Game 1: http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20140903/log.505cc11ea2e6483e027bc556.1409771469806.txt

Code: [Select]
Hermit, Bishop, Ironmonger, Marauder, Governor, Harvest, Mine, Stash, Witch, Nobles
We both open 5/2 and open Witch/-. Maybe Witch is ignorable because of Hermit, but I'm not sure about that. Mr Anderson gets another $2 hand and then gets a second Witch. I buy Hermit and Governor instead. Mr Anderson then gets Hermit and I get my second Governor. I then grabbed Ironmongers and in turn 10 I started piling the Nobles while Mr Anderson now started getting Governors. In turn 15 Mr Anderson started getting Provinces and I followed suit in turn 17 with 1 Nobles left in the supply. In turn 17 Mr Anderson didn't hit Province, but we all did on the following turns which gave me the win, both with 1 Curse left in the deck. In handsight I liked my Nobles over more Governors, but I'm still not sure if it was the right choice.

Game 2: http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20140903/log.505cc11ea2e6483e027bc556.1409772131157.txt

Code: [Select]
Embargo, Develop, Bureaucrat, Horse Traders, JackOfAllTrades, Bandit Camp, Embassy, Knights, Wharf, Farmland
We both open Jack/Silver and go heavily for Wharves. After we both had 3 Wharves, we both get Bandit Camp. Mr Anderson has a slightly better deck though as he has a Gold while I didn't. I then get a 4th Wharf, but Mr Anderson already decides to green and again I had to follow suit. We both buy 3 Provinces, then Mr Anderson has to go for double Duchy while I go for Double Farmland (trashing Jack) + Duchy. Then he can only single Duchy while I can get double Duchy. Then the Duchies ran out and I had to go for Dame Josephine. In turn 17 Mr Anderson decides to go for the Province. I can only double Estate to his single Estate and then I hit $5 with Farmland in hand, $1 short winning the game. Mr Anderson then hits $7 with Farmland in hand and wins.

Game 3: http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20140903/log.505cc11ea2e6483e027bc556.1409773047796.txt

Code: [Select]
Apothecary, Fortune Teller, Bishop, Rats, Trader, Walled Village, Catacombs, Upgrade, Fairgrounds, King's Court
I open Potion/Fortune Teller (on a Shelters board) to his Rats/Silver. My Potion misses the shuffle and I feel way behind. But Mr Anderson goes for the Bishop/Rats thing while I try to get Apothecaries to spike King's Courts and build the engine here. In turn 11 I buy my 3rd King's Court with 2 Apothecaries, a Catacombs, a Fortune Teller and a couple of Villages in my deck. Mr Anderson has 3 Bishops and a bunch of Rats in his deck. I then decide to green and hit Provinces pretty regularly, having perfect draws. I only missed Province twice while Mr Anderson tries to catch up buying Duchies, but the points lead is too big.

Game 4: http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20140903/log.505cc11ea2e6483e027bc556.1409773816871.txt

Code: [Select]
Vineyard, Hermit, Lookout, Familiar, Moneylender, Wandering Minstrel, Highway, Trading Post, Goons, Expand
Mr Anderson has a terrible 5/2 here, but goes for Highway instead of Trading Post for the much needed trashing. I open Lookout/Moneylender and ignore Familiar here. I can trash pretty fast and get 2 Goons and then get Highways and Minstrels. I get double Goons in play a couple of times and have a decent point lead and a much thinner deck. Minstrels and Highways were running out pretty fast and in turn 12 I buy a Potion to get Vineyards. But I never got the Potion in hand. Mr Anderson opens the door by getting more Goons so that I can pile Goons for the win in the following turn.

Game 5: http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20140903/log.505cc11ea2e6483e027bc556.1409774156403.txt

Code: [Select]
Vineyard, Poor House, Moat, Secret Chamber, Vagrant, Philosopher's Stone, Thief, Rabble, Royal Seal, Tactician
Simple Rabble Big Money board. I hit $7 like 10 times and get tons of Gold instead. Mr Anderson opens the door for a tie and I gladly take it.

Game 6: http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20140903/log.505cc11ea2e6483e027bc556.1409774785185.txt

Code: [Select]
Moat, Stonemason, Loan, Smugglers, Ironmonger, Remodel, Festival, Haggler, Grand Market, Possession
I have 5/2 and I'm not really happy about it. I open Moat/Haggler because Moat is the only source of draw here and I want it eventually. Mr Anderson opens Ironmonger/Smugglers. We both go heavily for Ironmongers. I haggle also a Smugglers later and buy a Loan which Mr Anderson smuggles from me. Mr Anderson wins the Ironmonger split pretty big 7/3. He also stonemasons into 2 Grand Markets. In turn 8 I then haggle a Potion for Possession. In turn 9 I immediately draw the Potion and buy Possession (missing and ignoring Stonemason into 2 Possessions). In turn 11 Mr Anderson stonemasons into 2 Possessions himself. In turn 12 then I get Possession #2 and #3. Then Festivals ran out and Moats were pretty low. I buy 2 Estates, but Mr Anderson gets finally a pretty big turn and can pile the Estates for the win.

Here is the twitch highlight of the broadcast. I cut out some of the non match footage at the start, and it won't disappear like the past broadcast will.

Game 1: http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20140908/log.5182cd42e4b05e4ebc88aeed.1410199788159.txt

Code: [Select]
Beggar, Herbalist, Moat, Oracle, Urchin, Familiar, Spy, Wandering Minstrel, Grand Market, Expand
silverspawn has a terrible 5/2 on this Urchin board. Nonetheless he gets both his Mercenaries faster than me. I pick up a Moat to defend against his Mercenary which ended up really important. We buy Wandering Minstrels and somehow I can trash faster than him. He resigns after I got 2 Grand Markets.

Game 2: http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20140908/log.5182cd42e4b05e4ebc88aeed.1410200502370.txt

Code: [Select]
Fishing Village, Steward, Fortress, Nomad Camp, Salvager, Walled Village, Graverobber, Merchant Guild, Merchant Ship, Outpost
Now I have a terrible 5/2 and I have no clue what to open with. I decided to get a Merchant Ship what was the worst possible option as Merchant Guild, Steward or Salvager would have been all better. Of course he can trash down faster and gets multi-Merchant Guild turns while I still trash down. No chance for me here.

Game 3: http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20140908/log.5182cd42e4b05e4ebc88aeed.1410201269578.txt

Code: [Select]
Crossroads, Pawn, Bureaucrat, Farming Village, Horse Traders, Monument, Butcher, Horn of Plenty, Mint, Trading Post
For me this is totally a Big Money game with Monument and Butcher. I open Monument/Silver and get 2 Butchers later. silverspawn has a 5/2 here and says "yolo" and opens Mint/Pawn. In turn 6 he gets a Butcher, in turn 8 he turns his Mint into his second Butcher and gets a Gold in turn 9. I can already buy Provinces in turn 9-11 and with 3 Estates and 3 VP token more have a 12VP lead he is not able to catch up.

Game 4: http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20140908/log.5182cd42e4b05e4ebc88aeed.1410201882044.txt

Code: [Select]
Candlestick Maker, Ambassador, Chancellor, Storeroom, Bridge, Monument, Apprentice, Band of Misfits, Venture, Bank
He opens Double Ambassador to my Ambassador/Silver, but I get my second Ambassador in the next shuffle. We both get CSMs, Ventures and Banks. As we basically mirror each other, he must have gotten better draws as he starts greening before me and can maintain the lead until the end.

Game 5: http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20140908/log.5182cd42e4b05e4ebc88aeed.1410203011378.txt

Code: [Select]
Pawn, Menagerie, Scheme, Feodum, Gardens, Ironworks, Throne Room, Outpost, Vault, Nobles
This is the most interesting game of this series. I didn't think the engine here is viable without trashing and go for Ironworks/Gardens while silverspawn goes for the engine. I concentrate in getting more Ironworks in a non-mirror and can threaten the piles really fast. But his engine starts to kick in as he has tons of Throne Rooms and Menageries and some Schemes and Vaults. In turn 12 he gets Province/Outpost. In my turn 13 I have $4 and 2 buys. With 2 Pawns and 1 Gardens left I somehow go for double Pawn instead of Gardens/Copper. silverspawn gets Province/Duchy/Estate and in his Outpost turn he ironworks the last Gardens and buys a Province and wins by 2 points. If I would have gone for Gardens/Copper I would have won. This is an interesting game where both the engine and the rush seem viable.

Game 6: http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20140908/log.5182cd42e4b05e4ebc88aeed.1410203869131.txt

Code: [Select]
Swindler, Mining Village, Moneylender, Salvager, Catacombs, Stables, Stash, Harem, Possession, King's Court
KC-Possession board. I open Moneylender/Swindler to his Salvager/Silver. My opening buys collide every time. silverspawn gets a Swindler on his next shuffle and gets an early KC. He then gets Stables and a second Swindler and gets his Potion in turn 9. I get KCs in turns 10-13. In turn 12 silverspawn gets his Possession. When I finally have a Possession hand he can king his Possession and buy the Possession for himself. After that I draw 3x KC + 2x Curse, great. silverspawn can continue to triple his Possession and easily green while I have terrible draw luck. Nothing I could do here.

well i was making fun of it as i did it, but I actually think the mint was a legit move, because pawn, crossroads, and butcher are all really good in a deck with 3 estates/almost no money/a useless 5$.

i'm not sure how likely it is to hit 3$ in turn 3, but it's not that unlikely. you have 3 estates, 2 coppers, a mint and a pawn, that's 7 cards. in order to get 3$, you need a) pawn in your hand, and b) the bottom card of your deck to be not copper, that should be about 40% (then you can use pawn for +1$, +1 card and have 3$). Instead, I only hit 2$ and bought a crossroads. But then I didn't hit 3$ again in the fourth turn, and was forced to buy another pawn, who wasn't going to be very useful. That's why, after the game, I said I could've been "one turn faster with a little bit of luck, and two turns with even more luck." Of course, I got plenty of luck in other games, so I'm not complaining. but that was my thought process anyway.

confirmed, great draws.

I did stall in the end though, which I don't think is likely to happen. And i didn't build it perfectly. I think the engine can be even faster (though, maybe the rush can be too).

You could try Merchant Ship big money. It's probably worse than what silverspawn did, but I think it's better than trying to do what silverspawn did with a 5/2 opening.

I think you could have bought/gained Throne Rooms instead of some of your Ironworks. You usually had 2 in the late game, with TR instead of the other one you could gain double Gardens.

Chapel, Wishing Well, Woodcutter, Bridge, Caravan, Moneylender, Taxman, Junk Dealer, Fairgrounds, Harem
A frustrating start to the match. A rather simple board with not much else to do then trash down and play with a single Bridge and some big coins. On turns 3 I get a $2 hand and on turn 4 Chapel with 3 coppers and a Bridge, while he gets to buy a $5 card and trash 4 starting cards. He simply never looks back and takes all the Provinces.

Oracle, Wishing Well, Ironworks, Scout, Tournament, Count, Merchant Guild, Soothsayer, Tactician, Hunting Grounds
This game had me thinking the longest. I open 5/2, I'm actually not sure if that's an advantage and not sure what to do with it either. I decided to go for Count now, then Tact and then see what happens. Tact could have been really good if you draw it on turn 4 (after buying a tournament on turn 3) but also quite awkward if you draw it on turn 3, only to have $7 to spend on something you don't really want.

My next hard decision is on turn 6, when I draw all my deck and can play count to trash down to 1 or 2 coppers + wishing well, count, tact if I want to, or get something for $10, perhaps a Province?
I decide to go for the province indeed and it works out wonderfully. Trusty Steed even enables double tact for a while.

Transmute, Great Hall, Moneylender, Remake, Bazaar, Junk Dealer, Upgrade, Fairgrounds, Goons, Expand
Congrats to him for taking this game, he just played better then me here. I simply don't get enough trashers. I think he gets too many, but that's still a lot better then too few.
In the end he can just race the piles.

Fishing Village, Scheme, Worker's Village, Counting House, Harvest, Hunting Party, Market, Merchant Guild, Merchant Ship, Rebuild
We both skip the rebuilds and try to build a Hunting Party/Merchant Guild deck. I think thats the right choice because it's just too strong uncontested (schemes). The game itself is a bit frustrating for me. He starts chaining Hunting Parties two turns sooner then I do, and even though he makes lots of small mistakes in HP play order, scheming and endgame, I just never get close enough to really threaten him.

Hamlet, Storeroom, Tunnel, Noble Brigand, Remake, Counterfeit, Laboratory, Pillage, Wharf, Goons - with Colonies and Shelters
We both get 5/2 and then approximately the same mediocre luck. I pick up one storeroom that gives some deck control, but I can't really find the explanation for my big win at the end.

Courtyard, University, Masquerade, Workshop, Conspirator, Fortress, Moneylender, Highway, Rogue, Possession
Very scary set with Possession and Masquerade. I have a bit of bad luck when my opening Masq misses the shuffle, but on turns 5/6 we take a different view on the board. For $3P he gets a second university (and a 3rd later), where I decide to buy a courtyard. I think this wins me the game, because I get to Possess him first and his additional gains / lack of draw doesn't compensate enough for that.

Thanks for the match Monsieur X, and in the end 3-3 seems like a nice result.

My computer crashed in the middle of the match, though it was considerate enough to do it at the beginning of a game. Here are the twitch highlights of the two parts of the stream:

A few comments:

Game 1 - I think yed made a huge mistake going for money after he got his Mint turn, probably could have crushed me had he gone for the Quarry engine. My execution is a little sloppy, I put Golds in too soon and I completely forgot that Nomad Camp gets topdecked when you buy it. I did not think about this until I read the chat after the games. Could have really screwed myself over, I was actually thinking about buying more than one a turn! Terrible!

Game 2 - I am not sure on this one. Sometimes if you go heavy on Governors, but can't really chain them because your deck has too much junk, the benefits are a lot better for your opponent. Anyway, I am able to scrape this one out despite losing the Curse and Governor split. I do have good Haggler draws.

Game 3 - I like his Salvager opening better than my Quarry. He does draw double Quarry a lot. I mess up once and miss a Grand Market by playing Coppers when I have Quarry/Spoils in hand.

Game 4 - I think I misplayed my turn 3. Should have Haven'd something not copper and then bought another Haven, and bought University turn 4. Instead I Haven a copper and buy a Junk Dealer, it does not seem as good. I make at least one bad Torturer choice later on, though the game is mostly over as he gets a pretty big lead.

Game 5 - I don't like his single Cultist or the Crossroads he buys. I am not sure if what I do here is great, but it worked out ok.

Game 6 - There are lots of options in the opening. My Silver opening missing the shuffle hurts a lot. It seems like Fishing Village is a must at some point, because you really want to play Cultists and Altar, but maybe FV is skippable. I never see or think about Island/Hovel interaction as the chat noticed, but I'm not sure it's a big deal. You want to hit $5 here and swapping a Hovel for an Island does not help with that very quickly. I get totally swamped with junk.

Thanks for the match yed!

Titandrake vs Obi Won

http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?/20140912/log.514e50c3e4b0b79c883b9afe.1410547493372.txt
Chapel/FG is dumb and silly and very clearly the only thing to do here.

http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?/20140912/log.514e50c3e4b0b79c883b9afe.1410548056814.txt
I love the Amb/$4 village opening so much, but I probably love it too much. It also doesn't work if you get baited into buying a Graverobber on your 5 copper hand, instead of the Ambassador you desperately need on turn 3/4 to have the opening make sense. The whole point is that you get the Village early to guarantee being able to double Amb later - skipping the 2nd Amb makes the whole thing useless.

http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?/20140912/log.514e50c3e4b0b79c883b9afe.1410548701826.txt
Chapel-Lab-Goons, except Obi Won's Chapel goes to turn 5, and I get mine turn 4 thanks to Scavenger. Some snowballs later and I can pick up FG as payload to get to double Province. Probably played too safe/cautious, but it really didn't matter after a couple of turns.

http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?/20140912/log.514e50c3e4b0b79c883b9afe.1410549455555.txt
More Fool's Gold - HT/FG vs Band of Misfits/FG. Mystic does great work here, but I probably win if my 3rd Mystic was a Bishop. I'm 2 VP off a tie/3 off a win for a lot of turns.

http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?/20140912/log.514e50c3e4b0b79c883b9afe.1410550508678.txt
Apprentice + Salvager as trashers against Mountebank, but Hoard + Tournament + Colony game makes the long setup time worth it.

http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?/20140912/log.514e50c3e4b0b79c883b9afe.1410552192779.txt
Wharf-Goons, Remake = trasher, Ironmonger/Nobles = actions. Obi Won trashes more Copper, but I get lots of Wharves instead. I'm actually behind here because I'm surprisingly starved for actions - have to rely on good Ironmonger hits to get the actions I need. I think Obi Won builds better, but I manage to get a 3-pile before my deck dies to my extra dead cards.

http://www.twitch.tv/mic_qsenoch/c/5106478
http://www.twitch.tv/mic_qsenoch/c/5123090

I'll try to add the game logs and possibly some commentary later (though I don't remember so much of the match).

Overall, I felt I played ok and lost a bunch of close games. There was one game where he is ~2 turns ahead of me due to picking a better strategy (Bazaar/Poor House/Watchtower thing vs. my Stables and hopefully Minting Platina but I ran out of time). I definitely made some other blunders too though.

Hey Mic,

thanks for stream your match against dude. Sadly the end of the last game is missing in the recording. It would be nice to see the end, but I read, that you lost that last game.

I loved listening to your thoughts and watch you play these boards. Many very interesting kingdoms.

Thanks for the kind words. Unfortunately there is no end of that last game. My internet connection dropped and did not come back for a couple hours, so I just conceded the game to dudeabides.

I played pretty sloppy in the last game and didn't think carefully about my money. Overtrashed a bit and then made a serious blunder not playing a Conspirator before Pawn on turn 10, but made it worse by not taking money with one of the Pawns and getting double Conspirator off Stonemason. I think Stef pointed out in the chat that turn 8 I could have Stonemason'd a SP for two Pawns and rebought the SP, so that was another thing. Looking now at what dudeabides did on his last turn I had the win next turn, so thanks internet.

For the curious: I can draw the deck with 3 SPs (already two in hand), trash Mining Village for cash, play 4 Conspirators, use Pawns for action/buys, play 2 Stonemason on two SPs for 3x Stonemason and 1 Estate, play 2 Coppers and Potion. This gives me $12P and 3 buys. Two Stonemason overpays for Great Halls and buy one SP empties 3 piles for a 1 point win. God only knows if I would have seen this while playing.

Titandrake 2 - 4 Florrat

http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?/20140919/log.510876c7e4b0ac7a7a0bb212.1411173223597.txt
Don't remember this game that well, but I win Curse split pretty well. Smugglers from florrat is surprisingly good but I catch up in the end.

http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?/20140919/log.510876c7e4b0ac7a7a0bb212.1411173946380.txt
Painful 5-2, I decide on Moat-Masterpiece overpay. Opening is painful but I definitely misplayed - my first Gold should be Masterpiece overpay, I didn't need a 2nd Sea Hag, and I should have overpayed for Masterpiece more despite having Stashes in my deck - sure you shuffle less, but if that's because you have Silvers why do you care? Also, Stash gets bought this game - that's not something you see every day.

http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?/20140919/log.510876c7e4b0ac7a7a0bb212.1411175817594.txt
With Baker, I open Witch/Silver to Mountebank/Silver. I plan on lots of Stables + 1 Witch as payload, to the point that I get a Stables over an Altar early because I'm worried about collisions and think it won't hurt me that much. This is wrong.

Also, although I think Witch > Mountebank if both are on board, with Stables Mountebank becomes better. Since you're cycling your deck so much, the Mountebank attack continues to hurt. My deck is actually better quality at the start, but falls further and further behind as Mountebanks keep coming in. In a vacuum, after Cursing stops your decks are so bloated that you don't get many Coppers from Mountebank and the guaranteed curses from Witch win it for you. In this game, the cycling is strong enough that Copper still matters. I think this is contentious, would like outside opinion on this.

http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?/20140919/log.510876c7e4b0ac7a7a0bb212.1411177205321.txt
Torturer engine, I get Ghost Ship when I shouldn't have (although GS before Torturer is great, GS after Torturer is awful), and this + good $6 hits by florrat means I lose.

http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?/20140919/log.510876c7e4b0ac7a7a0bb212.1411177909488.txt
Another Torturer game, with Festival + Hamlet in the mix. I get $6 for Altar first, that + 1st player is pretty much game.

http://www.gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?/20140919/log.510876c7e4b0ac7a7a0bb212.1411178870158.txt
Amb, no + Cards, but Tournament + Fortress + Walled Village are in the mix. I get 5/2, decide to go for SM/Mint, and then use SM on Mint to get actions. It doesn't work, but I really think it should, florrat and I spend some times trying to figure out how lucky you need to be to get it to work with correct play.

What kills me is that after I do SM -Mint -> Amb + Fortress, and draw Fortress + Amb + SM, I don't SM on Fortress for 2nd Amb + Silver. I never line up SM + Fortress again and die to Estates. There are lots of subtleties here that I'd really like someone to look into here - what do you turn Mint into? Get 2 Ambs, or Amb + Silver, planning to buy the village later? Get 2 Fortresses to maximize odds of hitting SM-Fortress, or does that leave you too open to the Amb attacks from your opponent? Or do you forget the Mint entirely and do SM-overpay in the opening for 2 Ambs? It's all very up in the air, but I think if played right the 5/2 can beat the 4/3 here.

Game 1: http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20140924/log.5158def5e4b0ee7f08a599e4.1411566447248.txt

Code: [Select]
Stonemason, Loan, Sage, Scheme, Cache, Cultist, Merchant Guild, Wharf, Bank, Peddler
Cultist board where I get very lucky after opening Double Silver and hit $5 like every turn. Eevee opened Silver/Sage and only gets 2 Cultists and therefore loses the Ruins split 7/3. He tries to combeack by stonemasoning into Wharves and Peddlers to trash Peddlers into 2 Duchies and manages that really well. In one turn he was very close to tie the game but he didn't get lucky. With the Duchies basically gone there was no hope in coming back because he hasn't the money to buy Provinces.

Game 2: http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20140924/log.5158def5e4b0ee7f08a599e4.1411567886170.txt

Code: [Select]
Candlestick Maker, Bishop, Pirate Ship, Spice Merchant, Throne Room, Worker's Village, Junk Dealer, Mountebank, Rabble, Harem
I'm lucky again and open 5/2 on this Mountebank board. I open Mountebank/Candlestick Maker to his Spice Merchant/Silver. I then grab Spice Merchant and 2 Junk Dealers to build that strong engine. Eevee gets even 3 Junk Dealers which allows him to trash even faster. In one turn I wrongly chose to trash the Spice Merchant after a blind Junk Dealer and in another turn I misclicked and lost basically a whole turn. But as he had a much thinner deck he was ahead anyway and with Throne Rooms and Rabbles drawing his deck basically every turn. A 3-pile ending was imminent, so I panicked and grabbed Provinces, but with constant Rabble attacks this made my deck even worse. Eevee equalized by getting 2 Provinces in one turn. Then we both got one Province more and then Eevee could 3-pile on Candlestick Makers. I think getting "only" 2 Junk Dealers lost me the game here.

Game 3: http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20140924/log.5158def5e4b0ee7f08a599e4.1411569058650.txt

Code: [Select]
Coppersmith, Herald, Smithy, Tournament, Golem, Baker, Duke, Ghost Ship, Mystic, Rabble
I have a 5/2 on this Baker board with Tournament in it and decide to open Ghost Ship/Silver. Eevee saves his token and opens Tournament/Silver, planning for a straight forward Province rush. I get a second Ghost Ship and Eevee reacts and getting lots of Heralds. I originally planned to get Golem here because it's a slow game without trashing, but I feared I don't have enough money in hand because Eevee bought Ghost Ships now as well. I get instead Mystics to counter Ghost Ship. After Eevee got most of the Heralds he then adds Rabbles to his deck. I got an somewhat early Province. But in one turn I had Province in hand and got attacked by Ghost Ship, but didn't save Province for my upcoming Tournament hand. Later I drew Province with my Tournament, so I could never connect, in fact Eevee connected earlier than me after he drew his whole deck for the first time. He gets Princess so that he can buy double Province this turn. I then later could connect and orignally wanted Followers, but I already had Ghost Ship in hand, so I decided to get the Steed. On the last turn Eevee gained Followers and drew his deck again for another double Province turn and the win. I didn't expect mass Herald being so good in a game without trashing, but I guess I was wrong.

Game 4: http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20140924/log.5158def5e4b0ee7f08a599e4.1411570097701.txt

Code: [Select]
Masterpiece, Warehouse, Ironmonger, Taxman, Cartographer, Haggler, Highway, Rabble, Rogue, Grand Market
We both had 5/2 here and opened Haggler which is very strong on this board with a lot of spammable cards. We both then bought and gained Highways, Ironmongers and Warehouses and got a second Haggler eventually (the second Haggler should have been bought earlier by both of us probably). My first Grand Market I haggled through Platinum. In the next turn Eevee could buy one directly and haggled his first Rabble. On his next turn he decided against Grand Market + x and gained Highway, Rabble and 2 Ironmongers instead. His Rabbles were a perfect addition to his deck as his Ironmonger now were villages many times and he could draw more and more portions of his deck. He then could already buy 2 Grand Markets and gain 4 $5s. Next turn he was capable of getting 2 Colonies and threaten the piles and on the next turn he got 2 more Colonies and 3-piled. Me not getting Rabbles was a big mistake and lost me the game.

Game 5: http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20140924/log.5158def5e4b0ee7f08a599e4.1411570527026.txt

Code: [Select]
Poor House, Loan, Bridge, Cutpurse, Horse Traders, Smithy, Mountebank, Pillage, Rabble, Torturer
Boring straight forward Mountebank Big Money board. Eevee just got luckier draws and already had 2 Provinces as I bought my first Gold. Then I hit $7 like every time and got more Golds. He was already 3 Provinces ahead of me when I could buy my first one. I was never able to catch up.

Game 6: http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20140924/log.5158def5e4b0ee7f08a599e4.1411571456403.txt

Code: [Select]
Farming Village, Feast, Feodum, Pirate Ship, Procession, Spice Merchant, City, Journeyman, Venture, King's Court
I decided Journeyman BM is the way to go as the engine is pretty weak, but I overlooked Pirate Ship. Eevee went for Pirate Ship, later for King's Courts and then destroyed my economy. At the end I had only 1 Silver in my whole deck. No chance for me here.

Game 1: http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20140924/log.505d732a51c359e6597efeb8.1411585950301.txt

Code: [Select]
Cellar, Courtyard, Workshop, Ironworks, Moneylender, Graverobber, Knights, Market, Expand, King's Court
We both open Moneylender/Silver and go heavily for Knights while trying to get to King's Court. I get an earlier King's Court, but don't reach $5 that often as SCSN. Then he can connect Knights with King's Court a couple of times while I can't and I'm far behind. I try to come back with gaining Knights with Graverobber, but my Graverobbers are getting trashed immediately every time. I resign when my deck is only a couple of King's Courts with no targets anymore.

Game 2: http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20140924/log.505d732a51c359e6597efeb8.1411586583057.txt

Code: [Select]
Crossroads, Watchtower, JackOfAllTrades, Golem, Market, Pillage, Rogue, Stables, Venture, Expand
SCSN plays Double Jack (with Markets) while I go for single Jack with Stables and a single Market. Both strategies were about even. In turn 11 I hit $7 and get an Expand to potentially trash Stables. We Duchy dance and eventually Estate dance, then SCSN breaks PPR. I have Expand with Stables in hand and can win. I still like my engine approach more, but it is a tough call.

Game 3: http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20140924/log.505d732a51c359e6597efeb8.1411587219688.txt

Code: [Select]
Vagrant, University, Doctor, Swindler, Death Cart, Gardens, Festival, Junk Dealer, Pillage, Bank
We both open double Swindler and get Junk Dealer/Silver in the next shuffle. In turn 5 SCSN hits one of my Swindlers and turns it into a Doctor which I totall forgot to replace later. SCSN gets 2 Junk Dealers, while I get 3. He gets also Bank over Gold which I really dislike because of Junk Dealer and Festival. Also he gets Gardens over Duchy which doesn't make a lot of sense in a such trimmed down deck. SCSN hits some of my Duchies with his Swindler which really hurts, but he breaks PPR and I can win 2 turns later buying the last Province.

Game 4: http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20140924/log.505d732a51c359e6597efeb8.1411587751175.txt

Code: [Select]
Apothecary, Develop, Hermit, Loan, Smugglers, Philosopher's Stone, Rats, Remodel, Mystic, Bank
We both open Hermit/Potion and aim for an Apothecary/Mystic deck, but SCSN never actually hits $5 for a Mystic the whole game. He either gets Apothecary or Province, never $5-$7. All those $4 hands really hurt him and he denies to add Silver to his deck, he rather gained Copper with Hermit and gains Madmen. I did gain Silver with my Hermit as Silver is better than Shelters, but I'm not sure if Copper is better than Silver here as we both had only 2 Apothecaries each, which makes it very likely to not get an Apothecary in hand every turn and then I rather have Silver. I get a lead while we both get Provinces. SCSN has to get the penultimate Province, then we Duchy dance for a few turns, but then I have enough for the last Province and can win.

Game 5: http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20140924/log.505d732a51c359e6597efeb8.1411588303999.txt

Code: [Select]
Beggar, Candlestick Maker, Hamlet, Island, Throne Room, Ill-Gotten Gains, Soothsayer, Treasury, Tribute, Vault
Here I have $5/$2 and open Candlestick Maker/Soothsayer. SCSN opens with Island and continues to get a lot of Islands. In turn 6 I get a second Soothsayer and in turn 7 a Vault for all the Golds I'm getting. SCSN gets his first Soothsayer only in turn 8 and his second one in turn 9. For my last terminal I get a second Vault. Then we were both already going for Provinces. SCSN buys IGGs with less than $8, so he even wins the Curse split 6/4. Again it's very close and we Duchy dance. We're even in points when SCSN gets the penultimate Province. I have 3 coin tokens and take the tie.

Game 6: http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20140924/log.505d732a51c359e6597efeb8.1411588705819.txt

Code: [Select]
Vineyard, Sage, Alchemist, Island, Marauder, Scavenger, Contraband, Outpost, Goons, Peddler
We both want to go for Alchemist here. SCSN opens Silver/Potion while I take the risk and open Sage/Potion. But he is the one with $2P while I hit $3P, lucky for me. He already buys Vineyard for his missed turn and a few turns later he again hits $2P and buys another Vineyard. I on the other hand got very lucky. I get 2 Alchemists, then Goons and then hit his $6 turn with my Goons. In turn 10 SCSN already has 4 Vineyards, but with nearly no Action cards, only a Sage and 2 Islands while I continue to buy Alchemist every turn. SCSN resigns.

Awaclus pointed this out in the twitch chat: Sage/Potion has slightly better odds than Silver/Potion at getting $3p in turns 3-4. They are practically equal though (66.92% for Sage, 65.40% for Silver) So you were really not making a risky move. The thread with the odds is here: http://forum.dominionstrategy.com/index.php?topic=8046.0

On this board it's just a question of whether you want the Silver for getting to Goons. While Sage helps get Peddlers, and draw your Alchemists/Potion again sooner. I'm not really sure between the two.

With everyone's help, we can kill this senseless Sage slander.

Titandrake vs soulnet

BASE SET BATTLES

TWO ENTER

TWO LEAVE BECAUSE THIS ISN'T AN ELIMINATION FORMAT

(technically soulnet had the 3 cards you get from the promo code for physical Dark Ages)

http://gokologs.drunkensailor.org/static/logprettifier.html?20141001/log.515dccafe4b0617a5e927b58.1412194561921.txt
Chapel/Militia is silly when you hit their Chapel turn. CR/Festival/Militia combo.

http://gokologs.drunkensailor.org/static/logprettifier.html?20141001/log.515dccafe4b0617a5e927b58.1412195566093.txt
Chapel/Militia is still silly when you hit their Chapel turn. Festival/Library combo, you still open Militia despite Library because you know how awful not getting to trash 2 more cards early is? It's pretty bad.

http://gokologs.drunkensailor.org/static/logprettifier.html?20141001/log.515dccafe4b0617a5e927b58.1412196310161.txt
The grind. I want to say Bureaucrat/Gardens is nice here, but I have 5/2 so I can't do that. Ending right after powering up Gardens is pretty nice, it's only easy to track deck size at the start of a shuffle but that's enough. Also look at that score graph.

http://gokologs.drunkensailor.org/static/logprettifier.html?20141001/log.515dccafe4b0617a5e927b58.1412197664718.txt
Throw of a lifetime. Like, the engine is barely plausible at best, and then I open terribly for it. It relies on getting almost all Nobles - once soulnet gets a decent chunk of them I'm dead.

http://gokologs.drunkensailor.org/static/logprettifier.html?20141001/log.515dccafe4b0617a5e927b58.1412199908804.txt
Another Festival/Library game with Chapel, you can actually get a pretty solid engine this game. Chapel/Silver is definitely worse than Chapel/Chancellor open this game, but I go for VP first (after soulnet denies Festivals) and just get through thanks to a stall.

http://gokologs.drunkensailor.org/static/logprettifier.html?20141001/log.515dccafe4b0617a5e927b58.1412200781950.txt
Hurble blurble Militia/Witch shuffle luck battles.

DG vs Florrat

http://gokologs.drunkensailor.org/static/logprettifier.html?20141005/log.510876c7e4b0ac7a7a0bb212.1412537124911.txt
Perfect Smuggler+Highway+Prince combo. Florrat's prince of highways was so much better than my prince of smugglers that I should have discarded them and waited.

http://gokologs.drunkensailor.org/static/logprettifier.html?20141005/log.510876c7e4b0ac7a7a0bb212.1412537993687.txt
Straightfoward remake game.

http://gokologs.drunkensailor.org/static/logprettifier.html?20141005/log.510876c7e4b0ac7a7a0bb212.1412539146529.txt
Interesting kingdom with plenty of options. Is the young witch stronger than the scavenger+bane? I think so. Easier to attack than defend.

http://gokologs.drunkensailor.org/static/logprettifier.html?20141005/log.510876c7e4b0ac7a7a0bb212.1412540898645.txt
Another interesting one. I persevere with an engine deck despite the cursing and set up a big native village mat. I feel like I'm ahead when I take a big hand off the mat, buy two provinces, and clear my curses. Unfortunately the mat junk still hurt my deck a lot and it could have gone either way after my engine stalled badly

http://gokologs.drunkensailor.org/static/logprettifier.html?20141005/log.510876c7e4b0ac7a7a0bb212.1412542118976.txt
I trash down here for peddlers while Florrat builds upwards. I don't feel like I'm making much progress and Florrat gets a big lead. However the rest of his deck until the reshuffle are poor and I make a very unlikely comeback.

http://gokologs.drunkensailor.org/static/logprettifier.html?20141005/log.510876c7e4b0ac7a7a0bb212.1412543147587.txt
There's a HOP engine here but you need to trash down to get it working. Trashing down makes the knights powerful and Florrat picked a better time to get them than me.

I'll also post up the most interesting game in my series with Obi Wan. A game for the fans of jack based engines.

Game 1: http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20141006/log.516d321ae4b082c74d7b345d.1412622668901.txt

Code: [Select]
Sage, Storeroom, Wishing Well, Advisor, Mining Village, Thief, Golem, City, Jester, Rebuild
Rebuild game. We both open Silver/Silver and hit $5 once in the next shuffle. gamesou gets Jester while I go directly for Rebuild. We both get 2 Rebuilds and then go for Duchies. We both buy 4 Duchies in total what means that we both have an Estate left in our deck when the Duchies were gone. We both prefer now Mining Village over Silver to be able to spike a Province. In turn 11 I get unlucky and trash Estate for Estate, but in turn 13 I'm able to buy a Province which is huge. In turn 13 gamesou also trashes Estate for Estate. With my lead I'm now buying Estate as I plan to name Estate anyway to end the game as fast as possible. In turn 16 gamesou trashes Estate for Estate again and I have a big lead which I can maintain until the end.

Game 2: http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20141006/log.516d321ae4b082c74d7b345d.1412623623836.txt

Code: [Select]
Transmute, Doctor, Fishing Village, Feodum, Worker's Village, Counterfeit, Cultist, Knights, Torturer, Prince
Cultist game. Not sure if you want Doctor here, we both didn't open with it. You want Fishing Villages, but you also want $5, not sure if you want to open Silver here, but we both opened Double Fishing Village. I pay for it as I didn't hit $5 in the first shuffle while gamesou gets a Counterfeit first before going for Cultists. We both get our first Cultist in turn 5 and the second in turn 7. I go for 4 Cultists, but gamesou already goes for Torturers in turns 9 and 10. He also goes for Potion and gets a Transmute in turn 12. In turn 13 he gets a Province and I'm in big trouble. I turn 14 I hit $11 and decide to overpay for Doctor; I could trash 5 cards. gamesou gets a second Transmute in turn 15 and now rushes Duchies. My only hope is to build longer, but I'm already so far behind. In turn 20 my deck finally is in shape, but then the Curses are nearly gone for a 3-pile ending what means it's too late to catch up. gamesou buys the last Curse and wins in turn 22.

Game 3: http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20141006/log.516d321ae4b082c74d7b345d.1412624276663.txt

Code: [Select]
Haven, Chancellor, Steward, Tunnel, Urchin, Woodcutter, Bridge, Remodel, Thief, Treasure Map
Pretty weak board with not a lot going on. I plan to go for Urchins and Treasure Map, but totally missed Tunnel as Gold gainer. Anyway, he connected his Urchins in the first shuffle while I didn't, I had to wait one shuffle more. He goes for Tunnels earlier and gets tons of Gold. We both pick up Remodels to remodel the Golds into Provinces. I get always unlucky as he didn't play Mercenary or Urchin when I have Tunnels in hand. He has already 5 Golds in turn 12 while I have only 2 Golds. I can't catch up.

Game 4: http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20141006/log.516d321ae4b082c74d7b345d.1412624784306.txt

Code: [Select]
Smugglers, Armory, Farming Village, JackOfAllTrades, Militia, Treasure Map, Contraband, Graverobber, Highway, Knights
Double Jack board. gamesou has an unlucky $5/$2 opening here and goes for Contraband/-. We then both play Double Jack with Highways. In turn 8 though gamesou gets instead of Province, Dame Molly and Smugglers which I think is a big mistake as the game ends way to fast that this will be worth it. Especially the Smugglers isn't good here IMO. I get a fast big lead then which he isn't able to catch up.

Game 5: http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20141006/log.516d321ae4b082c74d7b345d.1412625466547.txt

Code: [Select]
Vineyard, Candlestick Maker, Crossroads, Masquerade, Watchtower, Coppersmith, Remake, Mint, Trading Post, Fairgrounds
Masquerade BM board. Again gamesou has an unlucky $5/$2 here and risks a Mint/CSM opening. But I'm even luckier. I draw 5 Coppers in turn 3 after my Masquerade/Silver opening and buy a Mint by myself. I have already 3 Golds in turn 7 and 2 Provinces in turn 9. In turn 11 I have Gold/Gold/Silver/Mint/Province in hand when he plays Masquerade on me. I decide to get rid of the Mint to be able to buy a Province, not sure if that was right. I have 4 Provinces in turn 12. gamesou tries his luck and goes for Vineyards to maybe outrace me and hopes that I can't get 8 Provinces alone without the Gold gain from Mint. But I'm able to. I have 6 Provinces in turn 15 and then 8 Provinces, a Duchy and a Fairgrounds in turn 19.

Game 6: http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20141006/log.516d321ae4b082c74d7b345d.1412626037419.txt

Code: [Select]
Develop, Urchin, Bishop, Monument, Duke, Harvest, Mine, Stables, Harem, Hunting Grounds
I open Monument/Silver and plan to play a Stables stack with Monument. gamesou opens Bishop/Silver, buys an Urchin in turn 3 and then gets Stables himself. I was getting Stables over Gold, maybe a mistake, not sure. I think gamesou got really fortunate draws and gets 2 Provinces in turn 8 and 9. gamesou continues to draw big portions of his deck and trashes Province with Bishop just to buy another one. I on the other hand get a lot of dud turns with no Stables in hand and $4 only. gamesou has Stables in each hand and gets a Province nearly every turn. Not much I could do, but I wonder if Bishop>Monument in general here.

Sorry gamesou, but this tie means that you are demoting while I'm staying in B. I wish you best luck to return to B soon.

Logs for the 4 games of DG vs Titandrake

Titandrake needed a big win in this series but Goko gave me a doozy wharf engine that flies out of the blocks ...

... followed by a governor/chapel start. I'm not a great governor player but even I could play that.

It seemed at first as if I'd been gifted another start with remake/silver compared to remake/nothing but my deck was just too slow. Perhaps the silvers are a big enemy here but I thought buying labs would compensate. Hmm.

We play similar ironmonger/jester decks but perhaps Titandrake trashes too much without building up income. I just get a couple of provinces and can then close out with stonemasons.

Game 3: http://gokosalvager.com/static/logprettifier.html?20141006/log.516d321ae4b082c74d7b345d.1412624276663.txt

I wonder how ignoring Urchin would have performed here. Against double Urchin, open Tunnel/Remodel, then buy many Tunnels and remodel estates into Remodel. Never buy Urchin. You won't trash, but the opponent will have to commit to Mercenary into Treasure Maps, which is not so great, while wou will have extra VP from Tunnels and likely will be able to remodel Gold into Provinces several times.
