Computer's readability wiped

A while ago a windows update made my computer's default font look absolutely horrendous.  I googled it and people said a system restore would fix it.  It did.  Yay!  But then, windows updated the computer again, and the font went back to bad...  Do any of you know what to do?

You don't necessarily need a new computer, just get a new OS if that's the only problem.

Have you tried messing with the Cleartype settings? It's possible that could help.

No, it's just that because of how old the computer is it just isn't too great hardware-wise.  It has 4 GB max RAM, and is really slow.

If the computer came with Vista then I guarantee that there's a Linux distribution that will absolutely fly on it.  Even if you do get a new one in the end, this is an excellent opportunity to experiment if that's something that's ever interested you.

I've used Linux before, and it's not for me.

Also, after looking up Cleartype, I decided to spend even more time googling and found a way to uninstall the update...  I should have known to google even longer before asking someone...
