somehow I can't believe that's real...
There are so many pet versions of human things that I can't believe are real.

I had a pet medium once, but I forgot to feed it. Afterwards I sought consolation from a pet medium medium.

I guess I would eat pets medium, but eating cats and dogs is frowned upon here.

I would hope it's not, but I do know one of the clients. I can't imagine the person faking all that for the sake of the medium.

Which means that the other discussions on there could possibly belong to other legitimate people. I wouldn't be survived if she hired out some shills or made fake accounts to give herself credibility, but I know at least one of them is real.

Grief can make us do foolish things. It just angers me to know that someone is making money off of the grief-stricken (especially since I know one of them).

We put up signs in coffee shops.  Starbucks made us change it to "short pet tall at grande."  Or is that "tall pet grande at venti"?  I've never been sure.

It just seems so criminal to charge someone $11 to make him/her feel warm and fuzzy. I'm disgusted.

I'm not on facebook, so can't read the page, but $11 to relieve grief could be very cheap.  Would you be disgusted by a good counsellor charging $11 for the same result?  I completely agree that there's something off about mediums, so there has to be more to it than taking money off grieving people.  Perhaps it's that encouraging belief in the supernatural will lead to changes that might be damaging in the long term?

There's a similar situation with homeopaths.  If a placebo effect is enough to make someone feel better then that's great, but you don't want people to rely on homeopathy if they have a problem that a placebo won't fix.

I would not be as disgusted if a counselor made someone feel better. That's because typically the counselor relies on training to get the person through tough times. Often these are tried-and-true methods—perhaps with a little controversy—but generally accepted and tested.

This person is claiming to be able to talk to dead animals. The target audience is people who have such a strong emotional attachment to animals that their pain and/or guilt brings them to charlatans. This person is lying about her abilities and perpetuating wrong beliefs. I'm glad that my friend feels better about the outcome of the animal, but that could have been done in any number of ways not involving shelling out money to a hack. I don't know how much my friend paid in the end, but you're right that $11 (or $121 if it was 11 additional questions) is a small price to pay for peace of mind, but I vehemently oppose this woman getting that money for cold reading.

And if you look at the page, you can see the cold reading happening.

"Your dog loved eating bacon on Sundays."
"We never gave him bacon."
"He might be thinking of previous owners."
"Probably; we didn't know what his previous owners fed him."

It's glaringly obvious that she's fishing, but the client is obviously grieving and willing to overlook that.

In a sense, I'm kind of awed by how effective cold reading can be. It's beautiful how the human brain works, even to its own disadvantage, but the scams perpetuated with cold reading do disgust me.

All I can say is Penn and Teller had more than one episode on hacks like this on their Bullshit show, and they make these points while at the same time showing how ridiculous these people are.

If anyone wants a PAL download code for the Super Smash Bros for 3DS demo, I have two available to offer. Note that I don't think they work on NSTC so you need to actually be PAL for it to work.

But not strictly better, because the spinoff can have a different cost than the expansion.

Was anybody into Runescape back in the day? Or maybe even the original PSO?

I was into RuneScape in 2005. I have some items from a Christmas event that year, it's still sometimes amusing to log in and walk around with them on and watch people's reactions.

Yeah it's awesome, I played the original on Dreamcast with Seganet. The game was ruined for me when I walked into a room and found a few piles of the max amount of meseta. I've been trying to find videos on youtube of the original but they're aren't many.

I'd almost forgotten I even own a 3DS. No idea where it is. I'm surprised how quick I went off digital games when I discovered boardgames but I've got almost zero interest in them any more.
