I finished Luke cage last night and thought it was alright but really wished they had paced things out better. I was really really enjoying the show up untill mariah Dillard killed cottonmouth . After that the show seemed to stumble and never really get going. I blame it on diamondback being a villain with no motive. I would have loved to know what he framed Luke for in the first place, how he became a drug lord, what his connection to shades was. But instead all we got was the obvious reveal he was Luke's brother, him mindlessly killing a bunch of drug lords we never knew or cared about, the Judas bullets which served no purpose other than to force Luke back to the doctor to find out his ex-wife lied to him about everything, and then a super suit that apparently mimics Luke's skin so they could end the show in a boxing match. So overall meh.

Maybe time to start the leftovers or finally get around to watching fringe. The only other shows on my watch list currently are iron fist, prison break season 5, and a lost re-watch.

I'd say Iron Fist, then Fringe from that list.  I really love Fringe, but Iron Fist will make you happier about the Defenders coming this year.

Fringe is pretty fun I'd recommend that. (And I disagree with Ashersky about Iron Fist, I'd even consider just skipping it and still watching Defenders, but that might break the show.)

I know a lot of folks panned Iron Fist, but I really liked it (as I think I wrote earlier in this thread).  Mostly because the supporting cast was so good (Danny isn't).

The Leftovers is just a must watch.

Also great: Legion, Fargo, Taboo, Better Call Saul.

The Expanse is definitely worth watching as well.

And of course, Twin Peaks.

Seconded! Fringe is also great, but I would watch The Leftovers first, it's much shorter.

If you do watch Fringe, you should actually skip the pilot and significant chunks of the first season, there are some mediocre episodes that have nothing to do with the main plot, it isn't until the end of season 1 that the show really kicks into high gear.

Start with 1.4 "The Arrival," and then skip to 1.14 "Ability," 1.15 "Inner Child," 1.17 "Bad Dreams," 1.19 "The Road Not Taken," and the season finale "There's More Than One of Everything."

For season 2, watch 2.1. "New Day in the Old Town, " 2.4 "Momentum Deferred," 2.6 "Earthling," 2.8 "August," 2.10 "Grey Matters,"  2.15 "Jacksonville," and then... everything after that. Starting with Jacksonville, every episode is essential.

Episode 1 of the leftovers is finished, when's the "I'm hooked" episode? Lost takes pilot part 1/2 and episode 2 then your in. I am expecting a similar timeline for this.

I was hooked by the first episode.  I'm not sure how others feel.. it's definitely very slow, so you have to be prepared for that.  In the first season, my favorites were episodes 3, 6, and 9.

Keep at it! Nah, I think Lost's hook episode is "Walkabout," which is hour four. The John Locke equivalent character in Leftovers, Rev. Matt Jamison, has his big episode in hour three.

Let me be clear I'm in already, it's the wife who was feeling a little bit "why do I care about these people", I'm sure as we develop the characters she will get into it.

I watched two episodes of Lost a few years back and never got around to watching more. I wasn't hating it by any means, but stopped seeing the girl I was watching it with and apparently wasn't invested enough to keep going. I feel I should watch it just so I could bombard Robz with questions and thoughts about it.

I'm going to finally watch The Leftovers as well once I'm done rewatching The Wire. Unless I just hop straight back to the wire from the beginning again, which I might. It's so good.

It's all about the massive emotional pay offs at the ends of the seasons... makes all the crippling depression of the Guilty Remnant worth it in the end.

I liked the twist on that episode. It's incredibly bombastic and outrageous, but that's typical of the show. In fact, that's its charm.

You know, just in case someone in the audience accidentally felt sympathy for Rick.

Waiting for a Rick and Morty take on Paycheck (or as Doctor Who called it, Time Heist).

Looking for something new to get into if anyone has any recs.

Either drama/action/scifi or comedy, but for the former I much prefer stuff where you can trust that the writers know where they're going and won't let the show devolve into absurd nonsense (i.e. Breaking Bad/GoT good, House of Cards/Homeland bad).

Well, I was going to nominate Better Call Saul, but since you mentioned Breaking Bad, you probably already know that one.

I've been enjoying Preacher, but I cannot say with certainty that it won't devolve into something absurd. The storyline is absurd, but that's different. It is based on pre-existing source material, so that may be in its favor.

I rather enjoyed the first season of the Expanse, but I haven't seen the second season. No guarantees it won't get bad.

Second season of Expanse is quite good.

Preacher is great.  Legion was great (1 season so far).  Fargo as well.  The Leftovers if you haven't seen it.  Rick and Morty.

Twin Peaks is of course amazing.

For 'fun' SciFi you can check out Dark Matter.  It's not 'good' per se, but it's entertaining.

Edit: Also, regarding The Expanse, I've been reading all the books, which are pretty good.  The show has done well so far representing them, I think.  There's also quite a bit of decent material for future seasons.

Curious what people thought of Fargo. I loved the first and third season, but absolutely hated the second. Most people seemed to really like the second one, though.

I've liked all of them.  Second was actually the first one I watched, and I went back and watched Season 1 after.

I liked first most, second was bad so I haven't watched third. Should I?

Yes! I'm totally with you, I HATED the second so much that I didn't even want to watch the third. But the third was much better, probably even better than the first. You should give it a shot. It's a little slow in the first two hours but hour three, the California episode, is fantastic and then everything is pretty enthralling.
