I recently moved to another city and left my board game collection very behind. [...]
How much are you willing to spend? You may be able to order Adventures, Base Cards, and one of the other sets online for less than Adventures + Dominion at full retail.

(oh, and "yes" is the answer)

I don't know why I didn't see it coming that "Should I do A or B?" would be answered with a "yes", so shame on me.

Mmmm... I might look into it, but I do like giving money to the FLGS of the world.

So do I, but the ones near me either sell "AmeriTrash" (bgg, thanks) games or MtG... The only Dominion retailers near me have closed.

You mean your copy of Intrigue is far away, right? I mean, buy Adventures, then sort everything else out.

If you're going to get everything all eventually there won't be a need for Base Cards, so consider that.

I don't expect that my Intrigue box will join whatever I buy here any time soon. I'm talking years, maybe.

I am not thrilled by the Base Set, that's my problem.

That's the saddest thing I've read today.

There's only so many things you can carry on a plane... :(

I only managed to bring the Resistance with me, in my laptop bag.

I need counsel that I will probably not heed and do whatever I want instead.

I recently moved to another city and left my board game collection very behind. I found a board game shop in my new city that sells Adventures, but not the Base Cards. I already own Intrigue, but not the Base Set. I could buy the Base Set and Adventures (expensive!). Or I could buy Adventures and order the Base Cards online, and maybe buy some other box when I have the money (Guilds or Dark Ages).

What do you recommend? "You know you are going to buy them all eventually" is not an answer.

If you ask the local store to order the base set, then you can support the store and possibly encourage it to order an extra set to put on the shelves. It might be enticed to carry more Dominion, which means more players. And hey, if you bring your Dominion to the store for game nights, then you're going to make a few converts.

But it is usually cheaper to go online, and I respect that. I often buy online too, but I do try to support the local stores in some instances.

You say you're not impressed by the base set; I can see where you're coming from. After all, one danger of expansions is that they become more and more interesting, but keep in mind that you would likely be sprinkling base cards in there. If all 10 kingdom cards were from the base set, then I could see it looking kind of bland. On the other hand, some Adventures cards mixed in with the occasional Smithy or Witch or Throne Room can still be pretty exciting.

Mixing Base with one or two expansions is a lot of fun for everyone, especially if you going with more complicated expansions like Dark Ages or Adventures. Base by itself if only fun for people learning the game for the first time.

I played Dominion today for the first time in months when I got Adventures today.

Shuffling sure is inconvenient.

With Adventures or Dominion in general?

I keep a bunch of cards next to my computer so I can shuffle cards whenever I'm watching a video, waiting for an opponent/friend/loading times.

Dominion in general is annoying for me in real life because I'm lazy and I've played online. :T

The pros of playing IRL:
  • You can house rule BoM/Procession/Feast or Inheritence/Transmute.
  • You don't have to deal with Making Fun
  • People have claimed you can interact with others, but i don't really see what that's about

I got my hands on The Magic Whip. Man, it's an awesome album. I can go more in depth into the songs and how I feel about them musically if anyone cares.

I'm struggling with the grammar of this sentence - can someone tell me if it's correct like this:

Quote
One of my recent finds (...) was the theory that most people (...) much more seldom were unaware of things that they appeared to ignore than they were making contradicting decisions despite knowing about them.

?

The bolded letter should fix it.

Uh, grammatically correct, sure, but if you're writing it, I would look for  ways to rephrase.  The sentence parses like:

One of <A> was the theory that <B> more seldom do <C> than <D>.

That makes sense, but <C> and <D> sound a bit awkward.  You can drop "they were" from <D>.
