Highway was in play.
Then I really don't understand the issue. That's not totally unheard of, and sometimes it's totally the right move.

krule531 plays an Embargo.
... getting +$2.
... trashing the Embargo.
... embargoing the Hoards.
krule531 plays 3 Coppers.
krule531 buys a Hoard.
... gaining a Curse
...because 5 isn't enough to buy the 6-cost hoard?

There was a Market on the table.

And ninja'd.  But yes, Embargoing then eating the Curse isn't always a bad way to go.

WHARF 2 THA BRIDGE and I just played this exciting game, which featured such powerful cards as Mountebank, Scrying Pool, Festival, Nobles, Peddler, and Coppersmith (which yes was pretty powerful in this setup).  Now of course, one may ask "why Scry when Mountebank will just flood your deck with Copper and Curse?"  Well, on turn 17:

   — WHARF 2 THA BRIDGE's turn 17 —
WHARF 2 THA BRIDGE plays a Scrying Pool.
   ... getting +1 action.
... revealing a Festival and keeping it.
... making chwhite discard a Nobles.
... revealing a Festival and a Copper and putting them in the hand.
WHARF 2 THA BRIDGE plays a Festival.
   ... getting +2 actions, +1 buy, and +$2.
WHARF 2 THA BRIDGE plays a Festival.
   ... getting +2 actions, +1 buy, and +$2.
WHARF 2 THA BRIDGE plays 3 Coppers.
WHARF 2 THA BRIDGE buys an Inn.
... shuffling 12 cards into the draw pile.

WHARF 2 THA BRIDGE buys a Peddler.
(WHARF 2 THA BRIDGE draws: 2 Scrying Pools, a Curse, and 2 Warehouses.)

Naturally, WHARF bought three Provinces the next turn.  Not to be outdone, on turn 20 I:

   — chwhite's turn 20 —
chwhite plays an Inn.
... drawing 2 cards and getting +2 actions.
... discarding 2 cards.
chwhite plays a Nobles.
... drawing 3 cards.
chwhite plays a Mountebank.
... getting +$2.
... WHARF 2 THA BRIDGE gains a Copper and a Curse.
chwhite plays 4 Coppers.
chwhite buys an Inn.
... shuffling 21 cards into the draw pile.

(chwhite draws: a Coppersmith, 3 Scrying Pools, and an Inn.)

FWIW, on that turn I declined to play Peddler to prevent a reshuffle.  I'm sure beefier Inns have been bought, but never one that I've seen.

Has someone done an article on Inn + Scrying Pool? Because that seems like an awesome combo. Of course, there needs to be other powerful actions to go with it.

Okay, I know this strategy has been well posted, but check out how this guy fails at doing it correctly, and I think I came up with a funny counter in buying up the curses.  51 rounds, I won with 2 cards in my deck, 63 to 3.  Crazy

the best part is this appears to be all this guy does, he sets up a filter and plays this game over and over!

You were very lucky that he (accidentally?) didn't trash the last GM and then he had to send it back to you so you could bought the last Estate. And you did nothing instead of buying Curses or Coppers for quite a long time...

So I just played a game with Witch, Border Village, Golem, Salvager, Lookout, Hamlet, and Haggler.

I get a Witch after my opponent has gotten 2 of them, so I spend most of the game catching up until...

Quote
— Kemps's turn 22 —
Kemps plays a Hamlet.
... drawing 1 card and getting +1 action.
... discarding 1 card and getting +1 action.
Kemps plays a Golem.
... (Kemps reshuffles.)
... revealing a Gold, a Border Village, a Copper, a Province, a Gold, and a Hamlet.
... discarding the Copper, the Province, and the 2 Golds.
... playing the Border Village first.
... ... drawing 1 card and getting +2 actions.
... playing the Hamlet second.
... ... drawing 1 card and getting +1 action.
Kemps plays a Golem.
... revealing a Hamlet, a Copper, and a Witch.
... discarding the Copper.
... playing the Witch first.
... ... drawing 2 cards.
... ... Anonymouse gains nothing.
... playing the Hamlet second.
... ... drawing 1 card and getting +1 action.
... ... discarding 1 card and getting +1 action.
Kemps plays a Witch.
... drawing 2 cards.
... Anonymouse gains nothing.
Kemps plays a Border Village.
... drawing 1 card and getting +2 actions.
Kemps plays a Hamlet.
... drawing 1 card and getting +1 action.
... discarding 1 card and getting +1 action.
Kemps plays a Hamlet.
... drawing 1 card and getting +1 action.
Kemps plays a Salvager.
... trashing a Province for +$8 and +1 buy.
Kemps plays a Haggler.
... getting +$2.
Kemps plays a Haggler.
... getting +$2.
Kemps plays a Silver.
Kemps buys a Province.
... gaining a Border Village.
... ... gaining a Duchy.
... gaining a Border Village.
... ... gaining a Duchy.
Kemps buys a Border Village.
... gaining a Haggler.
... gaining a Witch.
... gaining a Duchy.
(Kemps reshuffles.)
(Kemps draws: a Province, a Border Village, a Haggler, a Golem, and a Silver.)

So I use Border Village to buy out the Duchies with Haggler.

I end up winning by 1 point.

What can you do but buy curses and coppers when you have 0 cards?  The hilarious part is, in fact, that after all of that trashing and time-wasting, he screwed up on the last turn to hand me the winner right back.

In which Tunnel makes a rather effective defense against minion:

nito plays a Minion.
... getting +1 action.
... discarding the hand.
... drawing 4 cards.
... Dark Force discards the hand.
... ... Dark Force reveals a Tunnel and gains a Gold.

Man whenever I get a hand like this in a Minion game, it ends up being the one turn in 10 he doesn't Minion.

Alternatively you discard a great hand and draw Tunnel x 4 and curse the fact that you can't discard your hand to further plays of Minion despite him discarding his hand 3 more times before the end of the turn.

All too true :)  I got a hand or two like that during the game too, but this turn made it all worth it.

Unfortunately Council Room logs don't seem to show what cards were drawn from +cards plays... but recently I had this:

GendoIkari plays a Vault
...drawing 2 Tunnels

So, theory, when do you intend to actually make the blog post for GIM2011  :)?

Taking screenshots is the trickiest part, since I can't do that at work.  The writeup is finalized already and the screenshots will come as soon as I have an hour or so uninterrupted at home.

Don't know where else to put this, but I want to brag.
You should put it in 'game reports', if you're curious, though it's fine here. But don't dump such a long thing like that. If you want to put something that long, I'd suggest putting [code+][/code+] around it (without the plusses).

So this just happened (copied and pasted it out of the game itself):

— Your turn 24 —
Hand: Hamlet, Hamlet, Province, Estate, Estate

You play a Hamlet.
... You draw a Hamlet and get +1 action.
... You discard a Province and get +1 action.
... You discard an Estate and get +1 buy.
You play a Hamlet.
... You draw a Curse and get +1 action.
... You discard an Estate and get +1 action.
... You discard a Curse and get +1 buy.
You play a Hamlet.
... You draw an Estate and get +1 action.
... You discard an Estate and get +1 action.

I swear I had a lot of other cards in my deck.

Maybe it would be easier to post html snippets from the game logs?  As long as you link to the isotropic css file from the blog... okay, maybe it wouldn't be easier...

Hey, were these ever compiled into a top 10 article like the original Greatest Moments article was? I thought the point of this thread was to get submissions for the top 10.

Yeah, I was looking forward to that because my moment was the best and was going to win or get special mention (I had the 100% identical end of game decks).
