Thoughts and links on my match against werothegreat

Recorded stream: http://www.twitch.tv/assemble_me/v/8422284

Game 1:

http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20150721/log.505c6195a2e6c78ad2ed5a99.1437502747851.txt

Code: [Select]
Shanty Town, Workshop, Fortress, Thief, Baker, Jester, Laboratory, Mystic, Stables, Wharf(Provinces/Estates)

I've had quite some Wharf engines this season. With Baker around, we both open Silver and Wharf, picking up Workshop for Fortresses later. He gets a Jester but gets quite unlucky with it only hitting stuff which is already bought out. I don't really find the time for adding a Jester myself, I rather gain more Wharves by buying them myself. I wonder a lot what to pick up with my Workshops after Fortresses run out, because I want to draw with my Shanty Towns. I don't want the Silvers and probably pick up too many Shanty Towns that way. I'm extra-focussed on piles but it takes quite a couple of turns, until they're gone.
The chat suggested to take Province-Estate-Estate when I had my 12$ turn with five Wharves in play. That way I could have probably won the turn after.

Game 2 (starting at ~19:00):

http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20150721/log.505c6195a2e6c78ad2ed5a99.1437503395843.txt

Code: [Select]
Loan, Advisor, Coppersmith, Rats, Baker, Festival, Mine, Saboteur, Tactician, Torturer(Provinces, Shelters)

A Festival-Torturer engine, again with Baker around. Everything you really want costs 5$, but I still want a Loan with my Torturer to open with to trash some Coppers. It seems like my trashing works out. I really wonder if and when to add a Tactician here. As I don't really know, I just keep building the usual way.
The chat suggested to add a Tactician over my fourth Torturer and I can see that working out pretty well. They had a good laugh about my Rats but hey, I don't really think it's that terrible, and I didn't really wanted anything else for <5$ as well ;). It seemed like my opponent picked up Curses too carelessly here and there, I also liked my Loan a lot.

Game 3 (starting at ~29:30):

http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20150721/log.505c6195a2e6c78ad2ed5a99.1437504040124.txt

Code: [Select]
Hamlet, Sea Hag, Counterfeit, Graverobber, Haggler, Ill-Gotten Gains, Margrave, Rogue, Upgrade, King's Court(Provinces, Shelters)

Huge engine board! But also ALL the attacks. It looks like I've skipped Sea Hag a bit too often recently because I don't dare to do so here, so we both open Sea Hag/Silver. I can't hit 5$ and have the dilemma to add more Silvers and bloat up my deck while he gets a second Sea Hag and dumps a lot of Courses into it. I'm losing the split 8-2 in the end. I don't really like him taking Provinces over King's Courts but I guess it doesn't really matter any more.
The chat thought I should have skipped Sea Hag, too, I guess I got unlucky as well. Anyways, YMYOSL.

Game 4 (starting at ~40:45):

http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20150721/log.505c6195a2e6c78ad2ed5a99.1437505242863.txt

Code: [Select]
Courtyard, Secret Chamber, University, Fortune Teller, Urchin, Watchtower, Coppersmith, Gardens, Butcher, Grand Market(Provinces, Estates)

I'm opening Urchin/Urchin here while he goes for Butcher on 5/2. I'm picking up quite some terminals but actually I want a lot of Grand Markets. He's getting his Mercenary late but it doesn't look I'm doing really fine. I'm winning the GM split 7-3 but I wonder if I should have greened earlier here instead. Later I miss a really simple forced win, as I could just butcher a Grand Market into Province and buy Duchy, which again is pretty sad.
The chat was sad, too, because I skipped Potion. There was a University-Watchtower engine to be built but neither of us went for it. Overall I played this one really bad :(

Game 5 (starting at ~1:00:45):

http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20150721/log.505c6195a2e6c78ad2ed5a99.1437505726588.txt

Code: [Select]
Doctor, Masquerade, Masterpiece, Alchemist, Baron, Pirate Ship, Saboteur, Torturer, Venture, Farmland(Provinces, Estates)

We both decide to play money here, he opens Masquerade/Masquerade but hits 6$ after the shuffle anyways and a lot of times after that, while my shuffles don't seem that great after opening Silver/Masq and adding a second Masq after the shuffle.
Maybe I should have bought a Masterpiece somewhere on 6$ but I'm not convinced with Farmland around. The chat said I should have played Ventures before the other money cards for possible Farmland actions. But hey, at least I was able to Farmland a Gold into a Province once, which almost makes me proud ;).

Game 6 (starting at ~1:08:30):

http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20150721/log.505c6195a2e6c78ad2ed5a99.1437506094299.txt

Code: [Select]
Great Hall, Masterpiece, Menagerie, JackOfAllTrades, Cache, Horn of Plenty, Hunting Grounds, Nobles, Bank, Prince(Provinces, Estates)

So many nice engine components but we both decide to play vanilla Jack & money. I have a 6$ hand after the shuffle and decide just to add Gold and don't do fancy stuff.
The chat suggested that I could have thought about other options more, like adding a Masterpiece and a Hunting Grounds. Maybe that's okay, but I doubt that it's much better than just Jack. I think should have taken a Bank or a Masterpiece over Gold on turn 5, though. I really wondered about his Bank on turn 8 for 9$ over a Province.

I guess the result was okay for me that day, but I hate how I played the fourth one and also misplayed in the third. Oh well.

Links and thoughts on my match against Malmerung

We've played in two sessions, so video 1: http://www.twitch.tv/assemble_me/v/8422357
Video 2: http://www.twitch.tv/assemble_me/v/8607567

Game 1 (Video 1, starting at 0:00):

http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20150724/log.50e7525ee4b0b5b74140a6c0.1437738961581.txt

Code: [Select]
Poor House, Menagerie, Advisor, Counterfeit, Counting House, Graverobber, Horn of Plenty, Merchant Guild, Minion, Rogue(Provinces, Shelters)

He has 5/2 here and can open Counterfeit and takes a Poor House along which I don't really like, but it works out okay I guess, where I open double Silver. He's going for lots Minions after one Counterfeit. I have a nice 5/5 on my second shuffle and take two Counterfeits. My plan is to draw my deck using Menageries and Advisors and make something with HoP happen. It takes some time but I feel quite confident with all my gains and buys while he only has one Counterfeit which he also doesn't play all that often with his Minions. I add two Merchant Guilds late which are okay, but not great eiher.
The chat wasn't sure what I'm doing for a long time. I definitely like going for HoP here, though, maybe my opponent could have outscored me by greening a bit harder. It seems like I made things for me a bit hard during my last turn, because I could have gotten just 5 Provinces by doing Counterfeit-Counterfeit-Horn-Horn for four and then buying the last.

Game 2 (Video 1, starting at ~27:45):

http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20150724/log.50e7525ee4b0b5b74140a6c0.1437739418164.txt

Code: [Select]
Herbalist, Chancellor, Remake, Scavenger, Duke, Highway, Horn of Plenty, Margrave, Mint, Mountebank(Provinces, Estates)

We both open Remake/Silver and go for a Mountebank before going for Duchy/Duke. The big difference is he is able to collide his Remake with Estates to Silvers. He can even buy a bunch of Provinces before turning to Duchies which I don't really like.
It seems like the Chat would have gone Scavenger over Remake. I was in doubt regarding my Remake as well but on the other hand, if I could have collided with my Estates early on I might have been all right.

Game 3 (Video 2, beginning):

http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20150725/log.50e7525ee4b0b5b74140a6c0.1437859790027.txt

Code: [Select]
Alchemist, Feodum, Herald, Salvager, Sea Hag, Silk Road, Explorer, Graverobber, Inn, Mine(Provinces, Estates)

Sloggish Sea Hag board. You could do some engine kind of thing but I don't think it's better than just going for Sea Hag and money right away. We're both opening Sea Hag. My plan is actually to get a Salvager and maybe even some Feoda before going for Duchies and Silk Roads but I only hit 3$ and 6$ hands. While 3$ has to be Silver I don't think other cards are really better than Gold here on 6$. He's getting lots and lots of actions, a Salvager and almost all the Heralds. With all my money I feel ready to just green, going for Duchies and spiking quite some Provinces, I also pick up an Explorer for some extra longevity/money.
I don't really think engine is the way to go here, altough I would have liked a Salvager myself. He surely should have stopped on the Heralds a bit earlier. Maybe I should have gone for Silk Roads over Duchies right away. I missed to win by buying the last Herald a turn earlier but at least it wasn't that bad this time.

Game 4 (Video 2, starting at ~16:30):

http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20150725/log.50e7525ee4b0b5b74140a6c0.1437860268683.txt

Code: [Select]
Vagrant, Tunnel, Marauder, Plaza, Quarry, Tournament, Walled Village, Ill-Gotten Gains, Knights, Outpost(Provinces, Estates)

2/5 is a pretty nice opening on an IGG board as first player. We're also picking up Tournaments although getting prices is less likely in such a bloated deck that usually doesn't buy lots of Provinces. I'm getting lucky to connect a Tournament and my early Province, though, and can flood Silvers with Steed which I think is great in these kind of decks.
Not a lot else to say, I actually wanted a Marauder instead of my first Tournament. I think he should have gotten one as well, but I guess this game was mainly first player and 2/5 opening advantage mixed up with Tournament luck.

Game 5 (Video 2, starting at ~23:15):

http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20150725/log.50e7525ee4b0b5b74140a6c0.1437860942145.txt

Code: [Select]
Forager, Oasis, Storeroom, Bazaar, Harvest, Merchant Guild, Stables, Torturer, Possession, Expand(Provinces, Estates)

Torturer engine time. I'm picking up three Foragers, he can hit an early Expand but skips Foragers. I'm getting thin pretty fast and get the chain up and running. Don't know if Merchant Guilds were the right thing to add in the end but they helped me very well to run out piles.
Despite his early Expand he should have taken one or another Forager early. I probably should have thought about trashing Silvers and Golds sooner. I still don't know if there's a place to add Possession in this deck.

Game 6 (Video 2, starting at ~35:00):

http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20150725/log.50e7525ee4b0b5b74140a6c0.1437861768110.txt

Code: [Select]
Native Village, Apothecary, Fishing Village, Great Hall, Bridge, Farming Village, Catacombs, Embassy, Journeyman, Venture(Provinces, Estates)

An engine with Bridge, all the villages, all the draw, but there's no trashing. I like Apothecary in these kind of decks because it helps to get your deck under control somewhat faster. He skips Potion but it's mostly a pretty close game. I take some Catacombs as extra draw while he prefers Embassy.
Overall it looks like I've been slightly over-terminaled this game and also am a bit greedy regarding bridges and maybe should have gotten more draw instead. I don't think Embassy is so great here, I think Journeyman or Catacombs are better despite the on-buy attack. Also, I didn't really understand his Gold buy. I don't know if I should have picked up some Native Villages there but I guess I liked to play it this way. In the end, he probably shouldn't have left the Duchy pile with one Duchy left and should have gotten a Province instead, but he's probably been in a bad position anyways.
Should we have just played straight Native Village/Bridge here? I don't think so, but I'm not convinced.

No lengthy report or log, but during my match last night with Cuzz, in a Marauder/Scheme/KC/Forge game, Cuzz drew his entire deck, then had to politely ask for my patience while he googled the Ruins art to ensure he trashed the correct ones.

Cuzz, you have my sympathies. Easily the highlight of the entire match for me.
