I guess I wasn't sarcastic enough.

I'd say not. My sarcasm detector didn't even blip.

Anyone else avoid certain cards on Goko because of the interface/resolution time?  Like "Yeah, I could pick up a Pawn for free here, but I don't really want to have to deal with all that clicking every time I play it."  I would also likely get more Urchins if I weren't constantly asked to trash them, would use Cartographer more, etc.

I worry about the best play. I don't have time to think about time.

Ever wanted to learn about the economy?

Yay! It's simplified, so it's not too difficult to understand.

Eh, I can think of better places to go for economic theory than a hyperconservative who actually thinks the minimum wage is a bad thing, or an African-American who believes affirmative action doesn't work.

I am reminded of one of my favorite quotes.

Sam Lowry: See you, Jack. Give my regards to Allison and the twins.
Jack Lint: Triplets.
Sam Lowry: Triplets? God... how time flies.

Bloody brilliant.

I just unsubscribed from a random spam e-mail newsletter that I was receiving for whatever reason. Where most such pages will annoy you with an "are you sure" question and a "yes" button, this one had "you have now successfully unsubscribed" and an "opt back in" button. It was a sly trick, but I did not fall for it!

I didn't remember that line, but brilliant movie.

It's such a throwaway line. I'm pretty sure I didn't pick up on it the first few times I watched it. I couldn't tell you when I noticed it.

It's also one reason why I watch everything with CC on. Not just because my acuity is not up to snuff. You can pick up on some throwaway lines, especially if they're against a loud backdrop.

And as I noticed while watching Arrow and the Flash, there are some lines that clearly were in the original script, but the audio was cut in post. Sometimes these extra lines tell you a little bit more about the action.

I can't stand CCs.  I use them if there's something I can't understand, so I rewind, put them on, then turn them back off.  But it really, really, really interferes with my viewing experience.  My roommate insists on having them on, so on the common TV we're always toggling the setting back and forth.  It's a bit of an issue if we're both watching the same show in the common room, but I have my own (smaller) TV in my bedroom, so if he wants to watch with CC on, I'll just go watch it on my TV the way that isn't painful.

I can see comfort level being an issue. I'm perfectly fine with reading the words and seeing the action at the same time. But then I've been watching CC for over 30 years, so I'm comfortable with it.

It does mean that I'm never the person to say, "That foreign film is subtitled? I don't feel like reading."

Agreed, subtitles suck. I started watching TV shows without subtitles at one point just because it was easier to find on the Internet, and I'm so glad I did. Especially in comedies, subtitles can ruin jokes. Just recently I went to see Avengers Age of Ultron (not a comedy but still) and you had people laughing in the theater before the jokes actually landed because they were reading the subtitles, which is very annoying. Obviously in the case of a theater showing I support subtitles because it's way, way better than dubbed and showing it without subtitles would be a little too exclusive, but I'm always surprised to hear that people willingly use them for stuff in their native language (unless you're actually deaf obviously).

Well subtitles don't bother me that much, but of course if I understood the language I wouldn't want them.  They're also usually not as obtrusive as closed captions.

But, basically, I can't not read the closed captions, which means I'm not looking at other stuff, like background, scenery, and probably most importantly, the actors' facial expressions.

Don't closed captions include subtitles ? Or do they only include sound effects and stuff ?

It's odd. I exclusively watch subbed anime--and I don't find the subtitles distracting at all since I have a relatively shallow knowledge of the language.
But when I'm watching a movie in English with subtitles--I find them very distracting. I wonder if both hearing the words and reading them makes it more difficult to focus?
