(Another) Targeted Discard Attack

Inspired by some recent threads:

Original
Quote
Vandal
Cost: $4
Action

+ 3 Cards
Reveal and discard a card from your hand. Each other player with more than 3 cards in their hand discards a copy of the revealed card or reveals a hand without any of those copies.

It's sort of a cross between Militia and Smithy, though that wasn't really the goal. Thoughts? I wasn't sure whether the three card cap was needed, though I'm guessing it is.

+3 Cards
Discard a card. Each other player with 5 or more cards in hand discards a copy of that card (or reveals a hand without it).

The only issue is that it gets political after the first one. After the first time, you know what everybody else has in their hands and can try to make targeted attacks. Maybe not such an issue in practice.

I do suggest that it only work on players with 5 or more cards in hand.

Suggested rewording: Discard a card. Each other player with 5 or more cards in hand discards a copy of that card (or reveals a hand without it).

• When a single card is discarded, it is implicitly revealed; see Jester.
• You don't have to specify that a discarded card comes "from your hand". That's the default.
• The "…or reveals a hand…" bit should be in parentheses; see Cutpurse, etc.

That wording looks much better. Thanks!

Hmm, yeah. I suppose it can be fairly political, but not too much more than Pillage. I do think limiting it to 5 or more cards would help mitigate that aspect, so I'll change that as well.

I kinda like it, the only problem is that you don't want to discard good cards, and if you discard a curse/estate/duchy/province with it (usually) isn't much of an attack, so it seems like you'll almost always be discarding copper with it. There may be enough exceptions that it isn't really a bad thing. Looks worth trying out as-is.

Tested this out. It was meh - even with the ability to play the card multiple times. It'd probably be better at $3 so that you can open Vandal/Vandal. Or, perhaps, instead of discarding your card, have it be placed on top of the deck.

Yeah, I played a few games with this:

Quote
Serf
$2 – Action-Attack
+1 Card
+1 Action
Reveal a card from your hand and put it on top of your deck.  Each other player with five or more cards in his hand discards a copy of that card (or reveals a hand with no copies of that card in it).

Top-decking is nice because it doesn't feel like your card is going to waste; OTOH, you would rather discard than top-deck cards like Copper or Estate.  I think making it terminal draw makes more sense though, because as a cantrip it just feels kind of awkward that you can't load up on them like you can with normal cantrips.
