This is the rules thread for Dune Mafia 2, an RMM game by ashersky.

Game rules, mechanics, player lists, and universal questions and answers will be limited to this thread only.  The game thread will be separate.

If you contacted me with interest in playing, but did NOT receive a PM from me by the end of January 19, you are currently on the waiting list.

Game Specific Terminology & Notes:

Town will be known as Liet-Kynes-aligned in this game.

--------------------------

No player alignments are able to change once the game is underway.

--------------------------

Water rules on Arrakis. There is no more precious commodity, not even the spice melange.

Everyone starts with a full body of water and a stillsuit. Water is measured in liters (to the half-liter). All math rounds up to the advantage of the player. The rate at which water is consumed in the desert is set and public, listed below.

Rate of water loss (normal) = 1% per day (24 IRL hours), additional 1% per 5% of stillsuit damage
Rate of water loss (fatigued) = 2% per day (24 IRL hours), additional 1% per 5% of stillsuit damage
Rate of water loss (affected) = 3% per day (24 IRL hours), additional 1% per 5% of stillsuit damage

>95% body water = no ill effects
91 to 95% body water = fatigued
84 to 90% body water = affected
-84% body water = at death's door

Players that are at death's door for two consecutive days will die, triggering day's end.

Some in-game effects and actions can directly affect a player's water consumption. If a player does not post for a 24-hour period, their rate of water loss will increase each day until they post.  For the purposes of this rule, Saturday and Sunday will be combined to count as one 24-hour period when it comes to posting, but not water consumption.

Players may freely give each other water from literjons, in increments of .5 liter. Players who receive water from literjons must immediately drink it, or have some place to store it, or it will be lost to the desert. It will not be returned to the giver.

When the sun is nearing, at, or just passed its zenith, it is hottest.  More body water will be consumed during those times.

Game Specific Mechanics:

Forgo sleep. Some night actions require a player to “forgo sleep” in order to do them. If you do, it will affect your body water level.

Targeted actions. All action names are verbs in the imperative mood (i.e., “kill” or “eat”). When an action is being used, the player must write the action name followed by a colon, one space, and the target’s player name in their Role QT. The entire phrase must be bolded. For example: Salute: sudgy.

Day actions. Actions that are restricted to day phases must, and actions that do not specify a game phase may, occur during the “day action window.” The day action window begins 24 hours into each day and closes 48 hours later. The first 24 hours of a day and all time after 72 hours have passed are action-free. The day action window will not be announced.

Night actions. Actions that are restricted to night phases must, and actions that do not specify a game phase may, be submitted in the first 24 hours of night.  That is the "night action submission deadline" as seen in all of my games.

All day actions are resolved in the order in which they are posted, whether in thread or in QT. In the extremely unlikely situation of simultaneous orders, something akin to natural order resolution will be implemented.

A note on balance:

As with all games, I strove for balance in designing all aspects of this game. And as with all games, balance at the start of a game does not guarantee balance at later points in the same game. Decisions players make and the actions they take all affect the balance of a game, and so at times, what was once balanced may not be so.

I think we all know this, but I wanted to make it clear from the start. There are more moving pieces in this game than we've ever seen, and the Butterfly effect cannot be contained.

Public Rules:

The Golden Rule:
This is a game.  Everyone who signs up to play must be considerate of each other, never get personal, and focus on having fun.  Once the game starts, having signed up is a commitment: inactivity is just as inconsiderate as rude comments.


The Standard Rules:
1.  No communication between players outside of the game thread or shared QTs at any time.  This includes passing references, jokes, or cases in other games or threads.
2.  If the game thread is locked, do not post.  If you are unsure if something is locked, ask the mod by PM.
3.  Direct or verbatim quoting of mod-provided information is strictly forbidden.  Paraphrasing is okay.
4.  Actions with instructions that do not specify a game state will be resolved in the order they are received.
5.  All night actions must be submitted within 24 hours of day ending.
6.  Players must post once every 24 hours.
7.  Do not edit or delete posts, ever.  If you need to clarify or correct something, post again.
8.  Invisible text, font size less than 10, and spoiler tags are not allowed.
9.  Cryptography is not allowed.
10.  The time between a lynch being reached and a flip being provided is called twilight.  All players may continue posting during this time, including the lynched player.
11.  Dead players may not post in thread or QT, except their Role QT.  A lynched player is not "dead" until a flip has been provided.

The Voting Rules:
1.  Votes should be in this format: Vote: Playername.  Unambigiuous nicknames are acceptable.
2.  Unvotes should be in this format: unvote or Unvote: Playername.
3.  Unvotes are not required if changing your vote from one player to another.
4.  You may vote: no lynch.
5.  Lynches occur when a simple majority (rounded up) of living players is reached.  Once reached, a lynch cannot be undone.

The Rest:
1.  Bold, maroon text is reserved for the Mod.  Players may not use it.
2.  If you have an issue or problem with the game, please PM the Mod.  Do not post complaints in the game thread.
3.  Mods make mistakes - please point them out gently.  If they can be corrected, they will.  If irreversible, they will stand as final to be commiserated over after the game.
4.  If a mod error disadvantages one faction greatly, the game may be called off.
5.  Post all Mod questions and requests in your Role QT first.  Questions deemed as "universal" (defined as questions for which the answers should be available to all players) will be requested to be re-posted in the Rules Thread and answered there.
6.  There will be no prods.
7.  All rule violations will be dealt with according to their severity, as determined by the mod.

Deadlines:
1.  Day 1 has no deadline.
2.  Day 2 will last twelve IRL days.
3.  Game days after day 2 will last ten IRL days.
4.  Game nights will last two IRL days.

I could trim this down to an 8 player setup, but I really don't want to...I'd need to cut some awesome stuff.

If folks are okay, I think it's best we wait for two more players.  Hopefully it'll be soon, but we're in a bit of a down period for mafia, I think...

I think it's fine to wait.. it's a more complicated and higher-commitment game, so it will just take time to get full.
