Battle of Wits

Inspired by something from Really Bad Card Ideas:

Which? - Action/Attack - $5
+2 Cards
Each other other play gains a Curse card or any other card of your choice.  You must make them guess which card.

I think this is kind of a fun idea for an Attack. It'd have to be online-only, I suppose:

Battle of Wits
Action–Attack: $4
+$2
Choose a card in the supply. Each other player simultaneously guesses what card you chose. Anyone who guessed wrong gains a copy of the chosen card.

Obviously you want to make them gain a Curse. But they know that, so they should guess Curse to protect themselves. But that means you don't want to pick Curse; you should pick Copper or Estate if they're going to guess Curse. But they know you know that, so if you're not going to pick Curse, they should guess something else. But if they're going to guess something else, maybe you should choose Curse after all….

You should almost always guess Curse. Funny card, but considering it's probably a curser (and will give cards out afterward!), it's priced too high or it should give only + for balance reasons.

Are you saying that it's too strong or too weak?

Considering I'm asking for things that would make it weaker... I think it might be too strong. It might be fine where it is though.

Pricing it lower would make it stronger.

…If you almost always guess Curse, it's probably not a curser.

Hm, you really think this is too strong for $4? Compare Swindler, another terminal-silver unreliable junker for less than $5. And the attack is (roughly) strictly weaker than "each other player gains a Copper or Estate, your choice", since the opponent is always free to decide to make it that.

Interesting how my bs inspired you tbh haha.  The card concept is cool and could actually work in real life.  It'll probably mostly be a rock-paper-scissors of curse-copper-estate and maybe ruins, but late game it could also be used to empty out piles.  You could also give bad kingdom cards or kingdom cards with on-gain effects that could benefit you.

How do you keep people honest about which card they chose?

You could also give bad kingdom cards or kingdom cards with on-gain effects that could benefit you.
Multiplayer game; choose IGG, reveal Trader/Watchtower.  In a 6-player game that's 4 Curses (and an IGG) for each of your opponents (and either 5 Silvers for you or 5 Curses trashed).  The funny thing is, even if they know what you're doing, they won't want to block you, because that would just keep the other players from getting cursed.  You can kind of do the same thing with Messenger and cost reducers (although that's a pretty rare set of cards).

Heck, even without Trader/Watchtower, you might still choose IGG if the number of Curses remaining is at least 2 less than the number of players (the player to your left gains IGG, the other players get cursed by it starting from his left, and the Curses run out before they get to you).

That's why I said it'd have to be online-only.

writing it down works.
Failing that, you could change it slightly:
Set aside a card from your hand, hidden from the other players.  Each player guesses what it is.  Reveal it and return it to your hand; anyone who guessed incorrectly gains a copy of it.

This weakens it drastically of course.  Including removing its cursing ability, sans other cursers.  You could make it able to curse again by saying that if you put it face down it's a curse.

or taking out an extra copy of every card in the game which is obviously more work.

You could use randomizers.  They exist for the basic cards too, don't they?  It conflicts a bit with Black Market but you'll rarely be naming kingdom cards anyway.
