I caught bits of Gilmore Girls back in the day when my mother and sister watched it. The thing that threw me about it was the rapid-fire conversation saturated with witticisms. I'm mean really rapid. The characters in that show think and talk faster than in any other piece of media I've ever seen. It didn't sound natural at all and prevented me from suspending my disbelief.

But not faster than people talk in real life.

Have you ever watched The West Wing?

This.  The judges would also have accepted almost anything else by Aaron Sorkin.

And as that article points out, Moonlighting.

i had a dominon dream! (well, sort of)

we (no idea who we is, but I was one of them) were testing the new promo. unfortunately, I don't remember the text, although I think it was read out loud twice, but it started with "nudge the first card of your deck," then there was a "resolve this: " clause and some more obscure stuff that was neither a real sentence nor did it make much sense. something about gold. when I read it, I was like, "but donald always payed so much attention to wordings, this is weird. maybe he is trolling us?" I also remembered an older version of this promo, which was something like "+1 action, either draw to x, or dig for an action card and put it into your hand. If you have already played this card this turn, instead draw a card". That (not what I just paraphrased) was worded correctly and made at least some sense, but for the new one, I couldn't figure out what it even does, so I didn't get why he changed it.

Then I played it to see what it does. my opponent got a gold in his hand. I believed to understand that, if I have a gold in my hand too, this card allows me to discard it and get it/a new one in my hand again, but my opponent just gets a gold in his hand, so I assumed there must have been something that I was missing.

and that was it.

I guess I should give it a shot for-reals. Probably I'll get used to the unnatural-sounding dialogue if I can watch it from the beginning and get to know the characters.

Is suspicious.

The show never really interested me before. Maybe I'll give Gillmore Girls a shot. I was wrong about Fight Club until online people I trust showed me the errors of my ways (technically, the errors of the marketing department, because Fight Club trailers looked dumb as shit).

First I need to finish up Caprica. I have other shows I intend to watch (Dexter, for example), but I may bump up Gillmore Girls. Oof, 7 seasons. That could be quite a stretch. I was so exhausted watching all 7 seasons of Buffy that I still haven't brought myself to watch Angel.

My healthy breakfast today:

Blueberries, raspberries, sliced almonds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, flax seed, blueberry kefir.

I think that means I win, right?

Remembered the coconut today. Now I actually do win.

Kuildous, if you ever watch Dexter, I recommend either :
- stopping at the 2nd season
- stopping at the 4th season (which is good but the 3rd season is meh)
- stopping at the 5th season (which I found decent but many people hate)

The 6th, 7th and 8th seasons are horrible. Horrible. Don't listen to the people who will tell you that the 7th season had a creative resurgence : they are lying/wrong. You can still watch the finale and enjoy it in all its glory (it doesn't make more sense if you've watched the previous seasons anyway).

You cannot be a Dexter fan and not watch the 4th season.  The season four finale is one of the all-time great episodes of television.

Nope. Nobody forced me to watch all those seasons of Dexter, I did it to myself !

Bet you'd be pissed if you woke up tomorrow and the 8th season was on your iPad!

Easy workaround : I don't own an iPad !

Wow, so it sounds like I should treat Dexter in a similar way as the Machete method Star Wars (which is to watch 4, 5, 2, 3, and 6 in that order, and fuck episode 1—assuming you have to watch the prequels, which you don't).

I wonder if a huge pan has compiled a list of must-watch episodes. I suppose that going by season will work, especially since I'm sure it's serial and not granular. I may ask my co-worker her thoughts on your suggestion. I know she hated the finale, so she's not afraid to share her opinion.

Speaking of which, you used "finale" and "glory" in the same sentence. I've heard people bitch about the finale. Is it really because it's the pinnacle of a shitty season?

It's the pinnacle of three awful years. It is probably the worst finale in in the history of TV shows that were once good.

Dexter has a per-season structure, so I don't think there is a list of episodes to avoid. If you watch a season, you should watch it entirely. It would probably work the other way around : avoid season X, but still watch that one episode out of that season for whatever reason.

That's one great thing about American Horror Story. If there's a bad season* then you can easily skip to the next season with no loss whatsoever.

*They haven't yet had a bad season.

It's really not that difficult with Dexter. Like with any other show, if you are not liking it for a prolonged period of time, stop watching. Whatever you do, don't continue past the finale of the 4th season. If you somehow forgot and started with season 5, for the love of god stop there. If you feel an urge to break these rules, watch the last episode of the series and you'll understand what everyone was talking about.

Honestly, if I were to describe the ending of the show to you right now, you would straight up think I'm making it up. It's that ridiculous.
