This is hurting my head.  I remember it as Berenstein.

As someone who grew up without these stories, I can't say if I remember it being spelled as Berenstein or Berenstain. I read about this whole thing like a couple of weeks ago. There are some stuff I have thought of when it comes to this.

First of all. If our reality changed to Berenstain, why did the documents change to reflect this, but not people's memories?

More importantly, who spells stein stain? I'm pretty sure kids that grow up with these today, that are old enough to spell somewhat will spell it stain, while in a couple of years, they'll remember it as stein, as that's how you usually spell it. I'm not a linguist, but I'm pretty sure that if you hear a word a ton when you're a kid, you'll begin to think of it as the "usual" spelling when you grow up if you don't grow up actually seeing the word written often.

Basically, I think that it's a case of "we don't actually remember the spelling, but we think we do-syndrome".

I also grew up with these, and would have written Berenstein if I was looking to buy them again.  I think I'd pronounce in "Bern-Steen" in my head.
