duchy.

I'd spend way more than $6 to have you in my Harem.

If you were a Young Witch I'd never reveal my Bane.

I feel so dirty now.

Are you sure you're fine with a lady that keeps checking the top of everybody's decks?

I'd spend way more than $6 to have you in my Harem.

But no matter how much you pay, you still wouldn't be getting any Action.

If you were a Young Witch I'd never reveal my Bane.

But you would definitely reveal your Watchtower.

I feel so dirty now.

EDIT: I huh just realized that this was the serious thread. Sorry AdamH :(

If you don't plan on getting any other terminals and intend to pick up Silver, getting a terminal silver with a useful - even if pretty minor - effect is better most of the time.
