Brown is a terrible way to describe a wristwatch... Because I would hazard a guess at somewhere around 30% of watches have a brown strap.  However, a brown face is much less common.  Also, it's easy enough to find the brand of the watch, seeing as it's usually on the face...

Also, I need an excuse to post in this thread so I can be notified of the new random stuff going on

Generally with a "lost and found" email you don't describe all of the identifying properties.  You announce that you have found a brown wristwatch, and then when someone claims that the watch is theirs, you ask them for the brand name or other identifying information in order to confirm that it is really their watch and that someone isn't just claiming a free watch.

But not just anyone can claim the watch.  Only a brown man.

question: how does one find their most respected post?

It's been asked before.  I know mine (it's the most respected post on the forum), but I don't know about anybody else's.

What post is this?

I think, instead, Theory should remove all the upvotes from all your other posts and put them only on that one.

No, that's only displayed on the post, and doesn't affect the actual respect count. Theory's post with negative respect was a clever plan to get people to upvote it in an attempt to bring it over 0.

But then it wouldn't be hundreds, it would be thousands.

I remember that post by sudgy. I think I actually reported it and made the joke theory then made (but it was a long time ago, so I might be misremembering).

Oh well. It's not like I care about imaginary internet points. Now everyone give me the imaginary internet points I deserve for the jokes.

The answer is of course, 2. But you have to know why that is the answer so telling you the answer doesn't really answer why.

Ridiculously simple puzzle.jpg

No cheating I figured this out in 5 minutes.

I'm shocked this took any normal adult more than about a minute.

That being said, I tried it on two pre-schoolers and all I got was whining about "I don't know how, I don't know what this means!" so take the first line of the puzzle with a grain of salt.  Apparently I need to give my daughters more puzzles.

The preschool line is just the normal bullshit to challenge people's egos so that they will a) comment on it to look smart and give the post more visibility and b) share it to feel superior to their friends and give the post more visibility.

And I'm getting pretty sick of those "challenges" to people. This one is actually a legitimate puzzle; not a hard one, but it's a puzzle. It's tons better than "99% of Americans can't give a male name that begins with O within 2 minutes," or "Most people cannot find the 9 in this field of 8s within 15 seconds." They're both bullshit, but the average person (I really, really hope I am overexaggerating the term "average") feels like he just accomplished a task of smarts and then wants to show it off.

So while the puzzle is actually a good one, I doubt the preschool claim holds any water. It's just some group trying to get views.

The pre-school line is a hint, people. It's a hint, not a scientific fact. I believe the puzzle would be orders of magnitude harder without the hint. I don't think it has anything at all to do with egos.

I really don't understand that "hint".  What are preschooler's not able to do that nonpreschooler's can?  Lots of stuff, I guess.  That doesn't really tell me much.

It means the problem is not of a mathematical nature, that is, there is no function to be discovered. Pre-schoolers can count, they cannot add, subtract or any other higher mathematical functions. Thus the implication is that you are counting something. Half of the puzzle is parsing the hint.

Also, spare me the explanation that counting is addition by 1 recursive. By addition I mean the summing of whole numbers greater than 1.

There is a function:

g(0) = 1
g(1) = 0
g(2) = 0
g(3) = 0
g(4) = 1*
g(5) = 0
g(6) = 1
g(7) = 0
g(8 ) = 2
g(9) = 1

f(d_n 10^n) = g(d_0) + g(d_1) + ... + g(d_n).

*or 0
