252+ Atk Scolipede Megahorn vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro: 242-288 (61.4 - 73%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
0 SpA Slowbro Psychic vs. 16 HP / 0 SpD Scolipede: 264-312 (99.6 - 117.7%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO

Scolipede is faster, but you still have to back Slowbro, especially if Stealth Rock is up.

Because f.DS does not have enough damage calcs.

He didn't say Megahorn, though. He said Steamroller, which has just over half Megahorn's power. It's more accurate than Megahorn and can flinch, but still.

"Why the fuck did this thread turn into a Pokemon thread" or "what the fuck turned this thread into a pokemon thread".

Either works.
Thanks. I meant the first one.

If it makes you feel any better, werothegreat, Scolipede is one of the two Pokémon I trained in 6th gen before giving up. The other was (Mega) Banette. Then I was all like, "Next I want a Rain Dish Tentacruel. OH WAIT I CAN'T POSSIBLY GET ONE THANKS GAMEFREAK!"

IIRC, I've got a box full of Ferroseed with Leech Seed, Stealth Rock and Spikes, which are basically all the egg moves to care about.  As breeding rejects, they should have 3-4 perfect IVs.

That explains the flinching comment!  I did not know that Steamroller was a move.

I was going to say "WHAAAAAA!?", but then I remembered that Steamroller is a super uncommon move. Only the Venipede line and Golem can learn it. So it's completely reasonable for you not to have encountered it.

What other egg moves matter on Ferroseed?  Gravity?  Worry Seed?

I also haven't played cartridge games since RSE.  (I played 200 on the RSBots!)

Well, I would admit that I'm not an expert on even the current official Doubles game, but yeah, Ferrothorn seems like a decent Gravity user. Acid Spray is a nice, un-Tauntable debuff-plus-sash-killer. Worry Seed is very niche, but also a possibility.

My understanding was that Gravity is not a popular field effect at all, and I question the use of a SpAtk on Ferrothorn.  But I don't know, I guess Doubles is a funky place.

I have seen Gravity do some impressive stuff. Its advertised effect is bringing down fliers, but the real game-changer is that it makes all moves (except 1HKO moves) 2/3 more likely to hit. So e.g. Zap Cannon becomes ≈83% accurate. If you build your team around that, it can be pretty effective.

The point of Acid Spray isn't to do damage, so it's not like I'm advocating putting SpAtk EVs into Ferrothorn. It's just nice to have as a support move that can't be disabled with Taunt. If you're running a Trick Room team and your opponent resists Gyro Ball, you can have Ferrothorn use Acid Splash and then follow up with a special attack from its partner. Maybe it's never worthwhile, but it does reduce SpDef 2 levels, which is pretty harsh.

I know what Gravity does and it's always interested me, but I thought that it just never really worked out to be effective in any meta.  Like, there would be the rare team that pulled it off, but it was never good enough to get wide play like trick room or weather teams.  I really want to see a pokemon with a Gravity-inducing ability.

Gravity does stack with those other effects, so it's not necessarily an either/or thing. I have never made a Gravity team myself, but I have played against a couple (in Doubles) and they weren't total jokes.

I really want to see a pokemon with a Gravity-inducing ability.

That would be cool.

Anyway, we should probably move this to the Pokémon topic if we're going to continue it.

Ha ha! Yes. Yes I do. Man, it's amazing how far the game has come since then.
