What if Steward+4 Copper is the same as being able to buy a Cache for $2?

I don't get it.  Call me dense.

I you Steward for +$2 to buy a Gold, the opportunity cost is not trashing 2 Coppers, and a $2 buy. So if you trash 2 Coppers and buy a Cache (for $2), that's basically the same as if you +$2 and buy a Gold.

So I remember a good bit of discussion about what's the best Scout option in that scenario... it sounds like the argument here is that you obviously should take the Gold; because if Cache is balanced at $5, then it should be worth using your otherwise $2 turn to get the equivalent?

Of course, my counter-argument would be that going from 7 coppers to 9 coppers in your deck is not as big of a change as going from 7 coppers to 5 coppers. Percentage-wise, at least.

You're trashing 2 copper then buying the $2 cache, you'll have 7 coppers either way.

You're trashing 2 copper then buying the $2 cache, you'll have 7 coppers either way.

If Cache literally did cost $2, yes. But it doesn't, which means you will be buying some other random $2 (or likely nothing). The comparison then is between buying a Cache under normal circumstances, and buying Gold with Steward + 4 copper.

Coppers aren't all bad, they're better than Scout most of the time.  ;)

I love the Ruined Scout which I believe someone posted earlier:

Ruined Scout - Action

+1 Action.

Reveal the top 4 cards of your deck. Put the revealed Victory cards into your hand. Put the other cards on top of your deck in any order.

Experiment = failed.

Now what happens if I edit it to say the opposite, and then people give me +1s? This seems like a fundamental paradox of forum upvoting.

[based on this :]

Quote from: shMerker
There was another game where I got hit with Marauders a few times early on and then managed to buy two peddlers by playing Necropolis, Abandoned Village, Ruined Library, and Ruined Market.

Yeah, Fortune Teller would certainly be a lot better/funnier. Just a Saboteur has a 60% chance of leaving him with KC/KC/Bridge/Bridge/X for his next turn with which he might very well end the game in his favor with at least two Provinces gone.
