Haggler-BM loses to...something

I have 5/2 with Haggler and Masterpiece out. The engine is tempting with Black Market, Bishop, Possession, but I'm 95% certain it's a trap. No cantrips or villages in kingdom, at best you have Conspirator but you need cards from BM to activate it. There's one Plaza and one Nobles as villages in the BM and that's it. I don't think it can race Haggler-BM with Masterpiece support and I have 5/2 anyways, so I go for it.

I get to an early lead, then stall out, hit $7 a bunch, and my opponent catches up in time after pivoting off from Black Market after buying the Plaza in it.

The main misplays I see is that I shouldn't have bought the Copper when I played Merchant Guild and Bishop-trashing Haggler was way too early, but it doesn't feel like that should have hurt as much as it did.

You're not playing haggler-bm.

Big: I think both of your bishops should be Silver
Small: I'd take gold over masterpiece even at $7

I would always take the copper with merchant guild in play. Coin tokens are superb in haggler-bm

Also: just unlucky with the many $7 hands

Turn 18, I think you should Bishop the Royal Seal, buy Estate.
Is 1 more point, and leaves 2 duchy in supply.
If you get $8 on turn 19 you should win anyway.
So leaving a Duchy for you to buy on Turn 19 seems good to me.

I think royal seal is the best card in the kingdom here and royal seal/embargo looks like a better opening. If you draw a hand with both haggler and embargo on turn 3 then you're probably going to set up a run of 'bad luck' with terminal congestion. On the other hand royal seal + embargo has full versatility to deal with bad draws and can create big early masterpieces with good draws. An embargo to stop the opponent getting royal seals looks good too.

To continue the theme I'd take royal seal before the second haggler, royal seal instead of merchant guild, etc. There's also a question of whether haggler/nothing is a better opening than haggler/embargo.
