There comes a time for everyone... but this time it's Stef and Mic Qsenoch's time!

We've never seen a Champion Match in the league without one of them present, but now it's time for our only two previous league champions to DO BATTLE.

The Season 5 Champion Match will be on Sunday, February 1 at 20:00 UTC. I'll be streaming it from my channel, and if all goes well we'll be able to see both players' hands throughout the match. Wandering Winder and I will be commentating.

Rarely will you get a chance to see such high-level Dominion play from this kind of perspective, GET HYEP!

Just to warn you, Goko isn't currently working for lots of people. (i reported it, and mentioned this match, so hopefully they'll fix it in time) Is there a backup plan if Goko fails to be fixed in time?

I just tested Goko, enough of it was working that I was able to get a game up and played against a human opponent. Hopefully this holds for the champion match.

If for some reason Goko isn't going to cooperate with us, then I'm guessing the match will have to be postponed. That's up to MQ and Stef -- the process is that they pick a time that's good for both Europe and America to watch, and that they can both make (I think) and then I schedule everything else around that.

When Stef and I join WW and Adam at the end on the Skype call, everybody's voice is way quieter than mine so you may want to watch that part with Adam's video. It will all be the same audio at that point. I usually think I'm too quiet relative to the people I'm Skyping with but I apparently overcompensated with my OBS volume settings this time.

Fortune Teller, Market Square, Armory, Death Cart, Trader, Baker, Bazaar, Council Room, Jester, Tactician

Provinces/Estates. This has strong engine components but it's tough to make it work because all the key components cost $5 and Trader is weak trashing. Double Tactician looks tempting but is a trap because there's such weak trashing.

Embargo, Loan, Oasis, Tunnel, Woodcutter, Caravan, Golem, Duke, Vault, Witch

Colonies/Estates. Embarrassingly, I lost this one to Lord Bottington, who opened Loan/Potion, hit $4P for Golem on his next shuffle, and picked up Tunnels which Golem turned into Gold machines. I wanted to see how the best played it because there are so many options.

Stonemason, Lookout, Wishing Well, Mining Village, Moneylender, Procession, Governor, Rogue, Wharf, Grand Market

Provinces/Estates. This was my favorite submission. It's an incredibly powerful and complex board with every card potentially being useful, lots of draw, and tons of mid-turn gains with Stonemason, Procession and Rogue.

I'm really not sure about that... I agree that double Tact without Trader is horrible but with the Trader it should at least be competitive and I'd personally guess even better than the single Tact deck. I'd open Tact/FT, then Bazaar/Trader, prefering nothing Market Square over a 2nd FT until I have at least a 2nd Bazaar, then 2nd Tact and then alternating Bazaars, Bakers and Jesters, waiting with Jester until I'm drawing the deck each turn, for which a CR could help.

The single Tactician deck should get an early start but stall hard once it gets Cursed each turn. Its economy just isn't that great and if you build more initially to make up for that, you're playing into the double Tact's hand, which because of its higher growth-rate has any prolongation of the game work in its favor.

So, I tried some stuff with Trader, and it just seemed awfully slow. This plan is also pretty weak to Jester, which makes it extremely difficult for you to make substantial progress in getting the number of stop cards in your deck down.

I've played the kingdom several times without feeling like I know the absolute best thing yet, but I don't *think* it's what you're describing. I'd be happy to give it a whirl though.

Yeah the Jester attack might be problematic. I'll be in Outpost if you want to try it out.

If anyone is wondering, we played several test games, I got throttled hard in the first, then won very consistently in the rest. I actually have come to think you want to open Jester/Silver (the FT attack does very little 1st shuffle, maybe even a negative because it cycles them, certainly not worth the risk of collision), getting FT on your next $3-4, then feathering in Bazaars, a Tactician, and more Jesters. At least if the opponent is going for the engine like this. Thing is, you don't really need to hit them with curses so much. Hitting them with anything is bad for them.

Not sure about when to get Tactician; either before the first bazaar or right after it, I think. Also not sure how things change in something more like a mirror - there's definitely a lot of play, and you need to really adjust to your opponent.
