First time in this thread, trying to start making memes...

From base Dominion engine, pity Bad Luck Brian...

why did he play the smithy? I'd usually just pass the turn.

Well if he's already drawn all of his smithies this shuffle, he'd probably like to cause a reshuffle sooner. Of course drawing 3 villages doesn't do that, but he didn't know he was going to draw all villages.

Yep.  He could have drawn Treasures, and then the Villages could have caused a reshuffle on his next turn in which he drew a Smithy.  But it's also true that drawing a bunch of terminals is likely to lead to drawing useless Villages.  If he doesn't play a Smithy, then his Villages will just cycle themselves next turn anyway, so it's not like he has much left to lose.  But that chance to draw a Treasure or at least an Estate does make playing a Smithy have some average benefit overall.

You realize there's no way you are going to get any respect for that post, right? Why bother posting it?

True, I think Bad Luck Brian keeps track of his deck carefully (to avoid his bad luck as much as possible) and knows that he's still got three villages, some treasures and some estates left. He'd like to cycle his deck fast to speed up the engine running. Drawing just 3-4 still allows him to buy a piece of engine components but pity him since he's Bad Luck Brian...

Not necessarily.  GADG could have played the pin just to be a jerk.

Scumbag Steve would play the pin in a 3-player game.

The thing about the pin is, well, you can always just resign as soon as it's set up.....

yeah. I would be happy to see the pin in a kingdom, because that would be a fun game to play. It just adds another win condition, something that happens a lot in dominion. Sometimes you win a game of Dominion by getting the most provinces. Sometimes it's the most colonies. Sometimes it's the most of whatever alternate VP is on the board. Sometimes it's VP chips. And rarely, with the right combination of cards, it's to set up a pin. The only difference with the pin is that the player hit by it no longer has any fun playing the game. Well, I'd say that in a normal game a player has no fun playing the game once the opponent has gathered over half the VP in the kingdom, and so they would resign.

Sorry if I use wrong picture :(
By the way, I've never encountered the pinner, have just read in f.ds articles. I think it takes several turns to set this up (buy silver(s) + Masquerade + Another trasher + Get Goon + 2 KCs+ Trash other cards) and some rushes can beat that. Sorry too if I were wrong.

I'd find a way to lose before I got those 4 cards in one hand.

But if there is a faster strategy, choosing the pin instead would have made him BADG.

Speed isn't the only factor.  It may have been the pin is more reliable.

I've done some testing, you don't need another trasher.  Just open silver/masquerade, get maybe another silver, get a goons, maybe a gold, two KCs, then start playing masquerade (or, KC+masquerade) and trash everything else.

Another trasher helps for sure, as does other engine support, but I would guess that you can still pull of the pin with just those three cards as sudgy described before the game ends from workshop/gardens almost every single time.

Well one counter to the pin is the card itself......
