Wandering Minstrel, draw/discard mechanics

Hello everyone, I play alot of Dominion with my office mate and today we had a disagreement on a draw/discard mechanics and we need a third person opinion to resolve it. So, here is the hypothetical situation: small deck with alot of Wandering Minstrels. My office mate believes that the cards discarded by "not an action" mechanic of the Wandering Minstrel should be kept in a "separate" discard pile and you should not be able to get to them during the same turn even if you have enough +card. I believe that the cards discarded should go into the normal discard pile and if you have enough draw power there is nothing stopping you from getting them.

They go to your regular discard pile (you have only one) and you can draw them just as you can draw other cards after reshuffling.

yea. your office mate has some strange ideas here. there is no card in dominion that uses a secondary discard pile. there is only an exile, and that only applies if the cards are "set aside" somewhere.

There's also the nebulous "cards being revealed" area, which is never mentioned but is necessary for resolving some effects. For example, if you play Doctor and name Rats, the card you draw when you trash a Rats isn't one of the ones being revealed (even though they're about to be put back on top of your deck), but rather whatever was fourth from the top when you played Doctor.

Well, there sort of is, for revealed cards if you play something like Golem for example. Of course it's not a discard pile, but maybe this is the background of OP's question.

The answers above are right.

Perhaps your friend is getting confused because of library? Actions set aside with library cannot be drawn with the same library play (they are only placed in your discard at the end of resolving the action).

When you're resolving a Wandering Minstrel, you're revealing three cards. These cards are set aside as you're revealing them. This means that if you have to shuffle to reveal three cards, you don't shuffle in the set-aside cards. For instance, if your deck has only two cards in it, you reveal those two, then shuffle in order to reveal the third one, not shuffling in the two revealed cards. Maybe this is where your friend's confusion stems from.

When you've revealed the three cards, you discard to your discard pile as normal. So by the time you play your next Wandering Minstrel, there are no cards set-aside.
