I do, but this is like the only month out of the year without any real football news (except for the odd fireworks accident).

Let the baseball weirdos have something

I'm a big Panthers fan, followed by being a big Patriots fan. And Redskins after that. Followed by whoever is playing the Cowboys at any given moment.

I was born in Houston and I cheer for the Texans. Try not to feel sorry for me. They'll make the second round of playoffs eventually.

After that I like the Panthers (I lived 8 years in Charlotte, NC and started watching football near the beginning of that time) and Patriots (for the sake of my best friend in college who got me into watching football).

Before college, I didn't give a rat's donkey about football. It was an aquired taste for me (as was heavy metal vocals).

I think I'll give a rundown of who I think will win or lose, who will make the playoffs, and who will totally bomb quite soon.

And Dez Bryant threatening (even swearing on his kids) to hold out into the regular season if he doesn't get a long-term deal, with the players union threatening to sue the Cowboys and Broncos for colluding not to pay him or Demaryus.

The Cowboys wanted to be that someone that even the Texans could shake their heads at.

I came back to football for the past 6 or 7 years, as my wife likes it a lot.  But I'm thinking of letting it go again.  The defense is not allowed to hit anyone; no one can lower their head to protect themselves; the refs can't get a handle on what constitutes a completed pass; Sean Payton was penalized a whole season on no evidence, but Brady only gets four games for tampering with the ball in a championship game (and that is decided AFTER the season is over - but you screw with a baseball and they throw you out of the game immediately). Roger Bad-ell is a joke.

The NFL is just a hot mess.

We all think Goodell is a joke. I don't let the bad get in the way of the game. And Sean Payton totally is guilty, there's no way he didn't know what was going on. He just didn't care.

I know, it shouldn't upset anyone at this point.  The rules don't apply to the Patriots - that's been proven time and time again.

Lol. Actually throughout history, the Patriots are only average cheaters. The biggest offenders are the Broncos. Every team cheats with crowd noise and ball inflating/deflating and stuff you've never even heard of unfortunately.

I am a hereditary Cowboys fan.  Meaning that my dad is a big fan and I won't cheer against them.  But really, now that I don't have a TV , I don't watch nearly as much football as I used to.

That being said, I am totally down for an f.ds fantasy league

I mean, I am a pretty terrible fan though.  I just like watching good games.  The Patriots/NY Giants Super Bowl was great.  Every time NE got the ball I thought the game would end, but the Giants magically stopped them.  But as for teams I cheer for....my dad's family is the Cowboys (as previously mentioned), mom's side is Broncos, I live in the Seattle area and am not going to cheer against the Sounders or any other team that they might share a stadium with, my girlfriend is a big Packers fan.....so yeah.  I grew up all over and never really settled down on a team, but do enjoy watching a good football game.

I'll probably make one on ESPN or NFL this week then, when my power comes back.

My only question is when the draft should be. Probably a month or two?

Yeah, the draft doesn't need to happen until like a week or two before the season starts

I was born and raised in the Denver area, so I've always been a Broncos fan. The first specific thing I can remember from watching a football game was TD getting injured in Super Bowl XXXII.

Anyway, I recently learned about some salary cap nonsense the Broncos did during the Super Bowl winning years; have there been other big incidents I'm just unaware of?

PPE: after 5 seconds of Googling, I have discovered https://yourteamcheats.com/, this should be fun ;D

Yeah this seems a little biased towards the Patriots. For instance, several other teams also have "deflategates", and they were all penalized more than the Patriots were. They also have several 'gates' mentioned that they're awarded zero points for. Sure, they're minor incidents, but every single other team gets majorly penalized for minor incidents from 30 years ago.

Conclusion: This was a site made by a Patriots fan who wanted to say "Look! Everyone else cheats too!!!!!!!"

Edit: This is from the website.
Quote
When you are consistently outplayed and outcoached by the same team year-after-year (or worse, lose to them in a Super Bowl) you WANT to believe -- you NEED to believe -- that the only reason you can't match up is because of some mysterious Patriots' black magic voodoo cheating.

To keep your sanity, you make up fairy tales to soothe yourself. I get that, I really do. I used to feel the same way about the New York Yankees when they were good. I sympathize.

Unfortunately for you, though, your tidy little bedtime story is a lie. Find yourself a good therapist to help you deal with your issues instead. Get well soon.

More Patriots bias from the site:

Quote
There was no punishment because the Patriots' substitutions were completely legal. Belichick was simply playing chess while Harbaugh was playing checkers.

After the season concluded, the league members considered a proposal from the Ravens to simplifying the "eligible/ineligible" rule so Harbaugh and the Ravens could better understand it.

In March 2015 the NFL competition committee did in fact vote to dumb-down the rule for Harbaugh, the Ravens and the other teams who had a hard time with the original version. An anonymous league source said that they even wrote a summary in crayon for them, using pictures and cartoon characters for some of the bigger words and more complicated concepts. Despite all this, rumor has it that Harbaugh still has no idea what the rule says.

I never said they were nothing but cheaters.  I said that they get lighter punishment (and that was before I realized that we are still waiting on a decision about Brady - he may get nothing).  By contrast, A-Rod never had a positive test, and he got A YEAR'S SUSPENSION.

And to whomever said that Sean Payton "had to know": you have as little evidence of that as I have that Bellicheater "had to know".  But I think any rational person that had gotten hammered over videotaping an opponents practice would be motivated to become more deeply involved and more completely aware of all of the happenings within the organization, lest it run afoul of the rules again.  However, given that the penalties are so light, why bother?  Why not keep cheating?  America has no concept of shame anymore.

"Spygate" was not about videotaping opponents' practices. There has never been any evidence of the Patriots videotaping an opponent's practice. They were not punished for videotaping an opponent's practice.

Okay, forget fantasy for now. Whatever.

The Browns signed RG3. Thoughts?

It will take a lot more than RGIII to make the Browns good

I think he is better than manziel. He needs to stay healthy. Manziel needs to stay away from parties

What does everyone think about Josh Norman getting let go so suddenly by the Panthers? Do they know something we don't, or are they just calling his bluff and letting him test the market?

Here we go again. I really think the NFL is a dying industry. It's only so long before someone comes up with undeniable evidence that football gives you a lot more concussions than the media makes us think and concussions are a lot worse than the media leads us to think.

Maybe that's a better discussion for RSP though. But every thread I make in RSP goes terribly off topic and sometimes gets locked

The evidence is already there lol. It's just that Nobody Cares, and it'll take a long time for there to be a real shortage of good players as a result.

Anyhow, Cam Newton is a good footballer. But I'm just watching this to tide me over until the Packer game on Sunday.

Seaman or what's his name is looking sharp. It will be interesting to see how he plays week 6 when defenses have tape on him. It'll also be interesting to see the dynamics between Paxton Lynch and Siemian.

Don't think so, I expect a 12-4 there and a first round bye.
Vikings will do much worse, not sure if they even make it to the playoffs. They will finish second in the NFC North and I'm not sure if they will gain the second WC (first is surely going to Cards/Seahawks).

Good night :D

The Vikings will have a better record than the Cardinals. This is the year the Cardinals fall apart. They'll start off well enough, but Carson Palmer is going to not have a prolific year as many assume, and will even start falling off the wheels as time goes on. He'll inevitably choke in the playoffs (they'll make it but as a Wildcard; The Seahawks are too good and will thrash them both division games). After that, they will start Carson Palmer next year too instead of investing in a QB like they should have years ago, all of the players will leave for free agency, and the Cardinals will suck for at least 3-4 years after. I have no illusions that the best year for the Cardinals is behind them.

Fitzgerald will start dropping off this year, James Betcher (the DC) will be exposed for the fraud he is (he really is awful and only succeeded because there's so much talent) and the Cardinals D is only a Matthieu injury away from being exposed.

I think the Cards will do better, not because they will be extremely good, but because I don't understand how the Vikings could possibly be good without a reasonable quarterback. That horrid trade for one of the worst quarterbacks in the league. Both will get trampled by the Packers though, who are legitimate Super Bowl contenders.

You underestimate Sam Bradford. He is not even close to one of the worst QBs in the league. That's so silly to say.

They have no idea what they are talking about. Sam Bradford gets a really bad rap, and he's honesly not that bad. Overpaid? Yes. Bad? Give me a break. Bradford in his prime is about the same as Cutler.

As an example, look at what Denver did last year. Awful Manning who threw tons of picks with an awful offense. They won the Super Bowl on Defense. The Vikings won't be quite as good as Denver, but their offense should be better anyways, with all of those receivers and AP to boot. The Vikings will be fine. People like to call everything "the worst thing ever" or "the best thing ever". The Vikings have an easy schedule too. Just look at it!

Titans, Packers, Panthers, Giants, Texans, Eagles, Bears, Lions, Redskins, Cardinals, Lions, Cowboys, Jaguars, Colts, Packers, Bears

Assume the Vikings lose both games to the Packers. They still win tons of games here. Totally soft schedule.

The Cardinals are a complete fucking joke. 90 year old Carson Palmer couldn't get it done with his incredible imitation of a 2016 Manning pass. The Patriots without Gronk and Brady beat this apparently incredible Cardinals Defense and Offense. What a joke. The Cardinals go 8-8 at best.

The Cardinals were even worse than I thought. Complete embarrassment. I don't think Arians is adjusting to playcalls all that well. Opponents take away the long ball and the Cardinals cannot adjust it seems. Maybe Palmer is falling off the edge as well. I'm absolutely furious.

Marvin Lewis has been exposed for the playoff-winless fraud that he is. All of his successes in recent years can be attributed to Mike Zimmer and Hue Jackson.
