Sorry if this has been suggested before; I did't see it in a quick search.

Cage
$3
Action
+1 Card
+1 Action
Discard two identical cards.  If you do, +3 cards.

I feel that the closest comparison to an existing card is Stables.  The best case is a Lab with some (here, a lot of) additional cycling.  It's harder to keep going if you only want to discard junk to it, but really easier as you can discard anything you like.  In large numbers this is probably even closer to Lab than Advisor is (as you have more control), but the first few are probably better than Lab, as you also get to swap out some Coppers or Estates.  So it might be a tricky card to price, although $3 is almost certainly too low.

What am I supposed to discard if I do not have two identical cards?

Very nice idea. It sounds like very strong in the endgame when you happen to have green duplicates. I would price it at $5 if the discarding is optional.
Otherwise, you could go the punishing way:

Cage
$3
Action
+1 Card
+1 Action
Discard two cards. If they share names, +3 cards.

this should cost at least 4 if not 5 because its such a good card when you open with it. for 5 it might be a little weak compared to a standard lab but mybe its fine. Might even get a small bonus if you price it as 5 but at 4 its still to much of a nobrainer the first few turns.
i like the overall idea of the card though :)

I like the card. It's got pretty good potential as a sifter, then the draw (which is kind of anti-Hunting Party, kind of Stables) is pretty decent too. Definitely underpriced at $3 (compare it to Warehouse or even Menagerie to some extent), probably still a bit strong at $4. I think it just squeaks in at being a $5.

I don't think it sounds that amazing to open.  Best case you collide it with 2 Estates and end up with a hand of 5 Copper and your other opening buy (or a sixth Copper, if that's better).  But it could easily miss your other opening buy or draw the third Estate, or cause itself (and the other opening buy) to miss the shuffle, putting your discarded Estates right back into your deck.  If you discard Coppers instead of Estates (more likely), you probably draw back some Estates.  It's way worse with Shelters.  $4 sounds like a fine price to me.  Unlike most non-terminal draw, this card doesn't really improve with trashing.

Edit: accidentally a word

It's a Lab when looking at how many cards you draw, but usually you'll be discarding Coppers, i guess. So you really have to draw at least two Coppers and a card worth about the same as Cage to make this worthwile. Not as easy early on, i may say.

I wonder whether it would be too weak like this:

Cage $4, Action
+1 Action
Discard two cards. If they share names: +4 cards

To make this clear, i'm not 100% certain how much this or your original should cost.

Don't you have to reveal the discarded cards?

Thanks all for the feedback.  I hadn't thought about the disclosure issues with the card (and it's right there in the advice at the top of the forum!) so I think I'll go with a 'Reveal your hand..' style wording.  I'm leaning towards pricing it at $4, because I really want it to be able to combo with Menagerie (hence the name).

Ha, I hadn't gotten that! Very clever.  :)
