Dune Mafia Game Thread - Evil Allies Win
« on: September 02, 2014, 06:35:33 pm »

I am quite sure historians will focus on Paul's story that night,
and the days that followed.  I cannot blame them, given his impact
on the future.  But he was not the only one with an adventure on Dune.

--excerpt from
Memories of Arrakis, by the Lost Duke Ashersky Atreides

The surprise attack on Arrakeen came swiftly, and no one was spared.  The focus was on the great hall of the Atreides, but as is often the case with violence, there was no discrimination in choosing targets.  The sounds and smells were the most vivid; smoke, smoke everywhere, and screams.

In the house of the Atreides, where the fighting was thickest, a bloody battle raged near the thopter bay.  Clearly lost, a few bolted for the last remaining thopter, attempting an escape into the night.  It took heavy fire on the way out into the dark desert sky.

Billowing black smoke and tilted heavily to starboard, the thopter flew west.  It wouldn't make it far, though, and soon crashed into the ground near the base of the Shield Wall.

Nine people survived.  As they ran for the cover of the rocks, they each grabbed a pack from the smoking heap of the crash.  As the sounds of battle continued like a lullaby, they each found a place to lay low and wait for the light of day...

The wind shrieked every so often, cutting between the rocks.  On any other planet, it would have sounded like winter; here, heat has a higher pitched voice.

The ground was hard, harder than it ought to have been.  The sand held so much heat, and it was everywhere, even in on the rocky floor of the Shield Wall...

Man. I had four strips of bacon yesterday. Was one automatically undercooked, one automatically overcooked? No, let's put a stop to that right here, all four strips were excellent.

The survivors stole glances at each other, unsure of anyone else, unclear what was to happen when the sun rose.

The Atreides have always been known as trustworthy, yet
our enemies continued through the millenia attempts to turn us
against our people, or vice versa.  Other than Yueh,
it has always failed.  As far as everyone knows, anyway.

--excerpt from
The Oral History of the Atreides as spoken by Reverend Mother Ozle

On most planets, the sun rises slowly.  Dawn breaks.  Not on Dune.  A stuffy hot night became a blazing inferno of day in a split second.  The crash survivors gathered quickly in what little shade they could find.

They said little to each other, unsure what to do.

"Here, put these on," a cracked voice said from within the group.  "You'll need them if even one of you is to survive."  An old woman, with fierce blue-on-blue eyes, pointed to a pile of black garments, stillsuits.  "I rounded them up during the night.  Most are still in good working condition, though not all of them are perfect.  Seems we weren't the only ones trying to escape the city.  We may be the only ones alive, though."

As the rest of the party grabbed the stillsuits and hastily put them on, the woman continued.  "I am AndrewisFTTW, a Fremen Waterkeeper of Seitch Tabr.  I suspect none of you waterfat visitors to Dune will live much longer.  Shai-halud save us."

"We cannot stay here.  It is not safe.  From here, we can strike out for Seitch Tabr, or return to the city of Arrakeen.  Decide quickly."

The sun has risen.  It is the First Day.

The party must attempt to reach Seitch Tabr or return to Arrakeen.  You have 24 hours to decide.  The Waterkeeper will speak for the group.

I guess we don't have a playerlist for this ? So far we've got Andrew (IC), mail-mi, yuma, myslef and... other people ?

Going to Seitch Tabr seems much better than Arrakeen at first glance.

So excited for this !

Hmmm... I guess I can go ahead and make the decision to travel to seitch tabr unless anyone else objects.

obviously we should go to Seitch Tabr

Why is this obvious? Maybe there's something we can gain from going back?

So mail-mi and mcmc's votes don't count. Weird.

What I meant yuma was yes, there was a battle but maybe something can be salvaged or something like that.

Well because of this...

Town will be known as Seitch or Seitch-aligned in this game.

I think we should head to the place that is townie as opposed to go back to the place that we were just attacked from. Plus heading to a Seitch is the natural progression of the book.

But most importantly it will get us closer to one of these!!!

If I don't get to ride a worm at some point in this game I am going to be sorely disappointed... and heading toward a Seitch I think will increase that chances as opposed to heading back to the boring, water-glutinous city
