Rules:

The Golden Rule:

Please remember that this is a game and your main objective is to have fun!  Be considerate of each other, don’t get personal, and enjoy the game.

Please read The Civility Pledge before signing up for any mafia game on this site.  If you have not /pledged there, you cannot play.

Excessive personal attacks or uncivil behavior may be dealt with by modifiers or modkills.

1. General Gameplay and Etiquette:

1. You may not quote private Moderator-supplied information (either real or fabricated) of any kind.  Paraphrasing (for role claims, etc.) is acceptable.
2. There is to be NO personal communication outside of the forum postings unless specifically allowed.  Mafia members may communicate at night and during the confirmation stage.
3. As a general rule you should aim for one post every 24 hours, minimum, to keep the game moving.
4. All players are required to confirm that they are still playing to the moderator each night through either a Quicktopic or a personal message. Night will not end until all players have confirmed that they are still playing.

2. Voting, Deadlines, and Player Death:

1. A simple majority (rounded up) of all living players must agree on one person for a lynch to occur prior to deadline.
2. Once a simple majority has been reached no further unvoting will change someone’s fate.  Further votes will also be ignored.
3. Once a player is lynched the game enters twilight until the mods lock the thread; all players including the one who was lynched may continue to post during twilight. When a lynch occurs, their alignment and dominion card are revealed and the game will proceed to the night phase.
4. Days will last 11 days and Nights will last 2 days.
5. If the day deadline has been reached without a lynch the day will proceed immediately to night with no lynch occuring.
6. Please submit votes as: Vote: PlayerName.  Votes will NOT be counted if they are not bold or do not follow this syntax! Obvious abbreviations or nicknames will be counted so long as they are unambiguous.
7. Please submit vote revocations as either Unvote: PlayerName or Unvote. Unvotes are not necessary before changing votes.
8. You may Vote: No Lynch - a simple majority of these vote types are required to send the game to Night phase without a lynch.
9. Once you are killed (either via lynch or night kill) you may no longer post in the game or in Quicktopics. This means that you do not even get a “Bah” post. The dead in this game are silent.
10. If the thread is locked, you may not post.  Threads can be locked for various reasons, but no matter what the reason, you may not post.  The mod may forget to lock the thread, but if they say it is locked, it is still locked.
11. Do not edit or delete posts.  We don't want some players having more information than others.  If you want to clarify posts, feel free to double post. Mods will not edit posts for you.

3. Miscellaneous/Mechanics:

1. Bold, colored text is reserved for the Mods.  No invisible/small text is allowed, nor is cryptography.
2. If you have an issue/problem with the game, please PM the Mods privately.  Do not post issues/complaints in the game thread.
3. The Mods may make mistakes - please point out any mistakes gently.  Mistakes will be corrected where possible, but sometimes mistakes are made that cannot be reversed.  These will stand as final to be commiserated over after the game.
4. Please bold all requests to the Mods so that they don’t get missed.
5. Prods of missing players will be issued upon request after 48 hours of no activity or upon request after 24 hours of no activity.  A prodded player has 48 hours to respond or risks replacement.  A player who has been prodded 2 times is subject to replacement without further notice.
6. Please do not discuss ongoing games, it can unintentionally affect the other game.
7. Rule violations will be dealt with according to their severity, which may include modkill(s) if needed.
8. If you anticipate being unavailable for more than a 48-hour period please post a notice to that effect in the thread.  Treat this game as a commitment.  Be considerate – don’t leave us hanging.
9. Subsitutions will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis by the moderator. If you do not wish to continue playing the game, do not post this in thread, instead send a personal message to the moderator.

Setup Information:

See the OP for rules regarding lynches and deadlines. They work pretty much the same as most other games.

At no point may QT links ever be posted in the thread during the game. You may paraphrase things that were said in a QT, but not quote.

3 players are mafia-Aligned
The other 9 players are town-Aligned

The Mafia win when only mafia-Aligned players are alive, or nothing can prevent this from happening
The Town win when only town-Aligned players are alive

The Mafia will have a QT where they can communicate to each other during the Night phase of the game. They will also have a factional night kill.

This being a dominion forum, this game will have a deck. Each player represents a card in the deck. When a player dies, they are removed from the deck (trashed). At any given time, all alive players are either in the deck, in hand, or in the discard pile. Who is where will be listed at all times during the game in the OP, and updates will be given at the end of day and night phases. All players start in the deck. Each night, 5 players currently in the deck will be randomly selected to become in the hand. These players will have a QT to communicate for that night only. At the end of each night, the people currently in hand will move to the discard pile. When there are not enough players in the deck to form a hand of 5 players, the players in the discard will move to the deck. This works like standard Dominion.

Each night, all players in the hand (and so with access to the QT to communicate to each other) may choose exactly two players. These players may not be the same, however they may be in the hand or any other place in the deck. They must still be alive. These two players must be unanimously agreed upon. Players will vote for players to be targeted in the following format, in bold:

Target: --playername1-- and --playername2--

Once everyone has chosen the same two people to be targeted I will confirm this and the choice will be locked it. Future targets will be ignored. If unanimity cannot be reached by the start of the next day, nobody will be targeted.

One of the two targeted players will be randomly chosen to be protected from nightkill that night. I will flip a virtual coin to determine which of the two that is.

The number of people in the hand may be affected by special powers, these are resolved after the hand of 5 has been drawn. How many people can be targeted and how many will be protected may be altered as well. See the list of roles for more details.

All players will be assigned a Dominion card, and this card is their role. All roles in this game are passive. The mafia in this game are all Dominon Knights, and the town are all villages. Dame Molly is both a village and a Knight, but she is town. All roles have a very thematic connection to what the card actually is in Dominion! Note: For the official wording of all of the powers, see the PMs in the third post.

The three mafia knights and their small passive abilities are:

Sir Michael: Each night while Sir Michael is alive, I will roll a 1dn, where n is the number of knights alive, including Dame Molly. If I roll a 1, 2 players will randomly be discarded from the hand. This happens before any other effects. Town will also be able to target only half as many people that night, if that is only 1, then that player has only a 1/2 chance of being protected from the nightkill.

Sir Vander: Right when Sir Vander dies, I randomly choose one still-living town player and post in the mafia QT what that player's role is (and who they are)

Dame Josephine: At the start of D4, if Dame Josephine is still alive I preform the above process of informing the mafia of a random town member's role twice.

There are 12 villages. 9 of them will be chosen randomly to be used, except village will be in the game no matter what. The mafia will be informed which 3 are not in the game when PMs are sent, town will not. Each town player will be assigned exactly one. The 12 villages are:

Village: Takes one more vote than normal to lynch. If targeted by the hand, they will not be chosen to be protected. Will be in the game no matter what. If they would be randomly chosen to be one of the 3 villages not in the game, I will reroll which 3 are not in the game.

Border Village: On N0, chooses a village to be. Will be that role, but only on even days and odd nights, other days will have nothing. Cannot choose to be Village.

Walled Village: When there is only one other town-aligned player besides the Walled Village alive, I tell the Walled Village the roles and alignments of all players still alive.

Fishing Village: If nightkilled, I do not report their death that night. The fishing village would then die at the end of the day. If Lynched, I post the flip, but the fishing village can continue to post and vote and be alive for all intents and purposes until the end of the next day when they would die.

Mining Village: When lynched, skip night and go directly to the next day, if the wandering minstrel is still alive or not in the game.

Squire: When lynched, repeat night twice in a row, if the wandering minstrel is still alive or not in the game.

Wandering Minstrel: Enables Mining Village and Squire.

Fortress: 1-shot bulletproof. When this is used, the Fortress is guaranteed to be put in the hand the next night, even if they are in the discard.

Madman: The night after the Madman dies, draw from the deck until there are 2n-2 people in the hand, where n is the number of people otherwise in the hand. Twice as many people may be targeted by the QT and twice as many people will be protected from nightkill that night.

Necropolis: Takes one fewer vote to lynch. Is guaranteed to be put in the hand on Night 1.

City: Once one mafia has died, whenever the City is targeted by the QT, they are protected. Once two mafia have died, 1-shot bulletproof.

Dame Molly: If a player randomly chosen by me of the players targeted by the neighborhood is mafia, both that mafia and Dame Molly die.

Details on how the neighborhood is changed:

If no effects, then 5 people, target 2, 1 protected.
If only Sir Michael, then 3 people, target 1, 0-1 protected.
If only Madman, then 8 people, target 4, 2 protected.
If Madman and Sir Michael, then 4 people (draw 5, discard 2, draw 1), target 2, 1 protected.

Role PMs:

Quote

Hello, --playername--, Welcome to Mafia Forty Seven: Village Mafia!

You are town-aligned. You win when all mafia-aligned players are dead and there is at least one town-aligned player still alive.

You are a village. Everybody likes a village, so you take one more vote than normal to be lynched. If you are targeted by the hand, you will not be chosen for protection.
Quote

Hello, --playername--, Welcome to Mafia Forty Seven: Village Mafia!

You are town-aligned. You win when all mafia-aligned players are dead and there is at least one town-aligned player still alive.

You are a walled village. When there is only one town-aligned member besides yourself still alive, instead of being put atop the deck, I will tell you the roles and alignments of all players still alive.
Quote

Hello, --playername--, Welcome to Mafia Forty Seven: Village Mafia!

You are town-aligned. You win when all mafia-aligned players are dead and there is at least one town-aligned player still alive.

You are a fishing village. Being a duration, you live on for an extra day. If you would die, instead of dying, nothing happens. At the end of the next day, you die like normal. If you are lynched then you flip as fishing village and the game proceeds to night, but you do not die. If you are nightkilled nothing happens. If you are nightkilled after dying-but-not-dying, you die. If you are lynched after dying-but-not-dying, you are lynched like normal. You may post and vote as normal until you actually die and are removed from the game. You also continue to count towards the number required to lynch. You can not be put into the neighborhood after dying-but-not-dying.

You are a border village. On entering the game (so, right now), you must choose a village costing less than six. We'll say that village costs six because it has the same effect as you. You may choose any role except for village or border village. On odd nights and even days, you have that role. On other days and nights you are just a border village. When rolecopped you return border village, but also return whatever role you chose if rolecopped on an odd night or even day. Feel free to ask specific questions about how your role works with the various roles available for you to choose. Nights are counted separately from days. If there are two or zero night phases in between day phases instead of the normal one at some point, all nights that occur count, and ones that don't occur don't count. e.g., If there are two nights between days two and three, then the night after day three would be night four instead of the normal night three.

Hello, --playername--, Welcome to Mafia Forty Seven: Village Mafia!

You are a mining village. Being a card with a bonus when you leave the game, when you are lynched the night is skipped and the game proceeds immediately to the next day. You are enabled by the wandering minstrel. This effect only happens if the wandering minstrel is still alive or not in the game.
Quote

Hello, --playername--, Welcome to Mafia Forty Seven: Village Mafia!

You are town-aligned. You win when all mafia-aligned players are dead and there is at least one town-aligned player still alive.

You are a wandering minstrel. Being one of the elite engine enablers, you enable two roles, mining village and squire. If you are still alive when one of these players is lynched, their effect will take place. This effect would take place if you were not in the game from the start as well.
Quote

Hello, --playername--, Welcome to Mafia Forty Seven: Village Mafia!

You are town-aligned. You win when all mafia-aligned players are dead and there is at least one town-aligned player still alive.

You are a squire. When you are trashed, you gain an attack card. The attack card in this kingdom is knight. So, when you are lynched, two nights take place before the next day instead of one.

You are a madman. When you die, you return to the madman supply pile, and also increase handsize. The night after you die, the number of people in the hand is increased. If it was 5 people, it becomes 8 people. If it was 3 people, it becomes 4 people. The power of the hand is also increased. If they could target 2 people, they can target 4 people instead, and two of those will be randomly chosen. If they could target 1 person, they can target 2 people instead, and one of those will be chosen. Everybody will be informed of this. This effect takes place after the Sir Michael effect.
Quote

Hello, --playername--, Welcome to Mafia Forty Seven: Village Mafia!

You are town-aligned. You win when all mafia-aligned players are dead and there is at least one town-aligned player still alive.

You are a city. Each time a supply pile empties or a mafia dies, your power increases. Once one mafia has died, if you are targeted by the hand, you are guaranteed to be chosen for protection. Once two mafia have died, you are 1-shot bulletproof in addition to your first power.
Quote

Hello, --playername--, Welcome to Mafia Forty Seven: Village Mafia!

You are town-aligned. You win when all mafia-aligned players are dead and there is at least one town-aligned player still alive.

You are dame molly. You are a knight, which gives you the potential to trash other knights along with yourself. You also count as a knight for Sir Michael's power. When a mafia-aligned player is chosen for protection of those targeted by the neighborhood, both you and that player will die.
Quote

Hello, --playername--, Welcome to Mafia Forty Seven: Village Mafia!

You are town-aligned. You win when all mafia-aligned players are dead and there is at least one town-aligned player still alive.

You are a necropolis. The worst of the villages, you are easily disposed of. At least get a chance to be in hand before all of the other villages. You take one fewer vote than normal to be lynched. You are also guaranteed to be drawn into the hand on the first night of the game, if you are still alive.
Quote

Hello, --playername--, Welcome to Mafia Forty Seven: Village Mafia!

You are town-aligned. You win when all mafia-aligned players are dead and there is at least one town-aligned player still alive.

You are a fortress. When you're trashed, not only do you avoid the trash pile, you jump into the hand. You are 1-shot bulletproof. When you are nightkilled and use up your 1-shot bulletproof, you are guaranteed to be in the hand in the next night, if you are still alive. This effect will happen even if you were in the discard pile.

Hello, --playername--, Welcome to Mafia Forty Seven: Village Mafia!

You are mafia-aligned. You win when all town-aligned players are dead and at least one mafia-aligned player is still alive, or nothing can prevent this from happening.

You and your partners, --playername-- and --playername--, may talk to each other and submit your factional kill at night here: --QT link--

You are Sir Michael. I play a knight each turn, and if you are played, the hand discards down to three. Each night while you are alive, I will roll a virtual die with sides equal to the number of knights still alive, including dame molly. If I roll a 1, then I will choose two random players from the hand to the discard pile. The hand will only be able to target 1 player that night, and that player will have only a 1 in 2 chance of being protected. This effect takes place before the madman effect.

You are Sir Vander. When you are trashed, you get a gold. But what is a gold? A gold is certainly neither a village nor a knight. Instead, when you die, I will post the role of a random town-aligned player still alive in the mafia QT.

Sure thing

What's the setup?
Good question! It will be posted soon, I am still working out a couple kinks. It is entirely open. The basic premise is that everyone has a passive ability of some sort. The basic flavor premise is that the town-aligned players are villages, and the mafia are knights (In Dominion).

Most of the setup information has been added, for those who wish to know what they are signing up for before they sign up. Please PM me anything you have to say about the setup.

/in for as long as the forty seven stays.
I actually quite like spelling it out, better than Roman Numerals even. It'll stay that way.

Seems cool, but I won't /in until the thread title is "Mafia 47". I changed mine from the roman numeral for the sake of consistency, and writing the numbers out is much, much worse than roman numerals.

Sorry, not going to happen. Ichimaru Gin and Jimmmmm seem to feel otherwise, so it's clear this isn't unanimous. And most importantly, I'm the mod, and I prefer it this way. Feel free to eat your words and /in if you want though.
