Tournament structure
Single elimination.
Byes in round 1 so we'll have a full bracket from round 2 onwards.
full seeding based on isotropish leaderboard

Match structure
Best of 6 games, a win counts for 1 point, a tie for 0.5 points.
If either player reaches 3.5 points it's over.
Both players get to start 3 games. Do random starts until either player has started 3 times.
If it's 3-3 after 6 games play a deciding 7th game with a random starting player.
If the 7th game is a tie according to the dominion rules, the 2nd player in that game wins.

Timing
The tournament starts on Monday 28th of september. We'll play one round a week, and you're supposed to schedule a suitable time with your opponent yourself.
You can sign up until Thursday 24 september.
FYI: Dominion League season 10 ends on Sunday 27th of September, and season 11 will be delayed by a couple of weeks.

Environment
The default for now is the "old goko", with the point counter enabled, on fully random sets.
If both players agree you're free to change this (play on the new server, play IRL, disable point counter, always include/exclude some cards, ...)

Feel free to ask questions here, I will edit this post if necessary.

What if Old Goko disappears during the tournament?

Does start player follow the same A - B - B - A - A - B pattern?

Let me take a guess... we move over to the new one, which I heard now has this marvelous challenge feature!

Does start player follow the same A - B - B - A - A - B pattern?

That pattern only makes sense in a first to 3 out of 6. I assume the default is what Goko decides for you + some dancing at the end, but you can use whatever you like as long as both players agree and would end up starting 3 games each.

If, say, you want to minimize the expected length of the match you should let the higher rated player start the first 3 games, though on Goko that's probably a bad idea.

Well I believe no one enjoys gokodancing all that much, but considering that

If either player reaches 3.5 points it's over.

maybe it is a good idea. Because it will be unfair if in a match of four games one player goes first only once.

Why? I think it doesn't matter at all. I think just handling this the same way like we do in league games works perfectly well and is just as fair.
The 7th game can then be a pro game again, if it comes to it.

Maybe you need to rethink this.

What if you're 3.5-0.5 behind after 4 games and only 1 start, and you still get to play those last 2 games?
How would you estimate your chances of still winning the match?

If the 7th game is a tie according to the dominion rules, the 2nd player in that game wins.

Maybe this could be modified at a certain point in the tournament (say at top 4 players) so that we don't have the final matches ending with ties. Perhaps just keep playing games with alternating first player until someone wins.

Possibly an obvious answer, but for those of us who cannot sign up for version 1.0 (well, I can play on it, but only as 'guest-circa-5392') does this mean an end to our hopes of signing up for the grand tourney?

If you want to play you're welcome, regardless of the number of sets you own on 1.0.

There is a risk though that if you're matched against someone who doesn't own any sets either you'll have to play an all-base match.
And you can always ask that person to play on 2.0 if you do have some sets there, they just might agree to that.

10 days left of signups. We're at the awkward number of 65 now, but I expect at least a dozen more in the last days.

FYI: I will copy the leaderboard on the 24th of September and use that for seeding.

What does "full seeding based on isotropish leaderboard" means? Not familiar with the term "seeding", thx.

Basically, the way the pairs of players for each match are determined, is based on the leaderboard ranking. The highest ranked player will, in the first round, play the lowest ranked player. The second highest with the second lowest, and so on. They call this process "seeding" the bracket.

When are variants too variant for the match to count?

Can I agree to play only 4-3 starts?
Can I agree to friendly swindles on 5s?
Can we veto Possession?
Can I count "everybody starves" as a draw?
Can I challenge silverspawn to a Prismata game to decide who will go first in the Dominion set?
Can I play Puzzle Strike instead?

For leagues/tournaments in general that wouldn't work because the match results often also affects other players standings.
But this is a knockout tournament so you can really do whatever you both like.
As long as you both enjoy it and it results in a winner it's fine with me.

I suggest playing some dominion though :)

No.  One of you must actually starve to death, and the other can claim a win.

Wouldn't it be easier to just let silverspawn go first?  I'm pretty certain he's going to kick everyone's ass in Prismata.

I can confirm this, since we're all Wandering Winder and he has kicked my ass.
