Am I the only one who didn't realize that when I first saw the card?

Wrong. This is not the case when you've drawn your deck.

[/edgecase]
Also, there may be a card in Guilds like:

Awesome silver
Treasure - 4
Worth 2$
---
When you reveal or discard this (other than during your clean-up phase), put it into your hand.

If there is, it would cost at least $5.

You are right. I didn't realize that this card would make Scout and Spy even more OP!

What happens when you have Militia and your opponent has this? What if he has five of these?

Endless loop. Crashes the universe.

If you had four cards and discarded awesome silver, would the loop stop? You technically have 3 cards for a moment before you put awesome silver back in your hand... Anyway, awesome silver needs a "may" in its reaction text.

I think "discard down to 3" only happens once. "Discard cards until you have three cards in hand" on the other hand...

The reason is because it is a Silver+ card. For design reasons, these have to be $5. There is discussion on it in the fan cards subforum. I think it is in the stickied design guide. Also it may have been discussed by Donald somewhere in the Secret Histories.

Alternatively there could be a Guilds card that is a downgraded but somewhat DA-friendly gold.

Fragile Cargo
Treasure-5
worth 3$
---
When you reveal or discard this (other than during your clean-up phase), trash it.

[edit] That's still too strong for a 5-cost gold. There would need to be some additional limitation that applies regardless of the kingdom, like an inability to purchase treasure cards or something else that is not at all like Quarry.

As it stands now though, if you guessed incorrectly with a Mystic, the top card that was revealed is still on top and so you now know for certain what the top card is(at least you do if you were paying attention of you have the goko log). What you do after that is up to you.

It's kinda cool that Mystic can get its extra benefit from a few cards that Wishing Well can't get its extra benefit from such as Lookout, or possibly Spy and Iron Monger.

Wharf, Goons, and Squire on the board... I think discarding Market Square to gain Golds is a bad move here. You just want engine pieces, not treasure.

To all the edge-casers:

-Yes, he knows that, because of a failed Bureaucrat.
-No, he doesn't win the game with this.
-No, he doesn't buy a Colony.

Ok, now it's your turn ;-)

Opponent is in a hurry and would have to resign if it wasn't for Steve ending the game on piles, because his Colony-piledriving trick takes up so much time to play out.

You played Possession on your turn, your opponent sees this and says gg, you need to skedaddle, and you are not playing a game that will affect your ranking on Iso or Goko.

Edge cases are easy to construct when it doesn't matter if you're making a good move or not!

Edge case: I felt like it.

You know what I always say: "If it feels good, do it."

If he knows he is going to lose, what's so bad about ending the game early instead of sitting through the other guys turn? Especially if you aren't playing with the point counter and he doesn't know for sure who will win if he three piles, its most certainly the right move to make.
