(I forgot that Messenger was on the board, so I could've ended before the big freeze if I'd taken some double-Province turns. But yeah, froze for realz. Discard 2 cards or not such a hard decision because so many Throne Rooms or something...)

He's not trying to decide whether or not to discard 2 cards... he's trying to figure out HOW he can discard 2 cards when he has 0 cards in hand, because you played a 6th Vault on the turn.

It's somewhat inaccurate though, because Patrol is actually equivalent to playing a Hunting Grounds and a Scout, not a Smithy and a Scout.

But you can't exactly play Hunting Grounds and then Scout with one action, either. So it's more like Village-Hunting Grounds-Scout-Ruined Library.
