Fair might be the only +Buy on the entire board though...  I can see it being worse than City Gate in other cases.  Flag might not be worth fighting over; if there's no trashing, it's sort of self-defeating.

It's not like he's saying Border Guard is below Duchess and Pearl Diver...

My combine harvester broke the other day and I couldn't sow my wheat seeds.  So I went to the beach and tied up a crustacean.

Because lashing a crab is like planting a grain.

lashing = trashing, crab = lab, grain = gain, planting = ?
card (borrowing the "ing" from "gaining").  I guess that doesn't rhyme at all in an American accent.  It's a partial rhyme in many British accents.

I still don't get it. How does "plant" become "card"?

You process the fibers into paper using industrial technology.  This can get pretty sophisticated, since even minor differences between printings would be pretty easy to detect and give away the counterfeit nature of the decoy.

It rhymes. Vaguely.
In home counties British, plant is pronounced p-lar-nt. Which is similar to card.
It's not like there's a rule that you only have to change one letter.
Vague soundalike was good enough for me. In my defence I was extremely tired at the time and I find things very funny for no reason when I'm tired.
I laughed uncontrollably for a good 5 minutes at the gaining a lad one.

I did listen to the BBC for a while, and they did kind of pronounce "China" like it almost had an "r" at the end.

There's also that time that I made a joke that depends deeply on how you pronounce "cantrip" and a linguistics fight broke out.  I'm not sure I've been forgiven for that yet.

Or "make it sore."

Ok, that's not British, I'm just adding R to everything now.

Wait, is this why we're all talking about Harbinger lately?  Was it habinge the whole time?  This is going to bother me.
