If 4/3 both => Big Money?

Hi there,

Do you think on this board both players with a 4/3 start a Big Money strategy involving Pirate Ship will win against an engine approach with Golem/Treasury ?
If one of them gets a 5/2 start and goes for an engine can the 4/3 player still win with a Big Money strategy?

Code: [Select]
Poor House, Navigator, Pirate Ship, Trader, Golem, Harvest, Mandarin, Mine, Treasury, Tribute

If you're not going for an engine you certainly shouldn't be buying Pirate Ship. I think that even BMU is better than BM+Pirate Ship, but in any case BM+Trader is vastly superior to both.

The only deck that would want a Pirate Ship here is a Golem engine playing against some form of Big Money. Had the board been slightly less awkward (say, Trade Route instead of Navigator) I'd probably give it a shot, but here it looks fairly hopeless, though if you go for it you'll need a Trader to trash your Coppers.

Ah thank you for your answer. What does BMU mean? Is it Big Money without actions?

It means Big Money Ultimate and yes, it's big money without Actions.

I thought it stood for BM Unimproved; Ultimate wouldn't make sense as the word connotes something akin to strength, not the complete lack thereof.

Ultimate is supposed to mean "pure" BM; going BM 100% without deviation. Unimproved sounds like a better name to me too though.

I thought Big Money Ultimate was in contrast to Big Money, where you buy Province on 8, Gold on 6, Silver on 3, and nothing else. Big Money Ultimate will buy Duchies when the Province pile is low enough, and will buy Gold over Province if it hits 8 before 6.

I thought Big Money Ultimate was just Big Money optimized by a simulator.

BMU was a name for a simulator big money script and it stuck.
