Upgrading to Windows 10?

Who is upgrading to Windows 10? I'm uncertain if I should. On the one hand, it's free. I mean, if I'm going to have to update my OS anyway, might as well do it for free. But then I don't want to risk another ME or Vista. Thought I'd see what these guys are thinking.

 8) 8) 8)

I'm too happy with windows 7 to switch... at least yet. I mean, it's probably the only microsoft product that I really like.

Yeah, Windows 7 is treating me right so far. If Microsoft hadn't had such a spotty history, I'd be more willing to upgrade.

I agree, I just got a company laptop with Windows 7, and it made me remember just how much better it is than Windows 8/8.1 (which I have on my personal laptop). Cannot see how 10 is going to be better,

I have 8.1 and don't care for it that much. I'm concerned that 10 might be even worse though. I'll probably make the upgrade anyway.  ::)

Windows 7 is horrible. 8.1 is seriously a lot better.

Fun fact, for a while in college, I was running Windows 95. This was 2003.

I've recently returned to MS-land after buying a hybrid laptop earlier this year.  The non-traditional interface of 8.1 is an advantage for this sort of machine.  I expect that I will upgrade to 10 within the year, but I'll wait as long as possible to see if it causes problems for any people running the same hardware.

Windows 8.1 is just as good as Windows 7 as long as you have classic shell installed.  I have no desire to upgrade to Windows 10 at the moment.  Whenever my current pcs die I guess I will.

I'll upgrade to Windows 10 if I ever get a new computer. My laptop has had so many issues when it comes to OS installs (it has no CD port and doesn't like to boot by USB, and so I wasn't able to reinstall Windows 8 myself when I needed to). Not worth the risk for me.

Windows 8.1 seems fine to me. My laptop is a tablet hybrid with touch capabilities and 8.1's interface makes good use of that. For a desktop computer, I'd rather Windows 7, and XP would be acceptable too except it is no longer supported by Microsoft.

Windows machines aren't as efficient as Macs, because Windows has to take everyone's hardware and adapt to it. There was a test done where people ran Windows's interface on a MacBook and mac's interface on a windows laptop. The mac's battery life went down like crazy, while the windows computer was the same or better in battery life. If windows made their own machine and put effort into it, it might be a different story.

No, it's clearly the Windows interface that's a battery whore. Macbooks actually have effort put into them, and the interface is specifically designed to not be as consuming on the battery. With Windows, you only have 3rd party computers of all shapes and sizes, so you are losing potential power in inefficiency. If Windows made their own machine (which they did with their laptop/tablet hybrid if I'm not mistaken), their computers would have even more going for them that I could not debate about.

Honestly, I think the only thing stopping most people from going Mac is the price or the fact that it's not what people are used to. Same with me and Windows. I like XP, but that's it and that's for nostalgia reasons. The interface is needlessly complicated in my eyes.

The way it handles audio makes it completely unusable for any live settings and very frustrating in the studio.
