Forum King's Court (Jimmmmm's card game)
« on: January 21, 2015, 02:06:32 pm »

I'm currently calling it King's Court (for lack of a better name).

Basically the court consists of 9 characters, each of which is either Good or Evil. Think of it as kind of their own game of Mafia, but everyone is uninformed and either side could be the majority.
Each character has action cards that players can play. Some action cards are Good, some are Evil. A Good character has more Good action cards, while an Evil character has more Evil action cards.
When players play action cards, as well as the special action on the card, they will cause the characters to attack and finally kill other characters.
At the end of the game, the side with the most living characters (or, in case of a tie, the side with the fewest dead characters) wins.
Players then get points for having played cards associated with characters on the winning side (regardless of whether the character is living or dead, or whether the card is a Good or Evil action card).

At this stage I'm thinking it will take 2-4 players, and will probably be worst with 4, but I'll take anything in that range.
If I get any interest, I'll release the full current rules and characters/cards.

It's not designed as a forum game, but I think it should be okay. It does have card draw etc, but mostly at the end of turns.

I'm currently calling it King's Court (for lack of a better name).

If I volunteer, do I have to play it three times?

XP and ADK are in. faust?

A link to the rules is in the OP. Let me know if anything is unclear, or could be worded better, or if I've missed something.

The following characters will be used in this game. Each character has 10 Action/Alignment cards: 5 Good Action/Evil Team cards and 5 Evil Action/Good team cards. At the start of the game, 3 of these cards for each character are placed underneath that character to determine that character's Alignment based on the bottom of the card. The remaining 7 go into the deck and are Good or Evil actions based on the top of the card and the text.

Mercenary

Assassin

FAQ
GOOD ASSASSIN ACTION: You must choose which of the three Alignment cards to look at (1st, 2nd or 3rd). If you put it back, it does not change the order of the three cards.

Thief

Scientist

Craftsman

Guide

Spy

FAQ
GOOD SPY ACTION: For each Alignment card you look at, you must choose one of the three. This does not change the order of the three cards. You may either look at 2 cards of one neighbour or one card each of two neighbours.

Doctor

FAQ
EVIL DOCTOR ACTION: If another player causes a neighbour to attack, they must choose which character they are attacking before the player with this card in play chooses whether to activate the effect. Dealing damage due to a card's text does not count as attacking.

if faust doesn't want to I'd try playing it. I'm curious now

I'll be ready to start in the next day or two. At this stage XP, ADK and Hydrad are in. Have you read the rules? Any questions?

The rules don't explain "summoning a card" but I assume that just means you pick a card and put it into play, and then next turn you can "play" it.

"Evil Craftsman" says to put it on another player's deck, do other players have decks? I thought they just had hands, in play and scoring areas.

If the Mercenary is Pure Evil, and Good triumphs, then his cards count negative; but the "Evil Mercenary" card is already negative, so in this case does that card become positive?

Okay thanks. Yeah it means placing a card from your hand into play. I don't like the word summon for this, since you're using actions, not creatures, but I'm not sure what else to call it.

Oh right. Deck = old terminology for score area.

When I get around to it I'll make picture versions of the board and player hands. For now I've sent out text versions of player hands.
The court is as follows:

MercenaryAssassinThief
ScientistCraftsmanGuide
SpyDoctorSmith

All characters on 0 damage.

Each player must now PM me a card from their hand to summon. The player whose card has the highest rank will be the first player, with Good cards ranked higher than bad cards, and then ranked by position as follows:

1 2 3
4 5 6
7 8 9

with 1 being the highest rank.

Player order (subject to first player being determined) is:
XerxesPraelor
A Drowned Kernel
Hydrad

XerxesPraelor summons Good Craftsman Action
A Drowned Kernel summons Good Spy Action
Hydrad summons Good Smith Action

XerxesPraelor has the highest ranked card, and so goes first.

First, play the Good Craftsman Action. Choose a neighbour of the Craftsman (Assassin, Scientist, Guide or Doctor) to attack for 1 damage. The Good Craftsman Action will then go into your score area. You must then choose another card from your hand to summon, and then you will draw a card.
