I solved a puzzle!

Straight and Arrow 1. It was pretty fun, like with most logic puzzles it's nice when you realise you can deduce things in multiple different ways, eliminate possibilites and join information from across the board.

Proof of solving: The solution loop looks like a C with a horn and a hat.

...spin-offs are still better for all of the previously cited reasons.
But not strictly better, because the spinoff can have a different cost than the expansion.

I...never saw it that way...  Anyway, that is correct!  Thanks for solving!

logic puzzles are awesome.

I'm frequently playing at nikoli.com and www.croco-puzzle.com.  Also gp.worldpuzzle.org

I'm eager to look at these ones you made.

Gonna try out the puzzle when I have time to print it out -- tried to do it without pen + paper but it was too confusing.

One small tip -- adding a quick link to the rules for each puzzle would be helpful (something such as "To look at the rules for Polyominous, click here"). I had to dig through your old blog posts to confirm the rules and it would be much easier for the viewer to have it in the blog post itself.

Looking forward to doing this puzzle and others on the site!

EDIT: I see you have the rules tab, so that helps. But I think a quick line in the puzzle itself would still be helpful.

In the rules for Boxing Match, you have:

Quote
1. Divide the grid into rectangles along the grid lines.
2. Each rectangle must contain exactly two shapes.
3. Rectangles containing two circles may not be a square.
4. Rectangles containing at least one square must be a square.

Is rule 3 telling me that I cannot ever draw a square containing two circles? If so, I would replace "may not" with "cannot". Also, "a square" should be "squares" in 3 and 4 to match "Rectangles".

Looking forward to trying to solve one!

Rule 3 is supposed to mean you can never draw a square containing two circles.  I changed it to "must not".  Thanks for the feedback!

I did Boxing Match 1 and 2. Quick solve times and fun puzzles! I do like the name, too.

If any of you think a puzzle is broken (not having exactly one solution), please tell me.

Do you design for reasoning such as, "There will only be one solution, therefore..."

You can't design that way, or else it will have multiple solutions.  Sometimes you can use that type of reasoning though in an unintended way, but I don't like it.  I can't use it when test-solving puzzles, and I would prefer others not use it in case they do find multiple solutions.

Do you think my new logic puzzle type is too weird with too many rules?  (Here's a puzzle)

Whoa, I just noticed this. I usually don't read General Discussion.

Well look at that. I inspired someone to do something!

I like logic puzzles. I'll print these out for plane rides :)
