Before Prince, permanents felt like the biggest omission mechanics-wise in Dominion, so I wouldn't have been surprised for a new expansion to introduce them. But Prince more-or-less covers anything a permanent could reasonably do, so I expect we won't see permanents in the new expansion.

Because this is an expansion and not a spin-off, I doubt that we'll see anything drastic like a board or combat system. So I dunno really what this expansion can have as a theme that will feel new. Action/card/buy tokens? Or maybe it won't have a unified theme and just be a collection of interesting cards, which would be fine by me.

The idea got dumped in favor of the new expansion. I mean, I brought the Enterprise cards too because why not, but I also brought my copy of the playtest set, and I was not going to push playtesting some fan cards in the face of a new official expansion.

As it turns out my family was only there for a few hours, so my wife and I each got one game of Dominion in while the other watched our son. Luckily for everyone involved, other people also had copies of the set there.

The people who were only at the meetup actually know very little at this point, and they definitely don't know the title.  So rejoice! It's just us testers hoarding knowledge.  Believe me, I want to share it more than I want to hide it, but them's the breaks.  All I'll tell you is that the expansion is gonna be great and worth the wait.

It's just the playtesters (last footnote, jsh, others) who know much about the set. I played like 3 games with maybe 15 total cards in the state that they were in on paper cutouts 3 months ago. I (along with most attendees of the meetup) don't know anything for sure about the set besides the sort of cards/concepts that may be introduced. It wasn't even certain that it would be published at the time, and I doubt that the set is anywhere near finalized still.

My biggest regret about playtesting is that I won't be surprised about the previews. For Hinterlands, Dark Ages, and Guilds, that was like Christmas morning five days in a row. Those of you who don't yet have the set spoiled for them, enjoy it!

Sure, but the important part is that we know that there actually will be an expansion! That's all that matters. And personally I like how the dominion expansions are spread out over many years, it lets us enjoy them more. If they had all been released in 2008 we might not still be talking about dominion anymore.

I needed some playtesters. The old playtesters had scattered to the four winds. I did let them know about this amazing opportunity but many of them had their own lives now.

I wanted people who could playtest irl. So, they had to have Dominion and be that kind of person. And I wanted players who were good. And I didn't want to say, "so, who here is good and has the physical game?" It was obv. going to stay a secret until Jay announced it.

There was a recent thread for a tournament, where I could see how people did. And there was the Chicago meet-up thread, with some people saying, yes I'm coming and bringing Dominion. So I looked at who had done well in the tournament, who also could bring Dominion to Chicago. And I invited some of them to playtest.

Later, Doug programmed the set into isotropic (sorry, not trying to taunt anyone), so I also invited some players who were just good, who might have no ability to playtest irl. But for the first group, you somehow had to be willing to go to Chicago. It was just the data I had.

I don't know yet if Jay will want it to come out on MakingFun at the same time as irl, or not. It will be up to him mostly, MakingFun are pretty likely to want it as soon as they can have it. The main reason Jay might not give it to them in time is that he sometimes is worried about leaks.

Shoot. I did uncharacteristically well in GokoDom, but I couldn't go to the Chicago meetup. Ah well, I would've been a terrible playtester anyway, since I haven't had time to play IRL (or online, for that matter) in ages.

I wasn't in that GokoDom, and was lucky enough to be grandfathered in through my playtesting of Prince. My main contribution has been complaining loudly and frequently about things I don't like. And sometimes suggesting changes. Oh, and creating card images that look like published Dominion cards, rather than like the prototypes you see in the Outtakes file.

As it turns out, I am no slouch at the game after all, and have been at least holding my own against some of the heavy hitters, like hey Mic Qsenoch (in case you were wondering when the hell he and I would have played a game together such that we were using my randomizer).

We did not "get" a test set of cards. We printed them, cut them, and sleeved them over actual Dominion cards. It was very ink-intensive, especially when using official-looking card images.

It wasn't the meetup itself that got the test set. Some of us who had the set (myself, jsh357, AdamH) went to the meetup and brought our copies.

One thing I recommend is making the background colour of the box not like one of the ones already released. We still use the original boxes and it does mean I occasionally grab prosperity instead of hinterlands or base box instead of intrigue.....

I have to be honest with you, I was one of the people who whined the most about Goko when we lost Iso -- maybe not here but I was really butt-hurt about it.

When I played on Iso for the first time doing this, I was really surprised at the way I felt about it. While playing, and for about a day after, I was filled with a lot of emotions, not too different from reconnecting with someone I used to date. There was an overwhelming amount of happiness, sadness, lots of different things going on.

I know I may come off as emotional on a lot of my videos, but I don't actually feel most of the emotions you see, I haven't really been all that emotional of a person for several years now. Playing on Iso really stirred up a lot more than I was expecting, and a lot more than I thought I was capable of feeling.

And here's the strange thing, it wasn't all good. I mean, I had some really good times on Iso -- that's where I grew as a Dominion player to where I am now. It was so cool seeing the Dark Ages and Guilds cards on there, and watching newer cards change ALL the time.

But I've gotten really used to Goko and if I had to pick between Goko in its current state (including extension) and Iso, it's not a difficult choice for me: I'd rather play on Goko.

The pace may be slower, but I really don't mind that. It's so much better at allowing me to follow what my opponent is doing -- I don't have to add up to see how many actions, buys, and dollars they had at the end of their turn, which is super-useful. I don't have to click on the info button and look through a lot of information to see something that I can either see already from the main screen or can see relatively clearly from just one click on Goko. And you may not believe it, but there are misclicks that happen on Iso that just don't happen on Goko (though I have to admit I needed to change my pants the first time I got to use the undo playing basic treasures feature again).

On the other hand, you should have seen me the night I got that message from DXV asking me to playtest. I was hosting a board game night at my house and I'm in the middle of a game of Resistance when I see it on my phone. Everyone is like "Adam, it's your turn, what are you going to do?" and I'm sitting there holding my phone in front of my face, with my mouth just hanging open like an idiot. I was squeeing so hard I literally couldn't speak. I'm smiling like an idiot as I type this just thinking about it, and that was several months ago.

Adam is 100% correct. I think it's fantastic that we had isotropic for testing the new set, and a million thanks to dougz for that. But as far as play experience goes, Goko (with the extension) beats it hands-down. As Adam said, it's worlds easier to track what your opponent is doing. And more than that, I find I have a much better feel for what's in my own deck on Goko than I do on iso.

Goko was really bad when it was first released. Way worse than what we were used to with iso. But current-day Goko with Salvager available is generally superior. Take it from some dudes who have used both really recently.

Thirding their sentiments.  I love iso, and it definitely has its advantages, but it's WAY harder to keep track of what's going on, which is somewhat of a big deal, especially with new cards that may do things you aren't expecting.  We should be grateful for what we have at this point.

At that point, we can begin putting it all together and offering translation files to those partners who are interested. Yes. Except Base and Intrigue kind of had 291? Since the basic cards take up 209 out of 500 cards.

I just realized that we can measure the approximate release date in terms of Dominion League seasons. 4-5 seasons for the name of the expansion? 7-9 seasons for the previews? Somehow, it makes the wait sting less.

Also, of note, Jay says they may at some point in the future change base and intrigue to have the new base cards with arts. Also, they are planning on selling a package of coin tokens for those of us who want more tokens.

He also said that he put all remaining working card ideas into Dark Ages ;-) I hope he's still found something new and interesting - it's unlikely that all new cards use a new mechanic, no expansion has ever done this...

Yeah you're absolutely right, it's Cornucopia and Alchemy. Oh, and I didn't want to complain about pricing but when they were at Hans im Glück, large sets were around 25-30 € (Dark Ages was a bit more expensive, 30-35€), small sets were around 18-25€.
I think I got my Guilds with discount for 23€, though

I forgot about the randomizers.  Still, Kingdom would be >33, which is huge.  I fully expect there to be a couple extras (i.e. non-Kingdom piles), which could be quite large piles potentially.  I would bank on 25-30 Kingdom cards, which still easily qualifies as "a large one".

But it's awkward to have the larger coin symbols when you hold several cards, since they're larger than the kingdom Treasures' corner symbols, and not quite at the upper corner. Unless you sort your hand cards with only the upper left corner visible...
And the VP amounts have no business in the upper half of the card (nor in the bottom line, for that matter), you don't need to see them when stacking your hand cards. 

So I agree with Rubby (no matter the German/English difference). They should have made the base cards' design consistent with the kingdom cards (see Harem) - or, if they insisted on full-size images, at least superimpose the large (at least Harem-sized) coin/VP amount over the image at the "right position", which is the center or the middle of the lower half of the card, not the upper corner or the bottom line.
Also, the coins' images are too "crowded" and too obstrusive for my taste. The VP/Curse images are beautiful and inconspicuous enough, though...
