I started out using images because I was used to the original game and had played on BSW before which uses images exclusively.

Then I went to text for simplicity and got used to it so much that I have trouble when I try and switch back to images. I have also played with text on Iso so much that I sometimes have a hard time in offline games and need a few minutes to actively switch back.

So which do you use? The image or text interface and why?

Images, because that's what I'm used to (and each card having both a name and a picture makes it easier to find the one you want).

I'm largely convinced at this point that I don't actually "read" cardnames at all anymore, but rather just have an image associated with a card in my brain. I know that this phenomenon exists in MTG as well, resulting in some unfortunate but rare occurrences where cards with similar art are accidentally misregistered or misplayed as each other. (See onslaught block PT where a morphless daru whatchamacallit was played as a morph, because the art is nearly identical to a different, morphing daru otherwhatchamacallit)

Obviously i never really learned the names, even back then.

I think (but am possibly wrong) that the mind is faster at recognizing images than text. Not that it really matters either way.

I play with images and like rod- said, I recognize cards more so by the image than the text. The real problem for me is, since I play most of my games on iso, playing games IRL throws me for a loop because I am so used to the iso art that it takes some time to realize what some of the cards actually are.

Wow, I didnt thought that so many players play in text-mode. I play with Images, because of the already stated advantages.

But one time I messed up with it. I opened Cellar/Silver instead of Chapel/Silver, this pictures are somehow confusing and both cost 2. I didnt see it immediately and even when I drew my Cellar I played it confidently and chose my 4 cards in hand for it (thinking I will chapel them away). When I drew my new 3 cards I had realized my mistake :-) What an embarrasing move.

I exclusively play text. I'm used to it and I prefer simpler, cleaner interfaces.

I know I do. I have an ICT-related job, so I can get away with some slacking every now and then.

I work in the video game industry so I can get by with a few games as "research"

Text, because I find the interface much nicer and I didn't like associating an image with a card that's not actually on that card.

I'm surprised so many people play with text only. I figured it was mostly there as a backup option for if it won't work with the images (ages ago I tested something against a non-registered version of myself and had to use IE, and the images wouldn't work so I had to use text).

Now I just had to vote for images. Although the play-at-work argument is almost compelling enough to change.

So I've been playing with text for the last few days. Long enough to get comfortable with the interface. I have to say that the simplicity of the design is a compelling argument in it's favor, but I don't think I'll stick with it. The main drawback of the text interface comes when you have large hand sizes. It sorts the cards by name, but you lose the clumping that the image interface offers. I found that I took more time simply playing these games than with the image interface.

I usually play with images. The only drawback, as others have alluded to, is that it makes me worse at distinguishing cards by their name, and there are still some treacherous interfaces that present only a name (not even color). Yes, I am embarrassed at how often I have accidentally passed a Colony instead of a Copper in a Masquerade.
